    1. The … “cannabis use prevalence map” … says it all for me.

Virtually NO use in China and Central Africa. Which seems to explain why the Chinese/Asians would dominate the halls of Harvard, if not for affirmative-action exclusionary policies. And why every Central African immigrant businessman I have ever worked-with are the most professional and competent people I ever encounter. Or … that’s just a “coincidence”

        1. Asians and Europeans smoke wayyyyyy more than we do. Not so kewl anymore … since the EU opened their borders to … “refugees”

  1. Whatever. For sure, government will screw it up anyways. And let’s not forget TruDOPE will magically protect kids from pot………..

    1. I agree the government will screw it up. I don’t think it was ever the government’s job to play nanny.

    2. Sure, just like the legalization of alcohol with accompanying age restrictions protects kids from drinking.

      1. And lets not blame the government for kids eating Tide pods or huffing gasoline or that making those things illegal will somehow protect the kiddies, …because I’m guessing the answer is nope.

  2. Of course he did. This was the Communist Party of the Soviet Union’s strategy for staying in power.

Nothing was cheap and plentiful in the Soviet Union but the rotgut vodka that for most Russians was the only way to escape the misery of communism.

Trudeau’s plan is for Canadians to be too stoned to resist—or even care much—as the Chinese foreclose on the dominion.

  3. It will be great sport to watch the “First Nations” get into the production and sale of pot on the reserves. Another “unintended consequence” that Liberals and leftists in general just can’t seem to visualize.

    1. I doubt they’ll be much involved in the production. They may sell cigarettes, but they sure don’t grow tobacco.

      1. But they can sell it tax free, like smokes. They will take advantage, it’s easy money and they already have the criminal connections

        1. Yes, they will sell it tax free. No, they won’t produce it.
It’s like here in Alberta ranchers raise the best beef in the world. What do Indians raise on the Indian reserves? Not cattle.
No, they only raise Indian ponies and let the grazing land out to non-Indian ranchers.

    2. Joey, you that ignorant of facts, or just that stupid. I know of at least 3 grow opps in and around here. Never mind the legal grow opp I helped shut down a year ago, as the owner was selling his property. The underground market is established and thriving, not much will change.

As to the idiots in here who wank off about kids, they, kids all ready have access. Jeezus you bible thumpers live sheltered lives, git auta the church basement broom closet once in a while.

      1. It wasn’t the “bible thumpers” who rhapsodized about how legalizing mj would protect the kiddies; it was JT. Conservative Christians are a great deal more realistic about the world as it is than the Lieberals are.

And Calgary city council managed to ensure that only two retail shops were approved prior to legalization. Woe betide any other businesses who have the misfortune to be in the same mall as either shop; their customers will have NO chance of gaining access today and perhaps for several days or even weeks more.

  4. Bet Turdeau, Butts, and Telford, are smokin up a storm. Hey government might improve if the entire Liberal cabinet was perpetually stoned!

  5. The best thing about the Liberal Party getting into the weed business, otherwise known as “legalization”, is the complete lack of debate and consultations with the populace. Just another dictatorial impulse by the Liberals shoved down everyones throats without consent from the governed and cheered on by a corrupt docile Media… the Liberal way… its a mystery why anyone would want the dictatorial one party state of Trudopia to continue. Well at least some Liberals will get even richer. Can’t really blame Liberals for their complete and utter contempt of the Trudopian citizen.

  6. We are eye witnesses to the economic and moral collapse of a nation. Trudeau didn’t start this collapse but is speeding the degeneration.

  7. Ok, people can flame me for saying this. I say this as a person who smoked weed (for free) at parties in the late 1960s, but then stopped for good. Trudeau got elected partly on his promise to legalize marijuana. The public in general wants it legalized. Yes there will be a list of problems off having it legalized. But there are a list of problems with alcohol, tobacco and contact hockey.

Donald Trump, as things stand now, virtually has zero chance of being reelected two years from now. The U.S. border agency, under Republican directions, has taken a hard line on people associated with marijuana, entering through the Canada/US border. If Trump really wants to be reelected two years from now, he should follow Trudeau’s lead and legalize marijuana in the US. Trump when he takes decisive action is a great president. But when he makes stupid mouthy comments, all he does is drive down his approval ratings and make the Republican party look bad. Here he should take decisive action.

    1. “Trump has virtually no chance of being re-elected in 2020”.

Did you hear that on CBC, CNN?

      1. No, me. My view is that many people, across the political spectrum, including me, are suffering from Trump fatigue. We all strongly supported the Kavanaugh nomination, since having him on the SCOUS represents constructive change. But yesterday he called the moronic Stormy Daniels “horseface”. This is the type of thing that drives his voting support way down. There is no need for this – the namecalling is pointless and useless. All it does is to drive the average, independent voter away. He has to learn to stop babbling and to shut up. There still is a lot of work to be done, in a second term. But with Trump babbling constantly there is not going to be a second term.

        1. So, you’re using your feelings as a metric for voter support?!

Look at Trump’s 2020 fundraising to date, and oh yeah, there’s also the booming American economy. His base could care less that he calls people names – they care about JOBS.

          1. ” there’s also the booming American economy.”

And a massive fiscal deficit. Despite the ‘free stuff’ and booming economy, Turmp’s numbers are very bad and the GOP is facing slaughter in weeks. When the economy inevitably has a cycle, then it gets real ugly.

          2. I used to cringe a little when Trump called people outlandish names … until all of his “outrageous” charges proved to be true … one by one. Now, I actually welcome his swift, targeted, zingers … right to the heart of the matter. Without the NYT’s wordsmithery and FAKE interpretations. Trump’s words completely neutralize the opposition’s filters of FAKERY.

Keep it up, President Trump!! Call things by their TRUE names!!

        2. Admit it, President Trump made Pocahontas a fraud in the eyes of the electorate, by his “name-calling”. It’s why she went out and got the DNA test, which diminished her even further, by showing everyone how thin skinned she is, and ultimately making a fool out of herself by confirming that she is of overwhelmingly white ancestry.

So-called name-calling is being criticized not because it’s rude, but because it reveals in the political arena who these people really are. We mustn’t have that, must we, when the objects of derision are Democrats
who are leading us to a golden progressive future?

So, are you saying it’s better to be under the heel of these fascists than it is to be rude?

    2. “Yes there will be a list of problems off having it legalized. ”

So yesterday, on the evening news, our MSM decided that now was the appropriate time to run the story about the list of problems that Colorado encountered after legalizing marijuana a few years ago: big increases in hospital emergency admissions, child poisonings, and mental health cases.

My view is pretty simple: smoke your *&^%$#g brains out, but I don’t want you driving towards me or working beside me when you’re stoned.

    3. david, I’m with you as to the legalizing weed. But the weed/border thing precedes Trump by many years. As to Trump re-election, you decrie exactly what got him elected.

      1. Sorry but this is about lot more than allowing people to become intoxicated.

It is another example of how the conservatives have let an issue go that could be used against Trudles. If they had opposed this it would be very well received in a lot of ridings where they are marginally behind the Libs, while costing them nothing in those ridings that are Liberal fever swamps, and which will never vote conservative based on a multitude of issues other than this one. The conservatives are gutless and can’t bear to have anyone say they oppose an issue that has majority support nationwide, even though there are many ridings where such a stand would yield them a lot of support. And none of this will change until Sche(m)er is gone.

        1. I would expect that the CPC runs on: in 2019 we will put the dope rules back to where they were in 2017.
Or is it that Scheer and company will run on just being better administrators of the narcotics business?

        2. ” If they had opposed this it would be very well received in a lot of ridings where they are marginally behind the Libs, while costing them nothing in those ridings that are Liberal fever swamps, ”

Bahahahaha the CPC LOST the 2015 election in part because of their stupid MJ stance. It pushed the youth to the Liberals, and you’d replicate that mistake. Cripes you people are dumb.

We win, you lose. Legal MJ is here to stay forever and we’re only just getting started…

    4. Trump has ZERO Chance of being re-elected…?? Seems to me you passed up a joint in favour of some Lepages….

  8. The PM who legalised dope – How appropriate that this is how Trudeau will be remembered in history.

  9. I am constantly amused by the silliness surrounding the issue.

My favourite dopey (ha ha!) line is : “we have to keep it out of the hands of kids”. It seems to have entirely escaped those who utter such nonsense that since pot was illegal for minors before today and will continue to be illegal for minors after today, nothing much has changed for underaged users (though it’ll probably be even easier now for the kiddies to get the stuff).*

Of course, pricing will be all important and offers the greatest potential for governments to screw up on this one. If the legal product is overpriced and overtaxed (the temptation to squeeze more and more revenues out of it is obvious), even the most addlepated potheads are going to realize governments have screwed them. Then they’ll find, ahem, “other suppliers”. Ha ha!

    * I can already see a brisk trade in simply selling pot on to minors.

    1. What makes me laugh about that is that here in Ontario they want to put the LCBO in charge of it. You know, as if they do a great job of keeping booze away from minors.

    2. JJM, I like the whining and crying buy uninformed tools in here. Alcohol and prescription drugs are the biggest problems in Canada and the USA.

    3. There will ALLWAYS be alternative sources….and if ya know what your doing, 4 Plants can produce some serious pot….and how many that grow their own will “limit” themselves to just 4..??

LMAO at anyone thinking grow ops are a thing of the past. With good cheap LED lighting that’s now available + Hydroponics…?? Bamn.!! I was doing this in the Early 80’s before “grow-op” was even a term. Albeit with 1000W Metal Halide/Sodium lamps…electricity costs were up there…but the “smoke” was awesome and more than compensated for a $250 electrical bill. Grew it for 3 years – sold it while driving a cab on the weekends – stuffed in the front bench seat, (no “heat” at the house), and it put me through college.

Yea it can be done and a hell of lot cheaper these days to produce a hell of a lot stronger THC content than what we had, (and then one day I acquired some indica seeds……).

Cheers and dont bogart that joint my friends…

  10. I don’t know about you, but I’m investing in snack foods …. big time.

Moderate use of marijuana is pretty harmless. Unfortunately there will be those who dive deep.

    La cucaracha, la cucaracha
    Yah no puede caminar
porque no tiene, porque le falta
    marijuana que fumar.

  11. “Jeezus you bible thumpers live sheltered lives, git auta the church basement broom closet once in a while”
So when the Canadian Medical Association voices concerns about normalizing a product that has been shown to have adverse affects on brain development in juveniles, they are just like a bunch of ‘bible thumpers’. Interesting.

    1. It seems everyone who does not follow a certain thought line is allegedly a “bible thumper”, and deserves to be denigrated.

    2. Thank you. Dope ruined my middle son’s brain. And that’s PERMANENT!!! One man’s medicine, is another man’s poison … in this ridiculous advocacy for DOPe

  12. Frankly don’t care, cause I don’t want to have it.
Heard a good point about the recreational aspect of this.
Because the substance does alter the mind, those that use it for recreational purposes want to alter their perception of the world.
    For whatever reason.
Marijuana was already legal for medical use, needed to treat a condition as opposed to want to alter perception.
The operative here that would determine the legitimate course of action is what is the need?
Who needs to have their perception altered so they can ignore reality?
My bet is the answer to that question is the same reason we have the CBC, the Health Care Act, those Human Rights Tribunals, the official language’s act, and quite possibly the liberal legacy protection act AKA the charter.
So please, if you must partake of this newly invented “right”, knock yourself out, but don’t p*** on my shoes and tell me its raining.

    1. I agree. Neither my wife nor I have ever used the stuff and do not plan to in the future. The sad part of this exercise is that this will add to the overall gradual moral decline of our society. A population high on drugs such as alcohol and mind altering substances is not a productive society.

      1. “The sad part of this exercise is that this will add to the overall gradual moral decline of our society.

That’s a lie. There’s no evidence in support of this whatsoever.

  13. 3 years ago I begged my doc to allow me to try medical marijuana for my crippling arthritis. Got a wonderful doc who had been an Anesthesiologist in Brazil. Vaped and tried 3 different prescriptions over 4 months. It worked for about 2 weeks and then nada, niente zip.

This doc explained that the active ingredients in marijuana took a different neural pathway in the brain than the opiates as a painkiller. My guess is that almost NOBODY out there knows this. He only told me this when he saw I didn’t blame him for the failure. It’s not an exact science. My experience will never be used in a study because there’s too much money to be made.

The Government is not ‘protecting’ anyone. It’s essentially unrestricted drug use. There will be consequences. My opinion is that it is not a net economic benefit for Canada. I’d like it if it was fun for me.

    1. you got it TO, your individual experience will be ignored, not analyzed to narrow down why it didnt work for you, as part of a comprehensive approach to find those who it does help.

its politics, NOT medicine, politics, NOT law, politics, NOT business opportunity.
politics politics politics up the wazzo.

“they all do it”. harper the bully merely chose an alternate route based on POLITICS, not medicine, law, social science, etc up the wazoo.

  14. This grand social experiment will end in chaos. Every thing else the government has endorsed has. Why should this be any different?

    1. It’s not a ‘social experiment’ it’s freedom. Prohibition was the experiment, and it resulted in the very evils you attach to its repeal.

  15. The National Post had a brief article indicating that there is not actually that much tax revenue to be got from marijuana sales — at least in the first years. They did not explain why — maybe start-up costs, etc. This same piece indicated that users might have a harder time getting ahold of it than when it was illegal — although it was illegal, there were not many restrictions for those interested in getting their hands on pot. Another item regarding a poll said that many physicians are opposed. Well, the physicians (via the CMA) had an opportunity under the Harper government to take a stand on the heath dangers of marijuana. They refused to do so. Too late now to start warning people. Hope they (and others) enjoy their pot as there will likely be a pretty big social and health cost. Canada may claim to be a leader in this realm, but really, we are the guinea pigs.

  16. It’s too bad nobody listened to Kellie Leitch.

As a MP and paediatrician she warned parliament of the danger of marijuana on the developing mind. It’s use should not take place until about age 25.

But hey what would she know? The country is led by a drug addled fool who embraced the reefer lifestyle at a young age. He turned out ok……

8 pages of bridges, hydrants, bikes, cars…..WTF?

  17. NR – your right – time to lighten up a bit. Ha

Hope my bank does’nt go full CAPTCHA…….

    1. Exactly. It was already quasi decriminalized, with only the incredibly stupid getting into any legal trouble over it but HEY let’s get the government involved. That ought to improve the situation. Okay, maybe there were a couple of people who were dying to try it but hesitated because of the law but for most of the idiots who voted Liberal in order to get this result … you’ll get more taxes and you also got the idiot in charge. Nicely done.

  18. What’s going to stop all illegal drugs from now being legal?

‘Yeah I’ll take a some blow and maybe a little horse with that oz of bud’…..

    It’s gonna happen.

  19. The number of politicians investing in MJ reaks of corruption. Anyone want to bet it will cost fewer police man hours to suppress their competition than it did to enforce the pot laws?

  20. Canadians need to realize that unless someone is incredibly stupid or selling out of the back of their van beside a school, this stuff has been pretty much legal for many years. Are they telling me that all the people who didn’t know that are going to suddenly run out and become pot heads? I guess we’ll see but I highly doubt that this is really much of an actual change. As for me, the stuff just makes me cough. I like beer. It makes me a jolly good fellow.

  21. A great day for freedom. May this be but the first step to the legalization of all drugs and private healthcare for that matter.
