Morneau isn’t even answering the question he was asked. He keeps saying the US can pull out in six months, six months.
…Unless he is saying that he will ignore the trade agreement, and sign a new trade agreement with China without telling the US? Thereby Giving the US the two options of either rolling over and accepting the breach of the agreement, or pulling out of the agreement with Canada.

We have to give notice of a China deal, or as I read it, a deal with anyone else, that’s all.
The Americans have no remedy except terminating the new Canada-US deal on six months notice. They cannot order us to change any new Canada-China deal. They had the same 6 months termination notice right before. They could terminate for any reason, from a China deal to the fact that Morneau and Trudeau are both despicable swine.
So no real changes. 6 months notice of termination then and now.
I guess there is one difference.
If we do a deal with China, or anyone, that stabs the USA in the back, we have to tell the USA right when they got stabbed.

Actually what Morneau said about bussiness practices is correct, if you are trucking for Coke, you better make sure there okay with you trucking for Pepsi. Coke can get another trucker. We need a trade agreement with the US more than they need one with us.
The problem was China using Canada as a back door to dump cheap steel on the US market. Trump now has a mechanism whereby we can go ahead and have a trade deal with China if we also don’t mind tariffs on our auto manufacturing.

Protecting the US market is more important to Trump than having a trade agreement with Canada.
Can we say with any credibility at all that we could sacrifice access to the US market so we could have a trade deal with China?

That “little in common” part is important because not one of these provinces is actively pursuing anything in common to promote a “country”. I have more in common with North Dakota, or Montana, or even Alaska than I do with say BC, somewhat more in common with Saskatchewan & Manitoba. I have nothing in common with anywhere east of the Manitoba border & Ontario. Quebec ….foreign country, Maritimes….who?
Ontario; my banking, media, news, weather, rail, air, telecommunications, my acceptable political thinking, social construct, legal are run from a part of this collection of properties called Provinces from a place located 3300 km east of me, or 2 time zones. Even in Ontario the only thing that counts is an area close to the US border bounded to the east with Frogland/Ottawa River, to the west lake Huron & a line drawn east-west of Parry Sound to the Frogland border…the Ottawa River. Outside of those boundaries nothing else matters, especially to those living within those bounds. We could drop off the face of the earth tomorrow & nobody in the area described would care. Even folks in the area described focus more on points south than anywhere else. They seem to be led by a cabal of self important twats, controlled by another bunch of self important twats who just got booted from “governing” the USA.
