  1. The Altering of the Deal

    https://www.globalresearch.ca/mexico-us-canada-nafta-trade-agreement-reached-a-phony-trade-war/5655734

    Excerpt;

…the terms of both the Mexican and Canadian trade deals will show hardly any change.

As with So. Korea, an early look at the Mexico-US deal late last week showed token changes on autos and steel. No tariffs, just phony quotas on car imports to US. (Trump has recently also quietly exempted other big steel importers to the US (Brazil, etc. from the 25% tariffs he announced last March). Mexico deal details will show few if any tariffs, some quotas well above current actual levels so they have no effect, and the US-Trump backing off the threat to change how disputes are resolved over trade issues. Trump essentially agreeing to the Mexico (and Canada) positions that no changes should be made to the past process.

Mexico has apparently not agreed to slow imports of autos and steel to the US. Just to raise North American auto parts content to 75% from 62.5%, and to raise Mexican auto workers wages to $16/hr. (but only on 40% of Mexican auto workers)!

Mexico is also bragging of a ‘side deal’ with US also just signed, outside NAFTA, in which current tariffs get locked in for years to come.

In other words, the US-Mexico agreement is A PHONY TRADE DEAL–just like So. Korea! (Canada will now fall into the same deal. All the talk about separate agreements for Mexico and Canada has collapsed. It has always been just a smokescreen by Trump).

    Canada-US Deal Early Look

Late in the day news for Sunday, Sept. 30, is that US and Canada just agreed to a trade deal, with Canada remaining with Mexico in NAFTA. No change in the NAFTA dispute settlement mechanism.Canada agrees to let US diary farmers access a whopping 3.5% of its market (offset by Canadian price subsidies to them for the 3.5%).

On Autos, Canada agrees to not export more than 2.6 million cars to the US. But Canada only importing 2 million now, so it raise imports another 600,000. Moreover, the 2.6m quota takes effect only if US imposes 25% auto tariffs on Canada and globally as well in the future–which it will never do. So no tariffs on autos or steel from Canada. ANd the auto quotas are fictitious.

    According to Reuters news service,

“The quota (2.6m) would allow for significant growth in tariff-free automotive exports from Canada above current production levels of about 2 million units”.

And apparently no change in Canada steel and aluminum imports to the US:

“the deal failed to resolve US tariffs on Canada’s steel and aluminum exports, the Canadian Sources said”.

What that means is that Canada keeps importing steel and aluminum to US as before.

Deals show that Trump is desperate to sign something before the November elections, as a show of his ‘economic nationalism’ and ‘America First’ themes. So now So. Korea, Mexico and Canada have agreed to softball deals with the US to changes in their free trade agreements with the US. (Meanwhile Trump backs off threats to Europe and quietly exempts other economies like Brazil from his previously announced steel and aluminum tariffs last March).

    1. First as for the source, Global Research is LEFT as defined by anti-west and anti-western engagements in Mid-east and pro Russia and anti-globalist capitalist.

That’s not the same LEFT as cultural Marxists of the left who joined ranks with the Neo-Cons & who voted Clinton and who support the big bad Putin narrative and post national states c/w open borders. The Marxist left are OK with Clinton/Obama mid-east interventions. They are OK with globalists to advance their ideology.

Other than for the cultural aspects, the MOAR WAR patriots and the new left cultural marxists find themselves on the same team. These patriots will call Global Research a bunch of conspiracy nut bars for writing stories like the CIA created ISIS. But then wikileaks must be a bunch of conspiracy nutbars also.

      https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-10-02/wikileaks-weaken-iran-us-undermined-democratic-elements-syrian-opposition-empower
(There are many more hard-hitting citations out there)

Yes there is a lot of cognitive dissonance going around partly because populists and nationalists of the right don’t fit the mold of the traditional MOAR WAR patriots.

Trump inherited this mid-east mess and by all inductions he is trying to extract the USA from the quagmire vs Clinton who would have got the USA into a hot war with Russia.

As for the USMCA, who pushed for the increased hourly wages and increased NA content?
How many new NA jobs does increasing NA content to 75% represent?
What is the effect of raising the NA content on foreign investment in the USA vs. Canada?
What of the side letters per the USMCA that deal with the steel and aluminum tariffs?
Per above, people smarter than I have figured this is a way better deal for the USA than what they had.

My understanding is that Canada dragged its feet cuz Canadian companies operating in Mexico import China parts & do sub -assembly in Canada and then truck to Mexico for final assembly. Canada’s preference was to give jobs to China vs. USA or Mexico.

        1. ” Old media just doesn’t get out enough!”

Apparently I don’t either as reading the comments to the NY Times article were an eye opener (though somewhat ironic in that the NY Times is an American paper).

By eye opener, I did not realize the degree of hate that my fellow Canadians had for the U.S.

        2. Polemic: A polemic is contentious rhetoric that is intended to support a specific position by aggressive claims and undermining of the opposing position.

A tactic is to cherry-pick some alternate facts e.g. quote some expert who supports the argument being advanced while ignoring any counter facts.

NYT is anti-Trump. You get a one-side account a la CBC. Levant & Lilley have presented the other side of the story to give a complete picture, that Trudeau went out of his way to take repeated pokes at Trump.

The anti-American sentiment is cuz Canadians are being fed crap 24/7 about Trump and Trump supporters by the state owned broadcasting corporation.

      1. Blah blah blah you can’t actually fisk anything in Strad’s post.

“who pushed for the increased hourly wages and increased NA content?
How many new NA jobs does increasing NA content to 75% represent?
What is the effect of raising the NA content on foreign investment in the USA vs. Canada?
What of the side letters per the USMCA that deal with the steel and aluminum tariffs?”

        These are all terrible.

    2. Strad, just STOP. Stop going to these fringe sites and presenting their fantasies as if they were real. You’re just making yourself look like a fool.

  2. Am I the only one who sees the CAQ victory in Quebec as being under-reported? I learned of it yesterday from a MacLeans link on Instapundit. Okay we got snow in Calgary but nothing on my local news at all. A weirdly odd silence when compared to the sky-is-falling coverage about Ontario not too long ago.

Maybe the news is still stuck somewhere on the #1 with my ill-timed snowblower order.

    1. The elitist media and old sold out political parties well they don’t want Canadians thinking they can have their way with Mad Max and the PeopleaPC and take back their country from the Globalist approved left parties of Liberals CPC NDP Greens…

    2. It’s easy to make too much of it. Legault is a péquiste who figured out that nobody cares about sovereignty any more. The bitter-ender sovereigntists, communists and anti-Semites of French Montreal have switched to the solidaires. The PQ isn’t gone—the PQ left the PQ.

Get back to me when Legault allows Quebec businesses to advertise in English (and insist on an English-speaking workplace) and gets serious about expelling Quebec’s Muslims and cracking down on harassment of Montreal Jews. A ban on teachers wearing religious symbols (which you can rest assured will only be enforced against Protestants and Jews) isn’t going to cut it.

    3. They should have stuck with Couillard. Best government Quebec has had in decades. Righted their fiscal ship. Legault wants unfunded tax breaks, dirigisme, free childcare, and of course immigrant bashing.

  3. When Stampede Wrestling, hosted by Ed Whalen, was on TV many years ago, one of the wrestlers who was featured from time to time was Tor Kamata. Naturally, he was one of the bad guys.

It wasn’t until I learned a bit about the Spanish Inquisition that I was able to make the connection.

    1. Hey! How well I remember that show and Ed Whalen,my favorite “rasslin'” show of all time.

      https://www.nationalnewswatch.com/2018/10/04/u-s-not-invited-to-canadas-save-the-wto-summit-of-13-like-minded-countries-2/#.W7Xnp3tKiUk

In a typical move by a liberal, the USA,world’s largest trader, won’t be invited to the WTO conference because “we only invited like minded people”.

I’m starting a rumor: at the election debates next year, only the Liberals,NDP, and Greens will be invited to the debate as they only want like minded people.

      Un-bloody-believable.

      1. Hey! How well I remember that show and Ed Whalen,my favorite “rasslin’” show of all time.

While I was in high school, I watched that show faithfully when it was shown on the TV station we received in town. I even went to watch it live when the tour group came to our part of B. C. They were certainly much more fun than what passes for professional wrestlers nowadays.

A few years ago, the PBS station we get here in Alberta (KSPS in Spokane) presented a documentary about Calgary and one of the people interviewed was–you guessed it!–Ed Whalen.

He mentioned that he mentioned the well-known closing line–“In the mean time, in between time, it’s Stampede Wrestling” (or something like that)–for the first time on one edition, but didn’t the next. Apparently, viewers wrote in wondering what happened and it was due to that that his closing phrase at the end of each show became a fixture.

    1. Diane Fein-with-having-commie-agents-on-her-staff-stein is about as crooked as HRC.

    2. Dianne Fartstain wanted a big hullabaloo as close to the election as possible. Her motive was delay not justice.

  4. How has someone not re-written the Spanish Inquisition sketch with the Dem’s playing the inquisitors.

  5. Funny how it’s taught as the “Spanish” Inquisition, as opposed to the Catholic Inquisition.

Odd how we’re also not taught about the Catholic crusades, and certainly not the Catholic crusades against Christians, such as their genocide against the Albigenses and the Waldenses.

Nor about the Catholic Ustase in the Balkans.

    Huh…

Nor about the Catholic brutality in the New World.

Instead, we’re taught that it was “the Christians” who performed these evils, when they were as much the victim if not more so than anyone else.

    1. How large of a room would it take to hold the sum of what we do not know? Cherry pick away, but make sure to you know of what you are speaking. Knowledge without context is a kite trying to fly in a cave.

      1. I have confidence that I know a reasonable amount of what I wrote about. More than the average man on the street.

Why do you believe cherry-picking is going on? I wrote what I wrote due to the caption regarding the video.

      2. “…make sure to you know of what you are speaking.”

C’mon, give him a break. If he knew what he were speaking of, he’d never post the nonsense he does.

        1. Ok JJM. I’d like to give you the opportunity to not be a hypocrite and do the things you accuse others of doing.

What nonsense do I post? Why do you believe it to be in error?

What value are you adding to the conversation by slamming me?

          1. Cloud, there are myriads of books written by non-Nazis that prove that the Holocaust never happened…

Simply because a man claiming to be a protestant wrote a book beyond his educational expertise (as a sociologist) replete with errors and mistruths doesn’t change the facts.

Question for you, had the book been written by a Jesuit or coadjutor, would that fact have been advertised? Would you have been able to “research” the author’s history by stealthily Googling Wikipedia?

            C’mon.

      1. Exactly. The Catholic Church committed the most atrocious acts for centuries against all comers.

But now that their members dominate our centers of learning and write the curriculum for schools and universities, both Catholic and supposedly public, those topics are not to be discussed again.

        1. “The Catholic Church committed the most atrocious acts for centuries against all comers.”

Not the Nazis? Something like 17 million killed in the Holocaust, all up. And let’s not forget starting WWII and its resultant 50 to 85 million casualties.

          Not communism?

Stalin did in some 20 million people during his reign (I exclude here WWII casualties).

Not Mao’s Great Leap Forward? Conservative estimate 40 million.

Hey, what about the plucky Khmer Rouge really swinging above their weight? Two million!

But no, you go on cranking away about that bee in your bonnet you call the Catholic Church.

          1. You and I are taught that Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot were all evil men. We on “the right” would likely go further and attribute their evils to the politics of “the left”.

That said, who writes history? Who teaches it? Do they have a bias?

Hitler was the Fuhrer. Himmler was the Reichsfuhrer. Who reported to who? Did you know that Himmler was a Jesuit priest? Might that change your mind on what happened?

Many people know about Stalin. Most people don’t know that that wasn’t his name. His birth name was Ioseb Besarionis dze Jughashvili. He later changed his name to “Stalin”, meaning “man of steel”. He was trained as a Jesuit priest at the supposedly Orthodox seminary in Tiflis, Georgia.

You will find similar Jesuit breadcrumbs behind Mao, Pol Pot, Castro, Che, Idi Amin, and on and on.

          2. JJM, the choice is yours as to whether or not you wish to research further, or instead apply cognitive dissonance and cling still tighter to the Jesuit “truths” you’ve been indoctrinated with.

        2. “In 1923–24, Himmler, while searching for a world view, came to abandon Catholicism and focused on the occult and in antisemitism. Germanic mythology, reinforced by occult ideas, became a religion for him.”

          Wikipedia, a known Catholic website…..

          1. Wikipedia is a “user-edited” website. Of course, views that aren’t in line with university teachings are deleted.

Read about the Jesuits. Infiltration of government, media, education, astronomy (for weird reasons) and prominent public positions is the first thing they do. Many pretend to be atheists, Baptists, Muslims, etc. The Jesuits who operated covertly (the vast majority of them) must not be known to be Jesuits. So at some point they have to “abandon Catholicism” or some such smokescreen, and this lie must become public knowledge.

Jesuits are masters of theatre. For example, a televised debate might happen between two sides on a controversial issue, when in reality the two are on the same side. This is known as the Hegelian dialectic. One side will propose a radical, unpopular idea. The opposing side will stand against it, but only somewhat. Therefore the middle ground becomes reluctantly palatable. In this way, the people are dragged where they don’t want to go.

            Sound familiar?

The Liberals stand for one thing. The Conservatives another. Yet regardless who wins, the results are the same.

In the US it’s the Democrats and the Republicans. Two sides of the same coin. Both controlled by the same people.

    1. Yep, saw that one coming. Now every other Canadian should block it at every opportunity, and watch our leaders bring in the military and the cops.

      1. Actually let them have it and like most things given for free will have about one year or less till an environmental disaster takes place and they can be responsible for clean up.

    2. Trudeau should “gift” all of Western Canada to the First Nations, thus eliminating any opposition to the Liberals as their strongholds in Ontario,Quebec, and the Welfare/Maritimes would guarantee a LPC federal government until heaven froze over.

The federal government could then run the FN Territory through a management contract with Power Corp., and Irving Oil and essentially do whatever they want, with the FN Chiefs getting their piece of the action, as always..

      1. Didn’t the First Nations/Indigenous/ Natives/Indians recently claim most of Ottawa as traditional territory? Maybe we should see to it that they get that first. Couldn’t screw it up any worse.

  6. US Senate has unanimously passed S Res 610 for the declassification and release of thousands of pages and documents relating to Saudi Arabia and terror attacks of 9/11.

    Published on Sep 26, 2018
All documentation concerning the 9/11 attacks should be released, completely unredacted.

    1. Hopefully will now find out who was responsible (AltheWeed?) and who was incompetent (FBI) and who covered up (Mueller).

    1. I remain VERY skeptical of this claim. It is not credible for technical reasons. It does make great anti-Chinese propaganda.

  7. I have never been a supporter of Vancouver’s ‘safe injection sites’. Apart from the fact there is NO SUCH THING as a ‘safe’ illegal drug injection, IMO they are simply enabling and even encouraging hard-core drug use among society’s losers.

But even that wasn’t enough for the politically correct/social justice crowd. Now, you too can become a paid, professional drug user…

Pay drug users for expertise, insight to deal with overdose crisis: B.C. report

    https://nationalpost.com/pmn/news-pmn/canada-news-pmn/involve-indigenous-drug-users-in-finding-solutions-to-b-c-s-od-crisis-report

“VANCOUVER — Drug users are often the first responders to an overdose and should be paid fairly for their contributions to research, service delivery and overdose prevention activities, says a report.
Karen Ward, a longtime cocaine user who attended the gathering in June, was consulted for the centre’s report and said drug users’ knowledge has been vastly undervalued.
She said it’s often challenging to hire people who continue to use drugs because they sometimes fail to show up for their shifts.
Drug users may have to form associations or unions…”

I originally read this story yesterday and I still don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

    1. Because these overdose delay programs have a feature their advocates either ignore or can’t get their head around, the eventual outcome is that the user will eventually have an overdose.
Its not may, or will avoid, it will happen.
The intent of this program is not to reduce illegal drug use, its an equivocation they use to support their opposition to eliminating the supply of illegal drugs.
Because it involves advocating for law and order, and supporting the police, it requires opposing the victim mentality and supporting responsibility instead of privilage.
In other words opposition to progressives.

    2. I feel very sorry for people who become addicted to drugs. We could build hospitals for these people. Take the money we use on asylum seekers ($240 million?) and build hospitals to treat people with drug additions. Get them off the street. I was at the hospital helping a friend with mental health issues. The guy next to us had no shoes or socks on. He had been injecting through his feet, they swelled up, he couldn’t wear his shoes and now he had a foot infection from dirty feet. These people are easy to treat. Build hospitals and give them all a bed. How tough can it be? Instead we let people come in from other countries and feed and house them, give them free medical and dental help and subsidized daycare. Meanwhile we have thousands of drug addicts walking the streets because they have no place to go.

      1. Although a libertarian, I lean to forceful treatment of drug addicts. Why?
Yes, this IS a personal behavior but, as the experience of China shows with the 19th century opium problem, if enough people adopt a personal behavior it CAN become a social, health and order problem.

        1. You’re not a libertarian just an authoritarian twit.

“the experience of China shows with the 19th century opium problem, if enough people adopt a personal behavior it CAN become a social, health and order problem.”

That can be said of anything. It really doesn’t matter.

  8. A video on Swedish experience with socialism.
    “Sweden: Lessons for America?”
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jq3vVbdgMuQ

Compare this to the socialists in North America claiming Sweden as their model.
It is not necessarily their rejection of socialism, though they see the problems and can’t bring themselves up to free themselves of it.

Also, it is true that free enterprise in Sweden is more abundant than in Canada, and is becoming more free.

While the airhead in Ottawa is doing his damned best to strangle it.

It could be said again that nobody, especially in North America knows history, probably something that happened yesterday, if not for blogs.

This is separate from the Swedish immigration problems.

  9. A person who is racist is : right wing.
A person who believes Canada should send aid to third world countries is : left wing.
A person who believes that women should stay at home and be mothers is : right wing.

That was a school assignment in a B.C. grade 10 class.

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/it-was-very-offensive-father-shocked-by-assignment-asking-students-to-classify-extreme-views-1.4849906

A politician who believes that pipelines should be approved and that we should also stop using fossil fuels is : an idiot
A politician who believes that gender sensitivity should be part of an international trade agreement is : an idiot
A politician who praises Cuba and China while criticizing the USA is : a communist idiot
A politician who seems to disappear on international junkets just when problems are surfacing at home is : a coward, a moron and an idiot

    1. A politician that thinks a trip abroad to generate trade is an opportunity to take their family on a tax payer funded vacation replete with ethnic costumes is a pretentious fool.

  10. We all saw the drop kick in Toronto I am sure. I cannot believe that the foul man defended his actions as “being in the defence of women”! By vicously assaulting a woman? This is the twisted logic of the left.

    1. So, with regard to Steve’s link above, which side of the political spectrum is more likely to kick a woman in the head if she does not support their views — left or right?

    1. I am disgusted and embarrassed. Where did Canada get this petty amateur to act as PM. Such a fool.
