The possibility of war between the Soviets and China had long existed. About 50 years ago, troops from each side exchanged gunfire across the Amur River, though I don’t remember what caused it.
Shortly after that, while I was still in high school, I read War Between Russia and China by the late Harrison Salisbury, who, at the time he wrote it, worked for The New York Times. He mentioned that Russia and China’s distrust and disliking of each other went back centuries. If anyone would start WW III, he speculated that it would have been them.
I suspect that the distrust and dislike between Russia and China may have been the expansion of Imperial Russia over the Urals after the 1600s and into Asia after the collapse of the Golden Horde rule in the fractured Mongol Empire areas.
Further, there were numerous examples of Red Army troops crossing the Chinese border while chasing White Army remnants after the civil war in the early 1920s and then later of chasing escapees from the communist paradise even into the 1930s. In fact, a female cousin of mine married a fellow whose grandparents escaped across the Amur River at Christmas time in 1930 and feared recapture until they reached Harbin.

My Russian father-in-law claims he was in a tank a hundred kilometers inside China in the 1970s. He retired a colonel and has awesome respect for China, he told me only three out of a thousand applicants are accepted into their armed forces.
The story is somewhat typical of black Russian humor suggesting that the Soviet military was quite inept and the conscripts knew that.
I suspect that if the Communists and other Deep State swill running this country were disposed of properly, the US and Russia could easily reach an accord as friendly competitors to stand united against the two major enemies out to destroy the world:

Of course, Israel had another advantage the Soviet Union didn’t. Israeli soldiers understood Israel was worth fighting for. If it had come down to it, one wonders how many Soviet soldiers would have really cared to be the last to die for communism.
(That’s why Russia’s nuclear arsenal is rigged to fire automatically if contact is lost with Moscow. In Soviet times, no human soldier in his right mind would have retaliated against the good people who had just polished off the globalist tormentors of his nation in one shot.)
Justin Trudeau needs to ask himself how many Canadian soldiers would care to be the last to die for the right to eat tasteless cheese with French on the wrapper. And he needs to deal with President Trump accordingly.
Trudeau’s owners would never tolerate that. Nor will the owners of his replacement. Since they are the same as his owners.
Canada is stuck with One World Government swill as long as there is no decent Canadian who is able and willing to fund his own campaign for PM. The US only got Trump because he was able and willing to do that.
And please do understand that even if someone like that appears and wins office, the Media and the Canadian Deep State will do their best to destroy him just as they are currently trying to do to President Trump.

No. One fine day President Trump, or his successor Jared Kushner, will tire of tolerating the presence of a Chinese satellite state on the northern border of the United States. And that will be the end of the Libranos.

I have travelled in China much more than Russia. I have an abiding respect for what the Chinese have been able to accomplish over the past 40 years. Russia and China are both totalitarian regimes. Bottom line is that China has been far more successful at delivering benefits to their population. China has always been insular in their ambitions and reasonable direct when they pursue economic goals outside of China.
As the EU collapses and Russia continues to be ran by the KGB mobsters I give the nod to China as the biggest challenge to the USA. I have to believe that USA ‘think tanks’ who have guided the USA through generations of national security threats also think China is the biggest challenge to USA global leadership. The world economy will collapse due to debt. It will be whatever country that manages this collapse the best that will dominate in its aftermath. I think Trump is trying to prepare the USA for this challenge but I also think it will be the Chinese who succeed.

In a generation China’s biggest challenge will be India. Followed by internal demographic decay.
Trump has blown up America’s deficits by hundreds of billions of dollars and left entitlements untouched. He is not preparing in any way for the debtocoplyse.
China’s demographics aren’t as important as people might thing. What matters much more is what China makes its currency. China launched oil trading futures denom’d in Yuan about 6 months ago. Now over 14% of the market is taken by these contracts.
Wars are won by those who are willing to do what is necessary to win. We beat Germany and Japan so badly that they are trembling eunuchs on the world stage. To win wars like the one in Afghanistan that never ends – fill enough graves for the enemy to make them beg you to quit. Our tolerance is our worst enemy and the reason we haven’t won a war in 73 years.

I remember reading a crazy story where apparently Mao approached the Stalin with a plan for China to goad the US into nuclear war, with the Soviets responding with a massive nuclear attack. Stalin begged off, and subsequent Soviet leadership was shown to share our view that nuclear war was unacceptable.
Chinese and Russian communism are quite different, but share a nexus at brutal and genocidal collectivist schemes.
In the mid 80s, at RMC my 3rd year international relations, we all had to write an essay on the prospects for Russia/China rapprochement, so this issue has been around for awhile.
Read “Beaking with Moscow” by Soviet defector Arkady Shevchenko. He says that in the late 1960s, the Soviets were seriously considering a pre-emptive nuclear strike against the Chinese, and they were discretely sounding out the Americans to see how we would respond to that. Nixon’s opening of talks with the Chinese put an end to the Soviet’s nuclear war plans.
China will become a world power a second time, for the first time of any nation.
despite mao’s catastophic policies and lethal implimentation of collectivisation et al, the Chinese are self sufficient CAPITALISTS at heart and have been for 5000 years. except for the mao blip. all my ex’s siblings and friends are college/university grads: medicine, banking, etc.
they are resourceful, hard working, loyal for the most part to their families, leadership and nation, very competitive, the grand sum of which are the reasons they will be a dominant world power in our lifetime.

Chinese are accustomed to looking at the long term and the big picture. in that regard, things are on target and the timetable is accurate.
