…all the ingredients of an authoritarian system;
The high-performing advertising machine is hunting down every glimpse of our privacy. Over the last years, Facebook has built the ultimate surveillance apparatus and this is far from over; just look at Facebook’s know-how in facial recognition or its recent attempt to access our banking data or the finally admitted tracking of non-Facebook users. We’ll never be able to say that we didn’t know.

To paraphrase Groucho Marx … Who would want to be a member of a “Community” … with “standards” such as these?
I assume that Fackebook has already calculated the total number of leftists on their platform … and are happy with THOSE numbers. They have already planned for conservatives abandoning their site. And they actually BELIEVE that THEY can influence the upcoming election through Soviet-styled, Maoist censorship.
That would be Fakebook Chairman “Zucks to be You”.
I can see their stock price plummeting further…

It worked for Mao.
So we know it works.
so that’s it.
unlike ‘1984’ when it was gubbamint installing the surveillance, looks like it will be private enterprise doing it, and ‘follow the money’ style the social engineers come up with ways and means to make it beneficial to gubbamint to go along.
lots of mutual back scratching and LOTS of money changing hands.
sign of the times.
I *still* dont have a fakebook acct.
incidentally, there was a time when I tried to remove a fakebook acct (not mine) having the password and permission to do so, upon entering said password at the prompt aka ‘final step’ . . . . . . . nuthin happened. it just kinda ‘sat there’. the account was NOT deactivated whatsoever.
anybody have a similar experience?
Never had a Face Book account and never will. I’m old and don’t care to do such stuff. How they can track me when I’ve never subscribed I don’t know. That said, if it’s possible, I’m sure they do it. I’m just gonna do my best to make em work harder for my info! This high tech corporate take over of our society, and controlling our lives is both disgusting and scary!
Zuckerberg has a personality? I didn’t think nerdlinger was a positive attribute.
Except it’s voluntary and only used to sell me stuff, unlike state surveillance which is intrusive, coercive, and used to push coercive goals. The former is annoying the latter is the real issue.
undork, you have NO idea. You are on the net, “they” track you, without your permission, period!!!
I’ll just drop this here….
In reply to her request for comment, the reporter from Bloomberg got this from Facebook:
“We are committed to helping ensure that journalists around the world feel safe on Facebook as they connect their audiences with meaningful stories. We permit open and critical discussion of people who are featured in the news or have a large public audience based on their profession or chosen activities, but will remove any threats or hate speech directed at journalists, even those who are public figures, when reported to us.”

So let’s see.
Facebook makes precious little money in Myanmar. Hence it had no incentive to try to control the flow of information there. The benign neglect allowed the people of Myanmar to use Facebook to organize against Muslim terrorist gangs and ultimately solve Myanmar’s Muslim problem.
And I am expected to believe that this was a bad thing.
The lesson is that in the Third World, free speech is still possible on social media. It’s only in the developed world that Facebook tries very hard to control the narrative to suit Mark Zuckerberg’s political prejudices and financial interests.
