Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

I was at the gym this evening and noticed that the three big screen TVs that were tuned in to the MSM (CNN, CBC and CTV) all had stories about suicide prevention, suicide hotlines, a priest whose dad committed suicide, on at the same time. It was almost a 911 moment. Why, I wondered was there such a cross-border case of media group think. I then realized they each had footers at the bottom of the screen that noted that Anthony Bourdain, a CNN employee (who knew?), and Kate Spade, a fashion designer and business woman, had both committed suicide. I guess they were hoping to stem a sudden spike in copycat suicides. Mental illness and chronic depression are serious issues that affect way too many people these days but the sudden universal interest by the MSM when it happens to one of their own, Bourdain, made me wonder if they would run the same type of “prevention” narrative if Ford and Trump both did themselves in one week.
Without a note or clear motive for his suicide, I’ll say he was murdered.
Maybe you are being sarcastic? I can’t tell. However….
The French police say suicide by hanging. Motive unknown….. I mean other than it was well established that he suffered from depression and had so suffered for years by his own admission. And speaking of motives, what motive would it be for murder?
I don’t know how to say it another way – there’s is a darkness in people that overtakes them
Are we slowly but surely losing our spirit & ability to truly feel joy?
High profile celebrity suicides are but a canary in a coal mine imho. Children taking their lives is really scary.

I remember when qualifications to be a taxi driver meant being of good character and competent.
That was back before 9/11 happened, of course. The real question after 9/11 is, not what fell?
It is, what remained standing?
The guy is East Indian? – no way in the world is he going to drive someone of whatever minority without getting cash up front. He’s not stupid. The guy should have a medal. If we had a police force, he could have called the cops but they would likely show up the next day.

“Canadian Economy Loses 31,000 Full-Time Jobs
Workforce participation rate falls to lowest level in almost 20 years.
More concerning economic numbers have been released.
In May, the Canadian economy lost 7,500 jobs. While part-time jobs were up 23,500, a total of 31,000 full-time jobs were lost.
Additionally, the workforce participation rate (considered by many a more accurate gauge than the unemployment rate) fell to 65.3%. That’s the fewest number of workers as percentage of the economy since October of 1998.
Further, the economy has now lost jobs in back to back months (1,100 were lost in April), the first time that’s happened since 2014.
This is just the latest in a series of concerning economic numbers, as Canada’s economy is weakened by the carbon tax, and the collapse of investment – being made even worse by the Trans Mountain debacle.
Thankfully, the economy could be set for a boost with the Ford PCs winning a majority government in Ontario. Now, we will see how pro-growth policies at the provincial level can do when burdened by the anti-growth policies of the Trudeau government.”

Massive Genetic Study Reveals 90 Percent Of Earth’s Animals Appeared At The Same Time
http://www.techtimes.com/articles/228798/20180530/massive-genetic-study-reveals-90-percent-of-earth-s-animals-appeared-at-the-same-time.htm
Evolutionists hardest hit.
Evolutionists aren’t hit at all. Just more evidence supporting evolution.
So the phrase “at the same time” went right over your head then. At the same time is incompatible with random evolution.
Not really. Any drastic change in the environment globally, whether it be meteors or sunspots or nuclear war would lead to rapid changes via evolution all over the world.
This really provides no support for either side in the evolution/creation debate, it is simply a piece of data that every honest person will have to account for in their preference.
There is however a common misconception that evolution works to produce superior life forms, when in reality it strongly supports the most efficient form of ‘meh, good enough’.
from article:”This conclusion is very surprising,” says Thaler, “and I fought against it as hard as I could.”
Ah, but you know better than the geneticist quoted in the article.
He fought against the result because why?! But then you suppose that University of Basel geneticist David Thaler wouldn’t think that this discovery supports either side in the evolution/creation debate.
Somehow David Thaler doesn’t seem to agree with you.
Sorry Oz, from the article:
==================================================================================
As to how that could have happened, it’s unclear. A likely possibility is the occurrence of a sudden event that caused large-scale environmental trauma and wiped out majority of the Earth’s species.
“Viruses, ice ages, successful new competitors, loss of prey — all these may cause periods when the population of an animal drops sharply,” explains Jesse Ausubel, director of the Program for the Human Environment.
Such times give rise to sweeping genetic changes across the planet, causing new species to appear. However, the last time such an occurrence took place was 65 million years ago, when an asteroid hit the Earth and killed off the dinosaurs and half of all other species on the planet.
==================================================================================
He made no mention of why he fought against the conclusion in the article. Quite possibly because he felt the timeline did not fit with any known catastrophic global environmental change of sufficient magnitude. Maybe because when you come up with a result or conclusion that is so surprising a real scientist is obligated to fight against it as part of the scientific method, to make sure that it survives vigorous testing before being promoted to the status of theory.
Science can not prove religion. In fact, science can not prove anything. All science does is form hypotheses and then try to disprove them, and if they survive enough attempts at being disproven, they are elevated to the status of theory. Specific interpretations of creationism can be disproven by science, which is why you start to see things like intelligent design pop up without any specific scriptural basis.
And make no mistake, I believe in science, which is why the AGW crowd on the whole bothers me so much, their claims are not scientific, they are just passing fans of science, like the fans of successful sports teams who do not understand the game being played.
Of course science cannot prove religion, especially since science is a competing religion in the pomo era we live in all the while pretending to not be a religion.
The new Priesthood are Scientists.(and I use the term scientist loosely but accurately and appropriately)
And I don’t think you are sorry. I think you are a liar.
aside: WHAT IS THE POINT OF SAVING MY USER NAME AND EMAIL IF I HAVE TO PROVE I’M NOT A ROBOT
EVERY TIME
“Such times give rise to sweeping genetic changes across the planet, causing new species to appear.”
Bull Shit. Pure unalloyed arrogant assumption using an assertion to prove an assertion with ZERO empirical proof. The article I referenced is empirical proof. That’s why Basel geneticist David Thaler “fought so hard” against the solid empirical conclusions he was forced to face.
You are literally using evolution belief to prove evolution belief with such simpering circular reasoning.
Pretty sure you are the one making assumptions, lots of them, including the motivation of the geneticist to fight against the finding.
Science is just the pursuit of truth that can be tested. Yes it debunks many of the fundamentalists versions of religion like the 6000 year old universe, but those are mere interpretations of religious scripture made by men. Notwithstanding Luke 4:12, there really is no way that science could test religion as a whole, only particular assertions about religion made by some men. Proving or disproving the existence of a God is far above the pay grade of any scientist.
If you are arguing, as you seem to be, that this article disproves evolution and proves fundamental creationism, you have to account for the other 10% of species.
If there is a new Priesthood, it is not scientists, but scienticians at best, and they could only arise because of the irrational opposition to real science resulting in a widespread scientific illiteracy.
“drastic change in the environment globally, whether it be meteors or sunspots or nuclear war would lead to rapid changes via evolution all over the world.”
Yeah, that’s you and it’s a baseless presumption. Rubbish. Pure wishcasting on your and your ilk’s part.
“Pretty sure you are the one making assumptions, lots of them, including the motivation of the geneticist to fight against the finding.”
And you ankle bite the obvious literal understanding of the geneticist’s quandary and have ZERO alternate explanations. Lame, Edwina, lame.
“If you are arguing, as you seem to be, that this article disproves evolution and proves fundamental creationism, you have to account for the other 10% of species.”
No, I don’t. The Priests do. Neither the methodology nor the study itself are available to public scrutiny.
For me, it is enough that some of the Priests of Science have seen an epiphany and if they are not scourged from the Priesthood will upset the applecart.
That is science, yes? Skepticism is scientific, yes? Science doesn’t mean ruling out the existence of God or that God created everything as the Bible says, yes? If scientists or Science did do that, then it wouldn’t be science, absent proof, yes? I mean really, how can science say “No, that can’t be!” without proof, yes?!
If it did do so, as you seem to be doing so, it wouldn’t be science. It would be a competing religion.
I am a Christian believer. I am not against science, I am against limiting science to the unscientific parameters of Atheists. After all, science is a Christian invention.

The poll on Doug Ford needs some SDA love.
There was some Federal Liberal guy on CBC news (I missed his name), anyway, he was almost hysterical “Why would people vote for someone who is obviously unqualified.” I thought” You buzzard — have you looked at your own leader? ” Liberals are in no position to criticize Doug Ford.
Some Twitter posters were also hysterical — one woman worried that her son might no longer have access to Gay-straight alliances and that her new MPP did not believe in man made global warming. The poster is a writer and quite smart. Kind of confirms Liberalism is a mental illness. Mass hysteria for sure.
Consumers in Ontario and Quebec can expect to pay less for natural gas to heat their homes as a new pipeline connects shale gas from the northeastern United States to the Dawn storage hub near Sarnia in southwestern Ontario.
The Rover Pipeline last week won approval from the U.S. energy regulator to increase shipping to its capacity of 3.25 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas, transporting the fuel from Marcellus and Utica shale wells in the northeastern U.S. to American markets and, via the Vector Pipeline connection, to the Dawn hub for distribution in Central Canada.
The long-term benefits for eastern Canadian natural gas consumers come at the cost of long-term negatives for western gas producers, said Martin King, a commodity analyst for GMP FirstEnergy Capital in Calgary.

I’m dissapointed no one has praised the real hero of the hour: God freakin’ bless whatever lady levelled the scurrilous sexual harassment complain against Patrick Brown and got him to step down. All is owed to her. Should make a statue of her and call it ‘the anonymous libeler’.
Yes, that may turn out to be one of greatest political blunders assuming politicians were involved.
Then again, probably not. The Grits and Dippers had already been deemed unelectable.
Horwath’s brief, failed flourish and the collapse of Grit/Wynne vote clearly demonstrated that.
Then again, if this opposition research had been released half way through May?
Anyway, a sad chapter in so-called investigative journalism. Plenty of lawsuits and criticism coming there.
Patrick Brown was, like his forebears back to and including Ernie Eves, a transcendental fail. I am quite sure he would have found a way to blow it. He’s like Neo from the Matrix except instead of bending The Matrix to dodge bullets, he would have dodged victory. The only way he would have failed worse if he won: Premier Brown would have been a timid bumbling mess.
I somewhat suspect that it was promoted by a Tory, not the left.
When the public is clearly tired of the same old crap and looking for a change, you do not want to offer the same old crap to them. I remember not being able to find any way that a Patrick Brown government would substantially differ from Wynne. He may not promote the same degeneracy, but he lacked the balls to curtail it.
Trudeau becomes unglued, decides not to wait for tardy Trump to show, and starts the proceeding.
Then apparently Trump “disrupts” the affair. He’s so disruptive, so obviously morally inferior and unfit as POTUS.
Trump gives our folks a rude awakening, trade is not a discrete issues, it’s all trade; and on dairy, the gig is up.
“No tariffs, no barriers, that’s the way it should be and no subsidies. In other words, let’s say Canada, where we have tremendous tariffs. The U.S. pays tremendous tariffs on dairy, as an example, 270 per cent … we don’t want to pay anything, why should we pay anything?” Trump said, referencing the Canadian tariff levied on U.S. and foreign milk imports.”
Luckily we’re getting tough with our white hats approach that yielded so much success in the steel discussions:
“There’s a reason why Donald Trump continues to write tweets on dairy products and Canada — it’s because I’ve told him many times: ‘No, he won’t touch, we won’t touch, our supply management system,'” Trudeau told reporters Thursday. “We will always defend our supply management system.”
Sure just avert your gaze Mr Trudeau. As for Sheer; does he see the trap has been set for him?
Quebec dominates the dairy industry, and the Tories don’t need the Quebec vote, but the Grits do. Get relief for other industries by throwing Quebec dairy to the free trade wolves. They will argue, of course, that their protection is good for “us;” that’s why it’s illegal to do otherwise. What a bonus for Sheer and the Conservatives.

At least Maher is honest about pining for bad news to restore democracy, aka the gilded oligarchs overlording.
What a campaign slogan, “Make America Decline Again.” Where’s my MADA hat?
“By the way, I’m hoping for it because one way you get rid of Trump is a crashing economy. So please, bring on the recession.”
“Sorry if that hurts people but it’s either root for a recession or you lose your democracy,” Maher added.”
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 223,000 jobs were added last month.”
It also noted that unemployment was at 3.8 percent, the lowest so far this year.”
Damn it. Good luck with the Obama did that argument; but try they no doubt will.
“Pete Hegseth said Saturday … that Maher says things that many liberals are thinking but won’t say.”
Maybe the GOP should bring it up. D’ya think?
http://insider.foxnews.com/2018/06/09/bill-maher-hoping-economic-recession-get-rid-president-trump
“Good luck with the Obama did that argument”
He didn’t but neither did Trump. The trend line in unemployment is very straight and extends back several years. GDP growth continues to be sub-par, and the USD is still weak historically. USG spending and deficits are insane, and a recession is indeed overdue.
All of that is for the most part exclusive of who is president, I hope you know that.
Governments facilitate rather than manage economies.
All our problems start with the statist view that government can run or manage economies. No they can’t, they can pretend like China (an albeit extreme example), but the don’t imho.
They have no (or shouldn’t have) control over monetary policy which is a big driver.
But governments of all stripes are good at claiming credit for good news and ignoring bad news, that is axiomatic in politics.
Trump has sent the right signals and has also used tax cuts and yes government spending (did you think the spigot could just be turned off in the US system?) of expansionary fiscal policy.
Yes, he can take credit for growing confidence better and faster than otherwise; did Obama cut taxes or repatriate $billions in corporate dough?
Recessions happen, inventories rise, other factors invade such as inflation and yes, sentiment. The tenor of Obama’s and Trump’s presidency regarding taxation, intervention and trade are of some determinable value, and Trump’s approach is demonstrably superior to the big corrupt internationalist and Europeanized model of Obama. In my opinion of course.
IOW Trump is doing nearly precisely what he said he would do.
Woosh go the goalposts.
“Yes, he can take credit for growing confidence better and faster than otherwise”
Meaningless.
“Trump has sent the right signals and has also used tax cuts and yes government spending (did you think the spigot could just be turned off in the US system?) of expansionary fiscal policy.”
So now giant deficits are okay, including Obama’s?

how do you put in a deck and get EVERY. ONE. OF. THE. POSTS. WITHIN. 1/8TH. OF. AN. INCH. E-V-E-R-Y TIME?
having a form of autism, I lack ‘people’ skills and therefore rely on my hyper literal and analytical skills to come up with better ways of doing things.
want a really attractive well built deck ma’am?
-wham enough 2X4s in the ground and hang the perimeter beams (2X6s) onto them.
– now using joist hangers, hang the main support beams (2X8s?) onto THEM. you now know *precisely* where the posts need to be WITHOUT the ‘traditional’ measure measure measure measure guesswork hope-to-gawd CRAP.
ALSO, MAJOR point. the client can now better visualize the dimesions etc of the $4000 deck WAAAAAYYY beforehand, and thus request changes. (jeepers contractor, that’s very nice of you)
– also fer instance, locate any railings, stairs, etc that will need support posts with a couple screws etc
– out comes the post hole digger
-economic AND technical superior advantage of THIS method: instead of wasting part of the post the ‘traditional’ way, get the LONGEST 4X4s you can transport, drop it in the 1st hole, attach with a screww, lop it off at the top edge of the beam and on down the line. ergo, the ONLY waste is the last cut, NOT waste with every one of them (get it?)
NO nail (pun intended) biting hope hope hope we’se gots dem all in da right spot boss!!! NONE of that. in fact the only measuring you did was the initial locating of the temp 2X4s that held the perimeter beams.
– now proceed with the concrete in the hole and then drill holes for the galvanized bolts etc fully strengthening the support structure. and on go the deck boards. voila!!! FAR more accurate, and, the posts are ALL in their optimum spot with a measly 1/8th of an inch, ALL of them, EVERY job, *one hundred percent of the time*
and my beef? EVERY time I was on the zhob attempting to suggest and explain the HUGE advantages of THIS approach, ie, the posts are the THIRD step NOT the first, I get a torrent of sarcasm, denial, hate, criticisms, etc from the ysms. who CANNOT ‘think outside the box’.
or the stereotype scowling cigar chomping bossman who likewise ‘yer gonna do it my way Im da boss bla bla bla’.
or, building a pressure treated fence? the dude next door is a socialist who thinks YOU should pay fer the whole t’ing?
ok, how do you make it very esthetically attractive and economical?
like this:
screw one board right next to an end post.
now measure the remaining open area of the fence and calculate the distance between the remaining boards.
say fer instance 7 1/2 feet, 10 std boards, whatever, and mark the gaps using highly accurate millimeters. now just screw them in place, tucking the next one right beside the *other post* (which conceals the joist hanger) until done.
(the socialist neighbor gets the ugly side. heh-heh-heh!)
far better than the ‘traditional’ method of wham bam thank you ma’am, oopsie!! gotta rip the last one to fit!!! (thus breaching the pressure treating) AND very amateur looking.
but, expect HUGE opposition if you DARE suggest or horror of horrors, actually USE this method.

Great news for all the birds and bats they would otherwise have sliced and diced; no problem for the renewables industry troughers who still get their rich subsidies whether the wind blows or not. But definitely unfortunate PR for an industry which would prefer everyone not to notice one of wind energy’s main problems: it’s intermittent – which means that a) it’s not always there when you need it and so b) it requires constant back up from more reliable fossil fuel on standby.
We shouldn’t laugh, except actually we must. Otherwise guys like this will win the day.”

Does anyone know what the CBC’s $1+ billion goes to? It certainly doesn’t appear to be spent on its Saturday afternoon opera radio programming.
I’m listening to Saturday Afternoon At The Opera right now as I usually do at this time of the week. It’s a program which was first broadcast two years ago, repeated last year, and it’s back again (a classic Tosca featuring Maria Callas).
I’m a long-time listener to Saturday afternoon operas, going back to when Bill Hawes hosted the old Opera By Request. Things, however, haven’t been right since the CBC strike around a dozen years ago.
Back then, Saturday Afternoon At The Opera had been hosted by Howard Dyck with the assistance of producer Warren Wilson. But in the shakeup of the CBC that resulted, Dyck and Wilson were given the boot and were replaced by Bill Richardson. I thought he was a dull and boring know-nothing host and I was quite pleased when he sought employment elsewhere. (Dyck and Wilson had musical backgrounds, though I wasn’t so sure about Richardson. If he had any musical knowledge, he certainly didn’t show much of it.) His replacement was Canadian tenor Ben Heppner and he’s done a terrific job in the last few years.
It used to be that the Saturday opera programming consisted of live recordings of performances at houses around the world by different companies, such as La Scala, Paris, or Glyndebourne, but that hasn’t been done in quite a while. Instead, Heppner interviews someone and they analyze the guest’s favourite opera recording.
Unfortunately, it seems that the CBC has made a limited number of those shows and they are dusting them off each year and broadcasting them until the Met returns in December.
So, since the CBC is repeating old material, what is it spending its budget on?
The British are waking up!

This sounds a lot like the old ‘hydrogen economy’ of years gone by. All they need to do is find a nice hydrogen well or mine, and they are in business.
Bottom line, unless the fuel produced contains more energy than is contained in the input feedstocks and required for processing, it makes things worse. Suckers always want to invest in perpetual motion machines, so long as you can give them a new name that is not already tarnished.

“NOT SO SQUEAKY CLEAN? Canada’s pin-up PM Justin Trudeau ‘was accused of groping a woman at a music festival two decades ago’
The self-proclaimed feminist politician was alleged to have apologised to a female reporter after ‘inappropriately handling’ her at the event in Creston, British Columbia in 2000
“Earlier this year he told CBS he didn’t think it likely any allegations of sexual impropriety would emerge about him.
When asked on their radio show The House he if anyone would likely accuse him he said: “I don’t think so.
“I’ve been very, very careful all my life to be thoughtful and to be respectful of people’s space and people’s headspace as well.””

So Trudeau gives Trump a picture of his Grandfather’s brothel. I had two thoughts when I saw this. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/justin-trudeau-trolls-trump-with-framed-photo-of-his-grandfathers-canadian-brothel
1. We expect more maturity from a Prime Minister. No wonder Trump is targeting Canada now. Suggest the Sock puppet man up, grow up, shut up and stop trying to score cheap points. You are not as superior as you think.
2. Will Trump give Trudeau a picture of Trudeau’s Grandfather’s first gas station? The Grandfather who was the last Trudeau to actually work.
