  1. And apparently the Forces under spent their budget by $2.5 billion. Incompetence! Money available – they chose not to spend it.

  2. With “Climate Change” as the new strategic imperative, the warmer climate will allow troops to sleep without sleeping bags on cots. Perhaps they will be directed to be naked so that they all get to become more “diverse” as they experience all the variants of gender fluidity. This will become known as the Spawn’s Army.

  3. At the risk of stating the obvious, not every member of the CF is issued with this kit, unless things have changed in the twenty years I’ve been out.

But if they’re grabbing issued gear from field units etc, then this perhaps this is a big deal.

The CF says it’s a kit reallocation issue. Maybe new stuff is on the way?

I will await evidence this kit is being used by anyone but authorized military members and associated civilians.

I can’t help wondering if they will start asking for their Arctic parkas?

    1. “…not every member of the CF is issued with this kit,…” Agreed. Forty years ago we had to ‘indent’ (correct term if I recall) for sleeping bags and even so half the time many of us had to use our own. Rucksacks? We all were issued with a large kit bag which I still have.

  4. Couldn’t at a worse time for the army CAF..more PTSD cases.

    Politically Transmitted Sleeping-bag Diseases

  5. During the G-whatever meeting Chrétien hosted in Kananaskis Country west of Calgary back in the 90’s, the CF were stationed out in the bush armed to the teeth with missiles et al. The RCMP meanwhile were armed with up to 4 radio systems in each car, and a scrambled satellite handphone, off-shift at 5 star Banff hotels. No life like it!

  7. Not the first time, a similar order was issued in 2009 at Base Gagetown. New Trainees went to the field without any kit while staff officers working on base were told to turn it in. Begs the questions as to why the forces cannot order enough… seriously the army is not that big. Toronto has more police than there are deployable field soldiers, and more helicopters.

  8. Canada’s agreement to be a member of NATO is to spend 2% of GDP on the military.

The 1% being spent fails that agreement, hopefully Trump pushes this at the next G7 meeting.

  9. I got it.
the kits are considered perishable, and thus cannot be stocked up as part of a comprehensive inventory mgmt system.
or mebbe the oversight was deliberate, the source tucked away in some LIEberal honcho’s armed forces hating grey matter.

timed to coincide with the Normandy anniversary as a little private (pun intended) ‘joke’.

    1. I once received a write-off request for a deuce and half truck from one of the reserve units we supported, for staffing to the Base Admin Officer and Base Commander, supposedly stolen from a secured area.

It was as if I was just supposed to rubber stamp it for Commander approval.

I preferred them to think I knew how to do my job. They would have rubber stamped my forehead.

I phone the unit. Where is the civilian and military police investigation? Where is the completed summary investigation recommending write off? Didn’t hear from them again, probably a complete coincidence.

I was told later the deuce and half probably ended up at a hunting camp in Northern Ontario.

  10. Canada needs to be annexed by the USA and dissolved as a political entity. How pathetic is a nation that claims sovereignty yet cannot defend the same without the charity of the nation Canadians love to shit on. Canada is a joke and always has been. Stop defending it and come to your senses. The people of Canada deserve better that to be run into the ground by wackadoo environmental termites and Ruling Class puppets of the Crown. Rank and file Canadians need to drop their status of Queen’s Subjects and become sovereign citizens of a true and independent Canadian Republic.

    1. “Canada is a joke and always has been. ”

Bullshit. 74 years ago today the Canadians got farther into Normandy than anyone else.

        1. “That Canada (which I long for too) has been gone since Pearson.”

          Indeed.

      1. You must mean the involuntarily conscripted Canadian serfs who were drafted as cannon fodder into His Majesty’s armed forces? BTW didn’t General Eisenhower with the incredible might and wealth of the United States pull England’s (and Canada’s) losing ass out of that war?

        1. “didn’t General Eisenhower with the incredible might and wealth of the United States pull England’s (and Canada’s) losing ass out of that war?”

Actually that was Uncle Joe and his hordes of barbarians on the Eastern Front that broke the back of the Wehrmacht/SS.

          1. Detached logic like that is the reason the Canadian military in this day and age is a decrepit psuedo-force incapable of anything beyond some mild crowd control. The pretzel logic and the dereistic thinking of these comments are merely diversions away from the fundamental actual problems with the Canadian military.

Of course there is always the fact that the Canadian taxpayer is not technically in ownership or possession of the ROYAL Canadian Armed Forces but are simply another colonist personal possession of Queen Elizabeth as are all assets in Canada and especially the ones with Royal in their name. Canadian psyches routinely routinely deny this and we all know what national psychosis is associated with the denial of facts, which is of course at the heart of the Canadian Identity Crisis™.

Canadians deserve to chart their own destiny. Canadians deserve to have a President who is the Chief Executive who is in charge of it’s national armies, not some middling snotty effete disinterested English flunky Prime Minister who needs Royal Assent from freakin England.

Grow a set while you re-read some Canadian history preferably not written by a Canadian or Englishman.

        2. The only thing more ridiculous than a puffed-up Yank is some drip pretending to be a puffed-up Yank.

      2. I agree with Jamie. Our military is highly respected, even if our political leadership is not.

        1. Sorry to pop your balloon. Canadian forces are routinely mocked by other militaries and while some soldiers are indeed worthy of great respect, the Royal Canadian Armed Forces are not!

          1. The Canadian Armed Forces is not Royal. Your knowledge apparent on this subject is equal in value to your own weight in dog sh*t.

          2. More dierestic thinking…., but I will admit they changed the name.

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF; French: Forces armées canadiennes, FAC), or Canadian Forces (CF) (French: Forces canadiennes, FC),[11] are the unified armed forces of Canada, as constituted by the National Defence Act, which states: “The Canadian Forces are the armed forces of Her Majesty raised by Canada and consist of one Service called the Canadian Armed Forces.”[11]

This unified institution consists of sea, land, and air elements referred to as the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), Canadian Army, and Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Personnel may belong to either the Regular Force or the Reserve Force, which has four sub-components: the Primary Reserve, Supplementary Reserve, Cadet Organizations Administration and Training Service, and the Canadian Rangers. Under the National Defence Act, the Canadian Armed Forces are an entity separate and distinct from the Department of National Defence (the federal government department responsible for administration and formation of defence policy), which also exists as the civilian support system for the Forces.[12][13][14]

The Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian Armed Forces is the reigning Canadian monarch, Queen Elizabeth II,[15] who is represented by the Governor General of Canada.[16][17] The Canadian Armed Forces is led by the Chief of the Defence Staff, who is advised and assisted by the Armed Forces Council.

          3. LosDeporables – “The Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian Armed Forces is the reigning Canadian monarch, Queen Elizabeth II”

Ignorant knob! You do realize the Queen isn’t the defacto commander of Canadian Forces? You do realize that the political power of the Queen in Canada is absolutely minuscule and is mostly delegated to the Governor-General whose powers are minuscule. The only meaningful power the Governor-General has is hiring and firing the Prime Minister with minimal discretion involved. Discretion was exercised once in 151 years when a Liberal Prime Minister lost the election and wouldn’t resign. Canadians generally love the Queen.

        1. It does not matter to a Quebecois liberal. they did not want to fight for Canada. those who did acquitted themselves well. The spawn’s dad rode around with a german helmet on. he hated Canada and would have embraced the Nazis just because he hated Canada. the trudeaus love cuba and the communists that control the people. canadians really are stupid for electing a bozo like Justin.

  11. But do they have enough Potatoes… I remember the RCN ship that couldn’t sail until the Potatoes arrived….

    1. Interesting insight. Ex military? You’re probably right about the loggies; I was one myself. Back in the good old days we got lots of good stuff out the back door. Those days are long gone.

  12. The US army is getting new packs the Molle 4000. Maybe we could go to a surplus store and pick some up second hand?

    1. Funny you should mention that. We had to get some our kit at the surplus store in the late 60s and early 70s.

  13. Hmmm
    I see a juxtaposition here.
Canada is still not meeting its NATO commitment of spending 2% of GDP on defence. This is something Trump alluded to last year and at that time Canada got singled out as a laggard on security.
Come to the present and Trump is saying Canada is a security risk.
We don’t meet our commitments on defence even the ones this government committed to (Mali mission ?).
We don’t make any attempt at protecting our border. We are in the process of legalizing marijuana without any plan on stopping import or export .
Our government rewards an admitted terrorist that killed a US army medic with 10.5 million. Our government allows a major pipeline to be scuttled making it perfectly clear that even when it has all the legal and constitutional jurisdiction to forcibly remove all obstruction to the project they let the law be ignored. The federal and provincial governments still do not enforce the law inside the native reserves, particularly those that straddle the border. And if they do its done sporadically which allows the smuggling of guns, drugs, contriband, illegal guns and human trafficking to continue unabated.
Yeah, I just don’t understand how the US administration could see this country as a security threat.
