Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

“Trump Metal Tariffs Send Corporate Canada Reeling in Disbelief”
““I just want to scream,” the chief executive officer of structural-steel maker Canam Group Inc. said Friday by phone. “All this is doing is creating uncertainty. It’s the last thing we needed.””
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-06-01/trump-metal-tariffs-send-corporate-canada-reeling-in-disbelief
Regarding the Gordie Howe International Bridge, the new structure planned to connect Detroit and Windsor, Ontario.
“In theory, the bridge is supposed to stand for the close relationship between our two countries,” Dutil said. “It’s supposed to be built with North American steel, but that steel will be taxed. I can’t see how that will help the economy.”
Canada is building the bridge. It was the agreement made by the Canadian Government to fund and build it. I know of no provision which says anything about where the steel comes from. But, if it does say “North American steel” and Canada is building the bridge and Canada is in North America and the steel is not being imported into the U.S., then use Canadian steel and quit whining.
Also, the following article USED TO BE ON THE SITE but has since disappeared. I found it another way.

U.S. Philosophy on Trade:
“U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, speaking at an Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development conference in Paris on May 30, explained his distaste for multi-party free-trade accords, saying “multilateral tends to negotiate everything down to the lowest common denominator and since we are the main target, we end up getting eaten away.”
On WTO relevance:
“WTO Director General Roberto Azevedo ……. in an interview with Bloomberg that Trump’s actions were a wake-up call for both the Geneva-based institution and multilateralism.
“The system clearly needs updates, there is no doubt about that,” Azevedo said. “When the WTO was created in 1995, the internet barely existed, e-commerce was non-existent. Today it’s the biggest, fastest-growing sector of the economy. So, yeah, we need updates for sure.”
President Trump wakes up the slumbering globalists………… did Rip Van Winkle sleep for 20 years?
A big problem with the WTO and entities to battle foreign dumping of steel (mainly China nowadays) is that it takes six months to figure out by the trade arbitrator that China was ‘dumping’ cheap (often in quality) steel in Canada and the US. They’ve been doing this for about 20 years. So, why does our Canadian government continue to abide by this idiotic international arbitration system that takes too long to determine illegal trade activity. I would simply never allow Chinese steel into Canada considering their penchant for violating trade laws/argreements. What would the Chinese do to us? Not allow the import of coal, oil, wheat? Then I’d say eff em. Let them freeze and starve. If more countries did this the Chinese wouldn’t be thinking their in the driver’s seat. They’d be worried about a new revolution.
The premier of Sask. Scott Moe was on the Roy Green show on Saturday. If you click on his interview, at the 71/2 minute mark of his segment he gives his take on the steel tariff. The steel made at the American owned Evraz plant in Regina is sometimes shipped 3 different times, often across international borders before a final product is ready for its end user. In other words the North American steel industry has become highly integrated with specialization the order of the day.
https://tunein.com/podcasts/Politics/Roy-Green-Show-p57995/?topicId=121701962
It is cheaper for a California company to import Canadian recycled steel, turn it into flat steel, send it back to a Canadian company where it is made into pipe and then sent to Texas for use in the oil industry there. Trump would prefer the steel be made into pipe within the USA and shipped to Texas.
IMO Trump is using Canada and Mexico as punching bags as he prepares to renegotiate a trade deal with China. I hope the Trudeau negotiating team knows this. The 25% import duty on steel is no accident. China has a 25% import duty on goods as well.
The new Italian Interior Minister to migrants entering Italy … “The good times for illegals is [sic] over — get ready to pack your bags”.
The last paragraph is especially interesting, because it includes France.

Posted this before, but it bears repeating: Americans will pay more for electricity so Trump can bail out dying coal and nuclear plants: https://reason.com/blog/2018/06/01/trump-orders-immediate-steps-to-save-mon
Oh the stupid is strong in this one(as is the case will all communists).
Perhaps the moron who wrote this article for ‘Reason’ (an oxymoron when it comes to this website) can explain why the closing of coal plants in Ontario and the proposed de-commissioning of Pickering nuclear is going to lower out electricity prices. Perhaps you can explain that to the many in Ontario who are seeing electricity bills skyrocket in some cases and some bills of hundreds of dollars when electricity has been turned off? An don’t give me the delivery costs money crap. If no electricity is delivered….how is there a cost for delivery?
Come on comrade….explain your ‘reasoning’.
P.S. Obama’s EPA installed rules to basically drive energy companies that owned coal and nuclear plants to bankruptcy.
P.P.S. As you know (Really! You do know this). Global warming is a hoax/fraud/scam and that nuclear energy is the most carbon neutral and efficient energy source we currently know of.
Ontario is neither here nor there. That has nothing to do with anything you moron.
” Global warming is a hoax/fraud/scam”
Saying this over and over again does not make it true. The data is what the data is.
Indeed. That’s why people like you need to massage it and inflate it.
That is correct, saying it does not make it true, but it happens to be true. The data has been manipulated — and still they are struggling to make the case for AGW convincing.
It could be that the Ontario planners overestimated the effective utilization rate of unicorn farts.

India & Iran drop dollar in oil trade to bypass US sanctions
India will reportedly pay for Iranian oil in rupees as the two countries seek to bypass the US economic pressure on Tehran, industry officials have told the Sputnik news agency.
Under the deal, the payments for oil will be made through India’s state-run UCO Bank, which has no US exposure. The countries are also discussing the barter-like system to avoid US sanctions, Sputnik reports.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is on a visit to India this week, where he has met with Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj. “During the talks, the two sides also exchanged views on a further expansion of ties in banking, energy, trade, insurance, shipping, use of national currencies, Chabahar projects and Chabahar-Zahedan

“Karl Marx’s Legacy: More Than 100 Million Dead
Karl Marx is being celebrated by Chinese president Xi Jinping as the “greatest thinker of modern times.” Western academics are celebrating Marx as a historic critic of the modern world.
Yet what all the pro-Marxist, pro-socialist speakers ignore is the human cost of Marxism.
In the name of Marx, Lenin established a police state which killed millions. Stalin succeeded Lenin and proved even more ruthless and committed to killing. Hitler led the National Socialist German Workers’ (Nazi) Party and socialism was central to his taking over the German economy and the German state – a fact the Left makes every effort to avoid. Mao was the deadliest Marxist of all and killed an uncounted number of millions to impose his will on China. Castro turned a prosperous Cuba into a tragic police state in the name of Marxism-Leninism. Venezuela has been shattered by socialism.
The academic Left and its news media and Hollywood acolytes cannot confront the horrifying record of Marxism’s endless inhumanity.”
