I remember sitting through numerous Sunday sermons in which that guerilla war had been elevated to the level of a holy campaign. I heard promises of riches for all, along with equality and brotherhood once the South African government was overthrown.
Remarkably, the preachers of those sermons have been silent about what actually happened.

I well remember Mandella on the podium when good ole Lying Brian offered Canadian taxpayer dollars to help the cause in South Africa. Mandella then put Brian on the spot by saying something along the lines of the payment would, of course, be in American dollars. This was when the Canadian buck was a fraction below the US buck, but good old Nelson wanted to squeeze everything he could out of Brian, and Brian not having the stones to say if Canadian dollars weren’t good enough then go to H%ll, no good old Brian said, of course, the payment would be in American dollars.

The tone of the NYT article was that if only SA had gone full Zimbabwe by relieving all the whites of economic potential, all would be well. What happened in SA would be roughly equivalent to ending Canada’s apartheid by giving FNs exclusive political power regardless of population. The apparent Veto power over all resource development is a good start.
