It has always been about over population. It was the same debate we had in high school in the 60s and 70s. That’s why the global energy demand is high. Too many people. Indeed these countries can even make a profit by claiming to have reduced carbon dioxide emissions by announcing cancelling plans to build stuff that emits carbon dioxide; they then sell this ‘reduction’ to developed countries who would otherwise be highly taxed on their own emissions. I wish I could get paid for every trip in my car that I have announced I was going to take but have now chosen not to.
Therefore the population is not going to suffer in these undeveloped nations except where they have to buy foodstuffs from the very carbon-efficient agricultural industries in the carbon-taxing developed countries. The price of these foodstuffs will increase dramatically. If that happens the developed nations will be pressed to accept millions if not billions of starving ‘climate refugees’ because of our presumed guilt.

Tell me why I am surprised.
Over my working life-time in the private sector, I have paid over $1.5 million in income tax alone. I’ve also paid some kind of sales tax – first provincial, then also federal – on almost everything I buy.
Then when I try to live on my savings, I get taxed for what I gain on my savings, the savings that I worked hard to obtain so that I can continue to live after working for 40 years.
If I drive my car to purchase food for my home, I get taxed on the fuel I use.
I get taxed when I earn it, I get taxed when I save it, and I get taxed when I spend it.
Now I’ll get taxed when I eat, even when I cook my food.
For my latest gas bill, the carbon tax cost me as much as the amount of gas I used.
That’s a pretty good gig for the government, no?
You know something? Even donkeys will refuse to get up if their burden is too heavy. Not us. If we don’t carry that burden and give you what you want, the government forcibly takes it from us and/or we go to jail.

Our Benevolent and Enlightened Elites will decide that the “desired population decrease” is going too slow and augment the culling with a few selected diseases. Their conclusions are wrong. Adding costs to food in rich countries will NOT help obesity. The obesity epidemic is caused by high carbohydrate diets. The carbon taxes will drive the price of meats and dairy up more than the cheap carb foods, which will mean an increase in the obesity epidemic.

This is yet another example of the authoritarian asshole syndrome. A certain percentage of the population is plagued with the intense obsession to force other people how to live, how to speak, how to think, how to act and even how to eat. They gravitate towards careers that pay them to do this while also allowing them to feel like heroes for being authoritarian. Traditionally they were political and religious leaders but now it’s journalists, economists, environmentalists, bureaucrats, technocrats, academics and activists. They’re only trying to save your soul, your health, the planet…not just being authoritarian assholes forcing their fetishes on others.
If a few people have to suffer and die for them to satisfy their authoritarian compulsion , it’s ok, they’re prepared to make that sacrifice. It hurts them more than it hurts us, honest.

A bunch of people get together, give themselves a title that sounds semi official (like it’s a bunch of government appointed experts), they send press releases to journalists, and politicians then offer these press releases as justification for new taxes and regulations. The chain is self-important academics activists, journalists and politicians all the way down…authoritarian assholes from start to finish.
Why exactly are we required to listen to the Ecofiscal Commission? Just because they’ve created an official sounding organizations that works hand-in-glove with their authoritarian buddies? How arrogant are these people?

Its high time Canada had a voter bill of rights. No tax increase, fee increase, service increase, tolls, wage/benefit increase for public workers etc and no change in law or regulations, or treaties unless specified in clear language listed in a binding platform a political party has to present to the voting public before election day. Emergencies laws or regulations not listed specifically in the platform are temporary in effect until ratified by referendum by the public or withdrawn. We need to take the power away from the parties and bureaucrats, and put it back into the hands of the people. If this makes it cumbersome to run a country so be it.
