Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Ah, yes, the spaghetti harvest–a comedy classic if there ever was one.
It’s the 30th anniversary of one of the best April Fool’s pranks that I ever heard.
I used to be a shortwave listener back then and one of the stations I liked to tune into was the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS). Much of its programming back then consisted of shows and newsfeeds from domestic American radio networks, one of which was National Public Radio.
NPR had a weekday show called All Things Considered, which was similar to the CBC’s As It Happens. The lead item on its April 1, 1988 broadcast was that Canadian businessman Robert Campeau bought the state of Arizona.
The reporter mentioned that there were several advantages to that acquisition. Not only did it extend Canada’s growing season, it also raised its average temperature. The entire presentation was completely dead-pan and I’m sure that a lot of listeners were taken in by it.
I thought it to be quite hilarious. It was obviously a send-up of an actual business acquisition made by Campeau a few days earlier when he bought the American-based Federated Department Store chain.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration may have a boring name, but it has a very important job: It measures U.S. temperatures. Unfortunately, it seems to be a captive of the global warming religion. Its data are fraudulent.
Far from legitimately “adjusting” anything, it appears they are cooking the data to show a politically correct trend toward global warming. Not by coincidence, that has been part and parcel of the government’s underlying policies for the better part of two decades.

Many of the government agencies involved in that farce might be going along with it simply because their funding depends upon it. No bucks, no Buck Rogers, as the saying goes.
On the other hand, much of that sort of thing could be due to back-room jockeying. For example, one of NASA’s white elephants, the Space Launch System (which has been years in development and won’t fly for the first time, by some estimates, until well into the next decade), has been firmly planted in Alabama. That is courtesy of Senator Richard Shelby. By ensuring jobs in his state, he gets himself re-elected. But, I’m sure, that he might have arranged a few political deals with certain people to make sure that the SLS maintains its government funding in the first place.
It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if something similar could be said about NOAA.

I too like the software update. I noticed, however, that the Lindsay Shepherd video from yesterday is missing. It was an interesting video and generated some good comments. I wanted to go back to them.
Thank you, Kate, for all your good work! Increasingly, SDA is one of the few places where a conservative can feel at home. I seem to have managed to get myself banned from a couple of sites for non-PC comments (actually, I am pretty sure my comments were misinterpreted by some of the Neanderthals that serve as moderators) as well as having comments regularly deleted, which is of course frustrating if you were trying to have a reasonable conversation.

“The shame of antisemitism on the left has a long, malign history
The origins of today’s crisis in Labour date back to the 19th century, and ever since Jews have been seen as a problem by a strain of socialist thought”
“When the Soviet Union was finally forced to fight the Nazis, the suffering of Jews was deliberately and repeatedly downplayed. But after the war, things got much worse. The Soviet Union not only suppressed knowledge of what had been done to Jews but launched its own vicious antisemitic project, one that would have culminated in another genocide had Stalin not died.”
