House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy today called for the appointment of a Special Counsel to investigate potential bias and potential conflicts of interest and decisions made or not made by the Department of Justice in 2016 and 2017.
“…Goodlatte and Gowdy request the appointment of a Special Counsel to review evidence of bias by any employee or agent of the DOJ, FBI, or other agencies; the decisions to charge or not charge and whether those decisions were made consistent with the applicable facts, the applicable law, and traditional investigative and prosecutorial policies and procedures; and whether the FISA process employed in the fall of 2016 and continuing into 2017 was lawful and pursuant to all relevant policies and procedures”. Hillary broke 18 federal laws. Conrad Black broke one of the 18 (destruction of evidence) and went to jail. Martha Stewart broke another, lying to Federal Investigators, and went to jail. One law for the rich and another for the powerful.

Agreed. Trey Gowdy has become a tough-talking … yet completely ineffective … politician. Until the swamp ACTUALLY starts getting drained … I consider this a meaningless waste of time. We weren’t kidding about “lock HER up”. And now SO MANY MORE who were aiding and abetting her attempted coup … need to be LOCKED UP. Start issuing Indictments … or just go-away … and we the voters … will find someone who will.

I believe that the main reason Gowdy is leaving ‘the swamp’ is because of his frustrated efforts to achieve anything meaningful. He is clearly a ‘cut above’ compared to most other swamp dwellers. You, Kenji, ask for indictments. Isn’t that what Gowdy is working toward in asking for a special prosecutor? He lays out his reasons in a very logical way. Seems to me you both want the same thing.
Agreed … but the pace of work is wholly inadequate. Trump has 4-years (for certain). This will all have to be concluded within that timeframe. It better … or we will quickly return to the Obamination of America. It is frustrating that more subpoenas are not being filed to FORCE the release of documents throughout this investigation. I like Trey Gowdy. As Chief of the House Oversight Committee he has to maintain an evenhandedness that must be frustrating to those who do not understand what his job calls for. Gowdy has succeeded Jason Chaffetz who resigned as CHOC and then resigned his congressional seat due to health difficulties.
Both men are staunch conservatives and know that these big fish they were and have gone after are going to take some play on the line to sink the hook properly before they can land them for the biggest catfish fry in history.

Nothing good is accomplished in a hurry. Gowdy was hamstrung when the Benghazi investigation was going on by a corrupt and complicit FBI, CIA, and DOJ that wanted to protect their jobs and by inference the Democratic party. He is now stepping down from politics. This man I believe is a deep thinker and before I cast him to the dustbin of history like so many Americans have I believe he will bring the crooks and criminals to justice. I believe he will go after the small fry first, the reporters that colluded with the Democratic party and printed articles and op-ed pieces that were bought and paid for by the Democratic party. Advertising for the Democrats. This behaviour is not protected by the First Amendment, so the talking heads and the journalists that are trying to hide behind the First Amendment are SOL. When Gowdy starts handing out subpoenas, it’ll be the little fish that will lead to the big fish, that will lead to the “trophy” fish. It may take a year or two but the Democrats know that retribution is on the horizon and they will do everything and I mean everything to prevent the coming take-down.
By nature, I am a very patient person … but the Benghazi near complete FAIL … followed by 1.1Trump years of nada … is making me impatient and nervous that the Deep state just digs in and runs out the Trump clock. Then it all goes back to business as usual … or worse.
I thoroughly understand that it takes time and strategery to flesh out a winning case … but time and Benghazi are making me cynical.
Don’t look to Gowdy to start issuing subpoenas on any of this. That would keep the matter steeped in the swamp. There are basically two ways that this can move forward to a legal conclusion – 1. Special Counsel with narrowly defined parameters, or 2. Justice department investigation convening a Grand Jury. News reports indicate that the Atty Gen is seriously considering the former.

I have some experience in dealing with Canadian Federal Departments which think they have “gotcha’s” but fold and delay.
If it looks like, some how names of mid-levels might have notes in their personal files or such as a pending election, be willing to compromise, they are driven by their sinecures and fearful of not guessing correctly on the election results. One has to think many, many, American bureaucrats were complacent before the last U.S.A. Federal Election and are back in every shadow for personal reasons.

I think Trey Gowdy will make a fine replacement for Jeff Sessions. As Gowdy said during his announcement, he will be more effective as a prosecutor than a politician. Time to get some real work done.
Sessions will have had enough in another six months, and he looks like he could spend some time on a porch swing.
