The Sound Of Settled Science

Science News;

The abundance of recent discoveries of dinosauromorphs, a group that includes the dinosaur-like creatures that lived right before and alongside early dinosaurs, does more than call diagnostic features into question. It is shaking up long-standing ideas about the dinosaur family tree.
To Nesbitt, all this upheaval has placed an even more sacred cow on the chopping block: the uniqueness of the dinosaur.
“What is a dinosaur?” Nesbitt says. “It’s essentially arbitrary.”

  1. I am shocked, SHOCKED to find that biology doesn’t divide species into clearly defined categories the way the entirely artificial system of zoological taxonomy does.

  2. in my ignorance I went on to read some of the sandwich approach to using Carbon for electrical conduction. Being a true Nearanderthal in the acceptance of Carbon being the greatest threat for Humankind or in Canadian Newspeak Peoplekind; as discussed between our clown prince and anyone passing on the street with some photogenic capabilities.
Sorry! Clown prince and Madame Sophie Bovary seems to drive me off onto trivial thoughts. Anyways as a dye-in-the- Pure Laine of canada or is it just in thinking Quebec. Wait! it is Poutine which is now our New NCR National Food to represent all of Canada; or is it to clog the brain arterial grid of all the Central canada Press/Media.
Just in thinking is permeating all of canada as Clown prince and Madame Sophie Bovary continue to grandiose represent the Large Q component of canada.
Well what i am really tryinf to say is “what a mistake is being made” if the Large Q component__Laurentien Elite Francophone Leadership___ruling class continues to destroy Carbon Production through their multitude carbon Taxing__ only to discover Carbon Producing is really what the There is in There.
Gosh! is it true that NCR doesn’t stand for National Central Region or even National Cash Register because it is neither National; doesn’t ever provide real Cash except to the Large Q and The NCR itself; plus apparently when a Liberal Party is Governing the NCR really is the T-P-F/F. Y’all know the Tax-Payer Funding Faucet.
Sorry again once I go off on a tangent my Clown becomes increasingly less relevant

  3. What in the now politicized pseudo/junk science milieu isn’t “essentially arbitrary?”
Trump is slowly but surely undoing the DeMarxist politicization of all facets of American society well underway by the Obama administration, which included the IRS, Department of Justice, the EAP, the FBI, probably the CIA, and doctrinaire (political) science.
That politicization was the left’s ticket to unchecked power, untethered by elections.
Trump took that away – they hate him and must go ASAP. So they try to put him in a deep freeze with Logan and Hatch acts, and made up scandals.
Chretien politicized similarly, and the media went all in to defeat Harper, the truth be damned, when he was set to undo their statism.
If the Canadian voters have the temerity to challenge LPC hegemony and the competence of their PM, our media will go all in for their statists too. I wonder if the Liberal administration is capable of the legal shenanigans of their DeMarxist cousins, even after electoral defeat?
I have no doubt of that; you will be able to set your watch by it. Their 2015 performance is all the evidence I need.

  4. This is how science should work. Yes, new discoveries upend old theories but assist in a greater comperehnsion.
Captcha: CROMER – that would be the Cromer lifeboat?

  5. Maybe the Dino’s sperm count dropped. That meteorite story always seemed bogus to me. Kinda like that immaculate conception jazz.

  6. The point has been made by others, and I agree: how could they assume so much about scales, skin,or fur or hair, tail or no tail, external ears lobes or none…base solely on the skeleton?
Creation science is makes more sense.

  7. Bird-din-0-saurs with sharp teeth … razor-sharp talons … and who hunt in packs … “intelligently” … make for great TV! How dare anyone upset the fantasy, er science of fossilized chunks of dirt.

  8. Because it’s not based solely on the skeleton. The belief that dinosaurs were reptiles – or related to them – was always based in skeletal morphology but known to be speculation. That’s why they were depicted with scales and reptilian features. Dr. Robert T. Bakker successfully argued that dinosaurs had more in common with birds, so the speculation shifted to feathers and brightly coloured spines. There have been finds of fossils where the skin and feathery appendages have been fossilized in petrified mud flats or pyroclastic flows; it was a big deal in paelontology when the first of these was found as it confirmed Bakker’s hypothesis.
