  1. I came across this story last week…
Tesla Model S plows into a fire truck while using Autopilot
    https://www.theverge.com/2018/1/23/16923800/tesla-firetruck-crash-autopilot-investigation
“The driver of a Tesla Model S who crashed into a fire truck on a California freeway says he was using Autopilot at the time of the accident, and so far, Tesla isn’t refuting this claim.”
I also came across this story earlier this AM which ended on an interesting note….
    https://www.marketwatch.com/story/steve-wozniak-says-he-doesnt-trust-elon-musk-or-tesla-anymore-2018-01-29
“Automakers such as Audi and BMW have surpassed Tesla’s self-driving technology, Wozniak said, and that for everyday driving, his go-to car is now an electric Chevrolet Bolt.”
I believe it’s the second link that points out that Musk predicted a Tesla would successfully drive from coast to coast on autopilot…. by 2017. Just one of dozens of examples of grand claims he has made that turned out to be wrong, wrong, wrong. Shameless bullshitter that he is, Musk has lost credibility with most everyone but his leftist ideology driven sycophants.

  2. Over at Car & Driver, every car they have had for long-term test that was equipped with “adaptive cruise control”, which is a poor man’s auto-pilot, has pitched a fit of random braking on an otherwise empty highway. The linked article describes similar behavior in Tesla’s AutoPilot.
Frankly, unless you plan on sleeping at the wheel, why would you need autopilot?

  3. Oh ye of little faith ! The Book of Elon already explained that little discrepancy … he corrected YOUR erroneous perception that … “Autopilot” means “hands-free” driving. No, no, no … “Autopilot” means “assisted” driving. In other words … tray-tables up, seat-backs to an upright position, eyes forward, seat belts fastened … and NO distracted driving … while on “Autopilot”.
However … since we have become slaves to statistics (aka gawd-damnned LIES) … I would venture to say that the WORST Tesla Autopilot CRASH statistics … are still better than the BEST driving statistics for our newly arrived 3rd world drivers.

  4. I use the active cruise on my Subaru quite often and like it but it can be scary at times as when merging on the west bound 403 near Ford Drive. 3 lanes are merging left onto the QEW so the first lane of the merge may be empty for quite a piece ahead of me while the next 2 left lanes are packed and stopped so I am zipping by these stopped cars at 100kmh, really scary so I knock the cruise off and slow down to a decent speed.

  5. When I was learning how to drive I’d know I was entering danger when my mother would grab the dash and inhale loudly and my Dad, would bark out a “Geezus” or three…

  6. is the auto repair lobby in on this?
feel free to take in a random episode of ‘Mayday’ to see the tragedy that happens when tek no lodge? gee!! is handed the keys to the kingdom.
