An interesting story out of France throws cold water on the #MeToo witch hunt:

France’s most revered actress Catherine Deneuve hit out Tuesday at a new “puritanism” sparked by sexual harassment scandals, declaring that men should be “free to hit on” women.

She was one of around 100 French women writers, performers and academics who wrote an open letter deploring the wave of “denunciations” that has followed claims that Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein raped and sexually assaulted women over decades.

They claimed that the “witch-hunt” that has followed threatens sexual freedom.

    Katy should keep her silence a bit.
    South Park did an episode about men in power cheating, instead of accepting responsibility for their actions they blamed it on aliens.
    Same here, powerful moneyed men are isolated from the real world. They become so catered to and never denied that they forget where the line between right and wrong is.
    Just as reminders Anthony Anderson had rape charges filed and dropped in 2004, payoff must have been enough. Al Gore groped a masseuse and wanted a happy ending. Even the guy from Ain’t it cool, comic and movie geeks, was removed from his position (founder owner) because of his fondling fondness.
    Those are off the top of my head.
    Power corrupts and all that.

  2. Well, I’ll be damned if I every again allow myself to be in a room alone with a woman. There doesn’t have to be an inappropriate act, just an accusation, for irreversible damage, possibly career ending damage, to be done. I’ve heard similar declarations from several other colleagues, many who are decision makers and career makers.
    Tell me, how is this going to advance the progression of the female work force?

  5. A lot of outrage at simple propositioning. Didn’t any of these women have mothers? What exactly does a young actress expect when asked to go to a producers hotel room? I’m sure Weinstein came on to young women because it worked many more times than it didn’t.
    Just like Bill Cosby who convinced 50 women to voluntarily be alone with him, get wasted on drugs, and sleep with him, they obviously had no mothers.

  6. Some good points already, that article raised a bunch of thoughts for me, too.
    First, curse leftards everywhere for their attempts to destroy the English language. The ‘sexual harassment umbrella’ now covers almost everything from misinterpreted, innocent advances to repeated forcible physical rape. Many women spend much time, money and effort on maximizing advances from men, there are multiple multi-billion dollar industries based on this human fact, alone. But, no sane woman wants to be a victim of forced sex and no moral man would ever consider instigating it.
    Stopping ‘casting couch’ sex will be as unattainable as ending prostitution… because that is fundamentally what it is. For every aspiring actress angry about their treatment by a Hollywood power-broker, there are probably a 100 willing to offer up their bodies in the hope of becoming filthy rich and famous…. hell, probably thousands. As Hollywood has proven, we will certainly never run out of lowlife scumbags excited to take advantage of these women.
    Speaking of the ‘human condition’, my life experience has shown me there are almost as many female sexual predators as male. They may not sexually ‘abuse’ their ‘victims'(I have had 3 separate men confide in me they were being beaten by a wife/girlfriend), but use and manipulate them for personal gain, all the same. We all know the term ‘Cougar’, I am wondering what we call similar women who emotionally and financially abuse lonely old men? There must be a term for it because I am starting to suspect that one of the largest and fastest growing ‘industries’ in this small city is ‘housecleaning with a happy ending’. Some may consider this simply an arrangement between consenting adults, except the ‘happy ending’ often ends up being nothing more than a carrot dangled in front of the poor old bastards for months… or years, depending on their finances.
    What witch-hunt? When leftards are pretending to be upset about something but have ZERO plans to solve it moving forward…. they just develop a virtue signalling #HASHTAG campaign and then shout … ‘Hey, look over there, it’s that bastard, Trump!’.
    To that end, I was reminded of the multiple stories I’ve read of the numerous prominent #METOO rape accusers/victims who were snubbed and not even invited to be at the Golden Gob Awards. Disingenuous pricks, them leftards, they only pretend to give a shit about people and USE them to further their own sick agenda.

  11. “Quite a difference between making a pass and groping/rape.” Yes, there is, but these days everything is interpreted as “groping/rape”. It is very easy to twist a casual pass into something sinister. Once claimant against Charlie Rose indicated that “he put his hand on her knee.” Really this is putting a huge pall over relations between the sexes and flirting as it has traditionally been done. Sexual harassment is another matter, but this should be handled by human resources people and other agencies governing workplace behaviour — today it is all just food for Twitter.

  15. Hollywood moves closer to the porn industry every year. The ugly old studio moguls have been boinking the starlets since the silent movie days.
    I don’t support groping or rape -who does? Hollywood has an entire history based on sex and moving sexual boundaries.
    I’m not sympathetic.

    this is actually all old news. in 1995 I was teaching @ a private college when the newly minted manager quietly told the faculty to avoid getting on the elevator alone with a certain female student notorious for making ‘accusations’. after that I always took the stairs. it was after all, only 3 floors.
    some shyt you just never forget eh?
