    The article makes no sense.
    1. “the Ontario government made deals with wind and solar producers, offering long contracts at high prices to compensate for the expense of introducing the new technology. But the intermittent nature of green power means there has to be another layer of generating capacity that can be turned off and on, leading to a system condemned to overcapacity and high cost.”
    2. “Some of the [natural gas] facilities [needed for green power] that we have fixed contracts with and have agreed to take their power under different schemes are only being used a few hours a year”.
    3.”[one milestone toward cheaper energy is] when you hit the price where renewables like wind and solar are cheaper than building new gas or coal plants. The second important milestone is when new renewables become cheaper than operating existing plants…we’re reaching that second moment now.”
    So (1) green energy is intermittent and (2) needs natural gas facilities which are only being used a few hours a year (WTF? – isn’t that a contradiction). Renewables are now cheaper to build (3) than gas or coal AND can be operated more cheaply (3).
    Pittis correctly points out that nuclear energy is the main technology in Ontario (accounting for 71% of our electricity) and suggests that making energy really expensive is an effective alternative to building more infrastructure (and cheaper in the long run!). And this is why peak electricity rates need to be increased by a factor of 4 – so that prices can go down!

  12. You have to laugh at CKOM Saskatoon Radio for a similar idea they have.
    They no longer give an on air description of the person involved in a crime so that the public may be alerted to a possible dangerous offender at large. They give you a web address that gives you the description.
    Explain to me again why people have given up on old line media for information.

  13. Last night Stephen LeDrew had scheduled an appearance on Tucker Carlson Tonight to explain his suspension by CTV last week. He had to cancel because he was told that he would be fired if he ever set foot in a Fox News Studio. The segment is cut off the end of the video for Tucker’s show but appears at the beginning of Hannity.

  14. I found it very poignant ” you must listen to dissent”. It apparently only applies if you agree with the dissent. Because the people that voted for Trump were clearly dissenting. They did it at the ballot box . They dissented with Democrats , the media and in not an insignificant way the Republican party . It is apparent it is to obtuse for progressives who believe you are only dissenting if you destroy , burn or mock something . But keep it up , we will get there .

Perhaps if the careful and WISE balancing of Natural Resource Preservation and (oohhh horrible word …) Exploitation were more expeditiously administrated … then MY President wouldn’t have to “give back” lands that were “stolen” by the Obama Admin.

I LOVE this YOUNG, stripped-down, raw version of White Rabbit and Somebody to Love. Paul Kantner virtually invented psychedelic guitar … with the Doors Robbie Krieger adding his chops. I was 12 years old when this came out and was too sheltered from the SF Love scene to truly appreciate the artistry that it spawned. Man … to go back to those days and turn-up at the Longshoremans hall, Filmore West, Winterland … and live the scene (drug-free of course).

    Also not joining are the United States, Germany and India – all big users of coal. The countries that use a lot of coal are not joining the alliance to end coal use but the countries that don’t use a lot of coal are joining the alliance that Canada recently created.
    Catherine McKenna (aka Climate Barbie) explains to the Canadian Press that she trusts China is committed to climate change BUT their reliance on coal is “just too heavy” for it to join the alliance.
    I can only imagine what would happen if only skinny models joined Weight Watchers.

  31. Mark Campbell and other soldiers like him who lost limbs while serving their country wanted the government to give them the regular scheduled amount for loss plus full pension benefits. While my heart says yeah give them the full pension, it would set a precedent.
    When those who work in a hazardous job are injured to the extent they can no longer work and long term disability is required, the payments into their pension fund stop. At least that is how it works in the mining industry.
    It would be interesting to know why Campbell and his group didn’t go after the government for better long term disability payments?

    what you are ‘missing’ is this: does the ‘vagueness’ of borden’s statement preclude for perpetuity, ANY new measures to assist said wounded VETERANS for as long as needed? forever and a day? hmmm?
    my point still stands, harper was a complete BULLY who instead of taking care of veterans, chose instead to allow them to fend for themselves, hired a phalanx of lawyers to dig up a legal arguement to back up his bullying and indifference. oh it is *very* ‘logical’ arguement to make, it did after all, WORK. so our wounded veterans are yet again left to fend for themselves, thanks to the opposition of the suit, pushed by our very own #1 bully.
    just like lieberals have done since at least the heady days of mckenzie-king.
    if you respect and are grateful to ALL Canada’s military personnel including ALL veterans, you CANNOT at the same time toot your horn for ex-prime minister stephen ‘bully’ harper.

But you cite an article that clearly lays blame on both the Harper and Trudeau governments and then choose only to castigate Harper, one of the best PMs we have had in our lifetime, for the problem.
