As a staunch Conservative, I can say that I have voted for all three parties in my time. I even once went door knocking for the NDP. That was before I woke up and realized the folly of leftist thinking. Anyone who has never voted Conservative is either still quite young or closed-minded and ignorant.
I have had government jobs and also worked in the private sector. My sense is that those who have always worked for government (there are a lot of them in Ottawa) are quite ignorant about how the economy works and the struggle that many people face. There is a community college teacher’s strike in Ontario at the moment. An article in the Ottawa Citizen stated that the teachers are on strike because the colleges keep hiring part timers to save money. Well duh?? Some of these people think that the public purse is bottomless. They should never be given power.
There’s been rumours about Catch for over a year now so this isn’t surprising news. Just add it to the list of closed restos downtown. It won’t be the last. There are more than a few places hanging on by a thread.

It is interesting to note that some who read this here own shares in corporations that get the free money will agree with that since that may improve “shareholders value” for them without any effort of corporation actually producing anything.
Today’s generation that is running things, don’t know what happened in the socialist countries run by communists. They, as always, think that the stories were made up and in any case they can do better. No history in school is better than bad history.

Well as for “time off in lieu”. Any company can stick this where the sun don’t shine…having lost monies by a company ending up shutting down in the past which cost me two days pay. This idea is fine and dandy if you the Employee Agrees to it, but if you don’t then you should be paid OT.
It is YOU the employer who decided that it was in YOUR best interests to have work performed after hours or on a weekend or when said employee is off.
I work OT because I need the money…not because I need time off.
On the other hand, a 25% increase in Holiday pay is pure socialist BS. Not needed whatsoEVER…. and will be a major burden on small business…another kick in the balls by Socialist Minded govt’s.

Recently at an update on wastewater management the attitude of government inspectors was any increased costs to meet increased standards or inspection fees would simply be passed on by contractors . No thought the project would become unviable . Unlike a government job , the customer doesn’t have to cut you a check. And when you basically end up simply working to pay the government , your business is no longer viable . Yet they still believe taxes and fees can be raised at will.

I have a son in the pipefitters union and I don’t think Rachel can count of the members of that union for support. The jobs board is a complete blank. There is NO union jobs available in the pipe trades. It is the first time our son can remember a completely blank jobs board.
