Musk continues his ongoing schtick. Don’t look here, look there. It’s all about deflection from the fact that he can’t produce vehicles nor can he even come close to his ridiculously high target numbers.
Flash and dash, but he’s continuing to fool Wall Street and institutional investors.
Tesla will come crashing down, but it seems the big money backing him, is more interested in wishful thinking than the reality that EVs are very limited in affordability and functionality, compared with our reliable dinosaur burning cars
The only thing he appears to be doing right at the moment is SpaceX. The problem is that he’s obsessed with going to Mars and that’s been scaled down somewhat to include going to the moon.
Maybe he should stick to what he can do well and be content to make money from that.
If they drop the price ISIS will rent it on the cheap regardless of driving performance.
$4.7 billion shareholder’s equity and burning through $.75 billion a year yet a market capitalization of $53 billion. The value on the exchange is 11 times equity with huge losses annual. Something serious wrong here. Retained earnings are negative $3 billion. What keeps it all going is selling new shares that are at best 11 times overpriced and given the losses likely a hundred times overpriced.
It’s a hybrid diesel/electric truck. This is ancient technology begun with submarines waaaay back in the mists of time. Currently (bwaha!) lots and lots of really big construction equipment is diesel/electric. Works awesome. In construction.
For an over-the-road truck, if done properly you might get some mileage advantage in a short trip delivery truck from regenerative braking and engine-off idling at stoplights etc. You can also get away with a smaller diesel engine, because electric provides a ton of torque for starting off from a stop.
In a long-haul vehicle, there’s zero mileage advantage. Weight of batteries and generator, extra complexity, etc. offsets the minimal return from regen braking.
Publicity stunt.
It’s the best thing Musk is good at, maybe the only thing.
Publicity stunts.
The metrics of TSLA are Horrid.
The same big money backing him, and remaining loyal to Musk, also believes in catastrophic man made Glowbull Warming. That’s why we see this ridiculous valuation despite the financials that scream FAILURE. These same people believe that ICE cars will be outlawed. Look at what the Euros and Moonbeam Jerry are doing.

For $200,000, Tesla Will Sell You The ‘World’s Fastest’ Consumer Car https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/for-200-000-tesla-will-sell-you-the-worlds-fastest-consumer-car-1777022
….The updated Roadster will achieve world record speeds, Tesla chief executive Elon Musk said during the event in Los Angeles. The base model can travel from a dead stop to 60 miles per hour in less than two seconds, making it the fastest consumer car on the planet, and the first to break the two-second mark, Musk said. He declined to give the Roadster’s top speed but said it would surpass 250 mph…..
Will be corrected soon.
Classic cult stock destroying wealth while building a bubble. For the lucky individual who can fluke into the right timing, it should be one hell of a lucrative short. The problem is that the entire institutional left are his cult followers.
It’s a full ev truck as I understand it. No ICE.
Isn’t Elon Musk really just a villain in a James Bond movie?
Now Loblaw’s has put in an order for the trucks, without a price tage. Idiots.
See the NP for the story
Elon is pretty good at getting taxpayers $ to subsidize his dreams
The guy is the one of the worlds all time greatest grifters, I’ll give him that. The fact that Tesla is still alive at all is evidence that I have greatly underestimated the number of suckers out there.
As for the truck, beyond the fact his numbers are pure BS, batteries are heavy. In trucking, the earning capacity of the truck is directly proportional to how much you can haul. So now you have a super expensive truck that can haul about a grapefruit before it scales over. The ROI potential here sounds fantastic! Of course, I’m sure rules will be bent so electric trucks could be allowed to haul more than diesels, because road safety is meaningless compared to virtue signalling to our overlords.
musk oil, the active ingredient in snake oil!!!
I sometimes get the impression that Musk makes outlandish claims about performance and recharge times knowing full well he will never be held to account simply because his machines will never be driven in the real world with real world conditions. Saying an all electric truck can run 500 miles on one charge and making a truck that can run 500 miles on one charge are two entirely different matters. Ditto his ‘fastest sports car in the world’ claim.
WOW!! An electric semi that can pull a 80,000 pound load.
Want to know what the 80,000 pound load is? It’s the batteries required to move the tractor and trailer.
So essentially Musk has re-invented the locomotive. Let’s put them to use immediately to pull tanker cars so that we can do away with those leaky pipelines.
An electric long-haul truck?
Pretty soon, we’ll be going back to horses. They’re “long-haul” too, no?
And horses are “organic” and “natural”, too!
And horses are “organic” and “natural”, too!
Plus, there’s a certain by-product that can be likened to his claims, if you get my meaning.
I was reading on Seeking alpha that as many options mature, the management are selling. Also there is a lot of selling going on by institutions including Morgan Stanley which has been managing a lot of their capital raising.. This is a bad sign for the company.
I have only ONE question … for ol’ snakeskin boots, Elon … can his futuristic automated land tanker make it up the Sierra in one charge? Or the grapevine? Does this magic flying truck float up steep grades on the power of fairy farts? Have you “solved” gravity?
Or will you be proposing a whole new infrastructure of low-slope cuts and tunnels through steep terrain. Hey! Maybe you fleece the taxpayers along with (near-dead, baby-boom-boomer) Jerry Brown, and his high-speed* train. Perhaps you can create truck lanes between the train tracks? That way you can help Dianne Feinstein husbands $ Billion dollar contract recipient come up with a way to tunnel through the seismically fractured grapevine mountains. That shouldn’t cost the taxpayers too much $$$ of their fair share of an admission ticket to your show.
Something tells me that once our horrible Co2-spewing trucks are replaced with your magic busses … Amazon Prime deliveries will become 5-days … with no guarantees.
*high speeds may be limited to short bursts between stops, and may be limited by natural phenomenon like zero visibility in the valley fog.
Many critics of the Elon’s truck are missing an important point. It is not meant to deliver oranges or apparel or whatever good may travel the road. It is meant to deliver a fresh load of investment capital into the Tesla coffers, to replenish the ravenous cash consumption that the company has become addicted to. Billions in negative cash flow as far as the eye can see. This truck refreshes the hype show that they depend on to keep the money flowing.
Indeed … imagine if a very clever man built a pyramid (scheme) built with green-virtue signaling products one upon on another. Attracting new investors with each new product launch as the previous products reach market saturation or production impossibilities. Just keep the music going. Just keep making grander and grader pronouncements. It is so easy … because people WANT to BELIEVE in Magic.
Yeah, believe in the magic of a young girl’s soul
Believe in the magic of rock and roll
Believe in the magic that can set you free
Ohh, talking ’bout magic
The new sports car is quite do-able, but the biggest market is fan boys who will never be able to buy one. I drove a 13-second Dodge Stealth back when I owned a 13-second 340 Dart. Despite being as quick or quicker than the 340, the 340 put a way bigger smile on your face. At a 10 mph roll, jumping on the Dart’s loud pedal unleashed a moaning wail from the big ol’ T-quad suckin’ pomeranians up off the sidewalk, the headers and Corvair mufflers dumping barely muffled exhaust just below and behind the seats, the scream of the Goodyears clawing for traction, and the whine of the gearbox. The nose came up to the travel limiters, and the tail kicked slightly to the right. Then you banged second, and did it all again.
Efficient performance? Nope. The Stealth had 400 lbs of extra pork over the Dart, and 40-50 less horsepower. But, it was faster by all measures. But it was like drinking de-alcoholized beer. It was really hard to get the fun meter to come off the peg.
It doesn’t matter what you drive; the fun meter is directly connected to the sound track. That 250 mph Tesla is competing with cars that have a big ol’ fun meter hard wired right to the loud pedal. Pull up a YouTube video of white noise, and then of an in-car video of a Ferrari or. Corvette or anything with a Hemi. Then tell me you think guys with 200k to spend are going to spend it on a car that sounds like anything on the FM scale 400 miles up the Alaska Highway.
That is essentially the Bill Gates playbook.
Of course they can build the sportscar. But…………
Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, Datsun, et al, didnt make their marlet on building sports cars. It was by building affordable grocery getters, then they went after the performance market (kind of).
That’s Tesla’s achilles heel. They still haven’t accomplished the basic need. And they will be beaten down by the established companies, by playing a song and dance game instead
Remember when Musk made his grandiose claims of embarrassing the established car manufacturers’ production times? A year later the arrogant pr*ck actually blamed people for believing him. Anyone would be a fool to believe him now.
Apart from everything already mentioned here, how much of that battery power has to go to powering a compressor for the air brakes? Also, a helluva lot more lights on a rig than a sedan, plus oil and tranny coolers, etc, etc.
Not to mention that semis are heavily worked machines and must be extremely durable, reliable and long-lived. How many unproven technologies will he be introducing in their first roll-out? Imagine the cost and probable frequency of replacing the batteries on one of these. Pretty sad when Musk seems totally clueless to the obvious concerns of potential customers in this market.
Based on the Musk I know, this is probably all smoke and mirrors anyways while he works behind the scenes to get government to pay for a “third rail” embedded in all highways.
Ha, of course an EV wouldn’t require an oil cooler, etc. My point was supposed to be that the extreme workloads these vehicles endure will always require more accessories for reducing heat, friction, etc than a family car. Always proof read BEFORE posting.
“Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, Datsun, et al, didnt make their market on building sports cars.”
Volkswagen committed $40 billion to electric cars this week. Let’s see if Tesla can compete with that. I don’t think the Trump administration will be as generous with the subsidies as the predecessors.
This article is spot on. And long-haulers haul what? 1500 miles?
A government and our money are soon parted.
My bad for missing VW. They led the way with the Beetle, where performance was NOT in the vocabulary. But it established VW as a company.
Musk still doesnt realize this. And likely doesnt care.
As others have said, his real business is subsidy harvesting, not making cars…..
The Musk Truck will be built of space age, space-x, titanium and aluminum … and … even a whole new metal alloy that Musk’s Imagineers (oh, wait, that’s Disney) … I mean metallurgists have invented. The raw materials can only be mined from passing asteroids … but with a little Federal funding … Musk will make this dream come true. Musk is reinventing the economy, reinventing the automobile, reinventing industrial manufacturing, reinventing metallurgy, reinventing battery chemistry, reinventing the UAW, reinventing our entire world. And Musk is even reinventing himself as he is planning to live forever. When his epidermis can no longer tolerate the stretching … he will transplant his brain into a jar of lithium-powered plasma connected to one of those lifelike Japanese sex robots. Then, Elon will be as physically attractive as he is intellectually sexy. Soon, the government will be providing sex robot hosts for every American. Wow! Elon is the greatest man who has ever lived.
