Tesla battery production releases as much carbon dioxide as eight years of gasoline driving
Worse yet is China, the country many environmentalists are currently touting for its massive push toward EVs. Because so much of its electricity is coal fired, its break-even point is 40 mpg (5.9 L/100 km), a number my new 2018 Accord easily achieved on a recent trip to Ottawa. Somehow that doesn’t gel with the narrative being proposed of China as green siren.
In the end, nuclear power is the only reasonable way forward if we’re going to charge our vehicles.

I never considered an electric car until I saw this. The price point will definitely be way above my snack bracket.

“The car has an energy storage system which allows it to rapidly charge and hold more power than a battery.”
“The supercapacitors are made using carbon enabling them to be formed into the car’s body panels as they are smaller and lighter than conventional batteries.”
Nuclear is worse than fossil fuel. What do you do with the spent fuel of each? Nuclear you bury it and hope it never leaks into your water. Fossil fuel you feed to plants and then eat the plants or the animals that eat the plants. Since CO2 is not a driver of climate change the only logical solution is make plant food with your energy.
This is the card I play to environmentalists…
Of course, calling their bluff shuts them down. They don’t want to recognize the limits of wind/solar. It’s all fantasy to them.
Pure ENGO antinuclear drivel. Among other things, you can reprocess it into new fuel and use it again.
This is just another way to enslave people. The government is going to subsidize the shit out of these pieces of junk until enough people buy them. Then they are going to sprinkle government subsidized, ‘free’ charging stations across the country. But at some point the costs… the true costs… are going to catch up to these consumers. Either they are going to all start charging them at home (a necessity) or they will be unable to take advantage of the limited “free” charging stations. And when that happens, the AMPS are going to start flowing and the cha-ching heard across the country will be deafening. It’s going to leave people with these stupid cars that they can’t afford to drive.
Recycling millions upon millions of dead vehicle batteries won’t be pretty either.
It might put a slight dent in the greens’ utopia.
So if Trudeau is fair and considers the upstream and downstream emissions of a Tesla like he does for pipelines and taxes accordingly, Teslas should be unaffordable for Canadians in our lifetime.
Lance, I think you are underestimating the power of wishful thinking; if I wish it, 1 million cars will be charged instantly! Right?
It has been mentioned before, but with “free” charging stations, I could haul my trailer full of batteries, recharge them and then power my home. A minor energy transfer project for an Electrical Engineer with hardware experience, such as I.
Bennett buggies. Trudeau transports.
Yeah, anti nuclear is a religion. It is also difficult to comprehend; there are orders of magnitude difference in the energy available from nuclear vs chemical. Also, orders of magnitude difference in what is left over. All the nuclear waste, to power the entire world for a year, would fit under your coffee table. All the soot, from all the coal, to power the world for a year, would bury China several inches to feet deep. The radioactive impurities in the coal you just burned, contain more potential energy than is available from the simple chemical conversion. e=mc^2 is just such, an enormous, number, … kind of beyond most people. It is like contemplating the infinite.
Not going to happen. Trudeau and his Liberal party are all hypocrites.
Re: Nuclear. ”What do you do with the spent fuel?”
A: Bury it a mile deep in an expired potash mine, and fill the caverns with concrete.
B: Sell it to the Russians so they can manufacture bombs. (Just kidding!!)

That being the case why is every nuclear plant on the planet looking for safe places to bury the waste? Did the engineers in charge of the nuke plants never think of recycling?
The absolute bottom line to energy stability but no-one wants to discuss is zero population growth. As long as population increases the demand for energy will rise. Any politician that believes in immigrating people from countries that cannot sustain their present populations and at the same time advocate for renewable or sustainable energy sources and is committed to reducing energy consumption by curtailing new pipelines and coal mines and imposing carbon taxes are among the biggest cons artists on earth the truly biggest morons on earth are the people that vote for them.
Good Night All!
I think the human population is already on the decline. Simply take a world map and put the replacement rates supplied by the local governments on the map.
In fact, nuclear plants are not looking for safe places to bury their waste. Waste disposal sites already exist.
The biggest obstacle to nuclear power is lawfare by anti-nuke idiots.

Eugenics. Always the same goal, always given different sales pitches.
Nuclear is not the answer.
The world has millenia worth of cheap NG reserves and several millennia more of coal that can be gasified. So 5000 years from now I suspect man will have developed an alternative not based on fission.
Millennia, no, centuries, yes. US annual gas consumption is about 27.5 trillion cubic feet, with reserves of about 390 Tcf. That’s barely over a century, not multiple millennia. You can do better than this, Gord. Without quantification, you’re just another person with an uninformed opinion.
Nuclear IS the real answer.
The problem is that ‘how to solve MMGW?’ is a fake question.
The fact leftards aren’t screaming for nuclear power themselves is ample proof to me that even they don’t truly believe this climate Armageddon fear-mongering bullshit. We have repeatedly called their bluff but they are far too invested in their political narrative now to admit their completely fake science/climate hysteria.
by the time half the world’s population has been destroyed we won’t have to worry about charging anything because it will take all our efforts just to feed ourselves.
It’s because the corollary of their agenda is their anti-capitalist belief, their hatred of BIG OIL.
That’s why facts don5 matter, it’s a cult, the eco-religion
Which is why I will defend my Michelle Obama-pussy’s Garden (apologies Ringo) … with my personal Arsenal. I mean some real Mad Max kind of defense. Get yer hands off my cucumbers!
ms wynnedfarm wants to do a variation of this near bruce nuclear.
scant appearance in the media regarding the question whut ‘appens when the next super sized glacier shows up and turns yet again into an enormous lake covering most of southern ontariowe, providing the mechanism to get the radioactivity into the water from the supposedly ‘safe’ (see no evil) storage facility . . . .
captcha ’29th Lake’ lol !!!
More pointless drivel. The Great Lakes are the first thing to vanish when the glaciers come south and go into the lakes’ basins first. You do understand that glacial advances don’t happen in 10 minutes, right? You do understand that storage will be done in basement rock, right? That means rock far below any area that can conceivably be affected by things like glaciation.
“US annual gas consumption is about 27.5 trillion cubic feet, with reserves of about 390 Tcf. That’s barely over a century, not multiple millennia.”
You might want to brush up on your math. 14 years? But I suspect undiscovered reserves would likely add hundreds of years.
Try again. It’s about a century given the historical growth rate of new exploration.
400 to 600 years of coal kicking around. it will be used when survival becomes necessary.
