Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

And look where it ended up, in Christ Church in Alexandria, an anti-Christian, anti-Biblical pagan cult. It stands to reason that they would be anti-American, too.
Unfortunately that great movement has largely been infiltrated and hijacked by Marxism. Only most of the Catholic Church hiarchy and parishners, most of the Anabaptist Menno Simons descendant splinter denominations, and small splinter groups from the mainline Protestant churches have resisted the “post-modern liberation” theology.

Some argue with considerable merit that Luther was the most important man of the second millenia.
Luther objected to the Catholic practice of indulgence by which you can have you sins forgiven with money. Buy your way into heaven so to speak.
This was a up the pope would not tolerate and Luther was excommunicated.
The Protestant church resulted and continues to expand at the expense of catholicism.
Heh
and all the Christians are so forever forgiving, no sin anywhere, good thing they don’t call it paradise.
Like the son of man said “you who are without sin……”
Of course great self-appointed religionists of today, will have 100’s of ways around it, because they know.
Yeah they have the private line to the big G.
It is amazing how are the people so conceited, without exception, that they will insist that they are right.
Nobody knows, son of man said that himself.
You got a handbook for life.
If you follow the instructions you will be content since there is no other option.
If you don’t there will be wars and killings and mayhem, much like what we live today.
Pretty simple.
There is no preaching here, just thinking.
If you saw Jesus walk out of a brothel would you still follow him?
Not if he was smiling.
Swamp drainers cause so much drama. I think Luther would get Trump and understand viscerally the destructive forces laying siege around him. Luther was a populist after all. Maybe the first western one post Apostle Paul?
Martin Luther film from 1950 with Niall MacGinnis.
Islam, in the form of the Ottoman Empire, helped Protestantism succeed and survive. In the 16th century, much of Europe was dominated by the Holy Roman Empire, which had ample means to crush the Protestant heretics. But the same Catholic empire was also constantly threatened and kept busy by “the Turks” whose own empire-building inadvertently helped the Protestants. “The Turk was the lightning rod that drew off the tempest,” noted J. A. Wylie in his classic, History of Protestantism. “Thus did Christ cover His little flock with the shield of the Moslem.”
More importantly, some early Protestants, desperately seeking religious freedom for themselves, found inspiration for that in the Ottoman Empire, which was then more tolerant to religious plurality than were most Catholic kingdoms. Jean Bodin, himself a Catholic but a critical one, openly admired this fact. “The great empereour of the Turks,” the political philosopher wrote in the 1580s, “detesteth not the straunge religion of others; but to the contrarie permitteth every man to live according to his conscience.” That is why Luther himself had written about Protestants who “want the Turk to come and rule because they think our German people are wild and uncivilized.”

Saved by Grace not by works and, more importantly, not by the sinful practice of indulgences.
When the Lord said “It is finished”, he meant what he said and no work is required for salvation.
My copy should soon be here. Eric Metaxas said he really enjoyed writing the book as he found Martin Luther was a man of humour as well.
some one invented religion, and “religious wars” ensued, and will go on as long as there is religion.
Most religions have nothing to do with deity, they are man constructs, for the consumption of man, god need not apply. And jeezus weeps!!!

“some one invented religion, and “religious wars” ensued, and will go on as long as there is religion.”
If religion is abolished, politicians will figure out some other excuse to make tribes fight each other for some grievance real or imagined.
“War is the continuation of politics by other means.”
Karl von Clausewitz
Atheistic Progressivism is a religion.
So is Anarchism/nihilism.
I became a Lutheran after reading that Martin liked to tip a pint or two with his fellow theological “radicals” … no, as a matter of fact, I could NEVER be a Mormon … although my Mormon friends say I would make a GREAT Mormon … if I would just give up coffee and beer. Ha! Fat chance! And I believe the Magic underwear would chafe my crotch.
Yea, all these silly rules some Christians have about alcohol are in no way biblical. Jesus was not drinking grape juice. Also at those gathering people had lots of fun. They ate and drank and some probably got ripped (the horror!!) haha. The only thing about drinking that is forbidden is the dependancy on it and the drink having control of you and your life. Once in a while getting drunk or just having drinks is not wrong at all.
Religious wars are non such.
In Christianity, it says turn the other cheek, it does not say to be sucker for punishment.
The “religious wars” are in the name of religion, though they actually have nothing to do with religion. It is the religionists that pretend to know that they are superior to others because they have a direct line.
It is what people do with religion not the religion.
You can trust that assorted religionists will show you who to kill and who is the sheep.
Yeah, its what the people do.
As a devout Christian I think the reformation was a good thing insofar as it ended the dictatorial rule of the ‘church’ in what you must or must not believe and encouraged individual thought about your faith rather than simply following a stale ritual that is meaningless to most who follow said ritual. The funny part of this whole thing is that the protestants were the ones who were pro-testifying aka protesting but their ways so often came across negative that the meaning of the word protest became negative. Much the same way that conservatives come across as negative even when they try to be positive in their world view. As a conservative Christian I have the double burden of offering a positive message in a progressive atheistic world.
I go to a non-denominational church with my wife – I am new to the faith.
Proggie fem-cnut/chit-lib politics destroyed my family and turned us against each other. All started 7 years ago when my daughter came out of the closet and said, “I’m gay, I’m proud, and I will be the moral and intellectual leader of this family…” and everyone bowed down to her and her creepy girlfriend. Except me.
They called me every name in the proggie Big Book Of Hell: racist, sexist, misogynist, homophobe, hydrophobe, arachnaphobe etc ad nauseum. 2 years ago I got sick of the names and gave that family the punt and decided I needed to get closer to my Maker, and maybe look after myself for a change. There was a time I wouldn’t have given the church a second glance – but I gave it a shot. Initially I expected hypocrites, shysters and holy rollers but I met the nicest people you could imagine. Some of them went through the same wringer I did. My first exposure to the reformation was last Sunday.
We all lose our way sometimes. I was lost for years amidst those people right in my own home. I hope they find the peace and happiness they seek but I don’t see that happening. From what I’ve seen, the liberals, queers, and other victim groups are obsessed with themselves and unless they can step beyond that – there’s not much out there for them.
Well put.
Thank you for eloquently expressing my SERIOUS beliefs about ML and the Wittenberg door … but I HAD to offer my humorous expression of how God has called us to be IN the world, but not OF the world.
Unfortunately, it seems that one can’t be ordained nowadays unless one accepts Marxism/Leninism/liberation theology as being divine instructions.

The tune was adapted by many other composers. Bach, for example, borrowed it again for some other compositions, including his Christmas Oratorio.
Later, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy used it in one of his symphonies:

Luther and hitler had one thing in common – pathological hatred of Jews
Soli Deo Gloria today! The return to grace alone by faith alone in Christ alone found in Scripture alone and away from the idolatry of Rome.

Matthew 5
11 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
This is the most appropriate music for this anniversary

Yes, about that:

As Luther started his own band (many others followed him) and the Church corrected the error of bought indulgences during the Council of Trent(which re-emerged as “carbon credits”), his exercise in heresy was one of futility.
Thanks for the Christmas lights, Martin.
Hey FR, congrats, you did the right thing. I as well have a daughter who came out and the difference is she was a Christian at a young age, until she went to the UofC. Something there twisted her and unfortunately we didn’t find this out till later.
We still believe in household salvation (Acts 16:31).
So if I may share a word of advice on this new walk, look to Jesus and not man, they will fail you every time.
Read Psalm 91 a lot.
Don’t deny the gifts.
“she was a Christian at a young age, until she went to the UofC. Something there twisted her and unfortunately we didn’t find this out till later.”
Nothing ‘twisted’ her. She was bathed in academia and its scholarly influence and purified of mysticism. May all society be so purged of religion.
The one good thing that Reformation did was set the table for The Enlightenment-which was enough. Other than that, it was a total shi*tshow. Luther hated Jews, and hated many of the new sects his disruption brought about. Europe was wracked with holy wars.
Sorry Patrick, you’re completely wrong. The harm that was done to families is the reason why alcoholic drinks were frowned on. If you had any idea of how many bars every community had back in the late 1800S and how many families lacked the necessities of life because Dad drank all his pay, you would understand. They were poor working men to begin with. The mothers often sent in one or two of the children hoping Dad would give them some money before it was all gone. Picture someone you might have in your family tree suffering like that.
I’ll tell you the story of two female Salvation Army officers who were sent to the city near me back in the 1800s. The streets around City Hall and the market square were made up mainly of bars. The officers held outdoor meetings there in the open air and upon hearing the Word of God preached, hundreds were led by the Holy Spirit to accept Jesus into their hearts. Soon the officers had a congregation of new believers, and only one or possibly two bars were left open. What a difference hearing the Word of God can make.
That doesn’t contradict any of what Patrick said though. There’s nothing in the Bible prohibiting drink.
Your first example is what happens when a person lets drinking control them. Which is not good, like I said. The second example is when people get control of their drinking and live productive lives instead of spending all of their money getting drunk. Just like I said. So I think I was correct in what I was saying. The drink itself wasn’t/isn’t the problem. It’s if you control the drinking or the drinking controls you.
Unme and Patrick:
I disagreed with this statement, Patrick:
“Yea, all these silly rules some Christians have about alcohol are in no way biblical”
They are not “silly” rules when it involves putting temptation in someway’s way which is what is intended by the denominations that do preach abstination.
I have heard that the best wine was served at the beginning and after everyone had enjoyed the best and were feeling good, then the next wine was of lesser quality. We can assume that it was because it was cheaper for the host, but it could possibly have been because they would drink less and not get drunk.
Regardless, as I said, they are not “silly” rules but well thought out for the benefit of all and based on scripture.
Romans 14:21 It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble.
“abstination”? I meant abstinence.
non-denominational, do they follow Christ?
