Unions file injunction against government.
“The Pallister government’s law fundamentally undermines collective bargaining rights, which are protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The law is unfair and it’s unconstitutional,” said Manitoba Federation of Labour President Kevin Rebeck, on behalf of the Partnership to Defend Public Services (PDPS),

That’s always been the inherent flaw in “public sector” unions. Private sector unions and their employers operate under the same legal regime (absent regulatory capture blah blah blah). But the government can always change the very laws it’s operating under. It’s an inherently farcical arrangement.
Just about every level of Canadian government badly needs a Reagan-vs.-the-air-traffic-controllers moment.
Further proof that “public sector unions” (gangsters) are immoral. Public sector unions should be abolished and so should Trudeau’s Soviet Charter.
If a “public service” is “essential”, any right to strike should be automatically removed. If a “public service” is NOT “essential”, it should be outsourced to the private sector.
It seems odd that “Public Service” jobs are not considered belonging to the general public…Nobody should have as Civil service job longer than 5 years, which insures that new employees (public) get access.
BTW: The new Robots don’t require Unions.. coffee breaks, or vacation & retirement perks. Once programmed with correct policy they are ALL consistent..no cheating
JMHO
Just don’t let Alice get near the robots.
Dilbert – Oct 21 2017
Golly Gee, these wonderful “servants of the People” are more than welcome to withdraw their loving labour and take up productive work beneficial to Canada.
No one should be forced to endure the Soul Destroying Career,of public servitude, that has produced these wailing helpless needy freeloaders. .Freedom can be theirs, so too can the pleasure of paying over half of their return on labour to useless obstructionists just like them.
I am sure that persons as “skilled and qualified” as these people claim to be, would be snapped up by private industry at above public payroll rates..
Kleptocracy is so much fun.
Is stealing still a crime? If you did not know you are a thief?
Just like Justin’s People our civil servants do not know that theft and treason are crimes , so they cannot be guilty.
I second that motion.
What section of that dispicable document says that parasites should be served u ntil eternity?
captcha comment … althought tempted, I must admit that einfarht means “one-way” not what it appears to mean :=)
Not having something to bargain about doesn’t take away your right to bargain.
And given that this is a public service union there are probably plenty of other goodies they would like the taxpayer to pay for such as social justice funds or extra vacation days, etc.
One word: extortion.
Notwithstanding.
What the government is doing is wrong. One can not implement “en masse” a non-negotiated contract. The solution is to enter into negotiations one by one with each union group.
The first contract negotiation should be to impose a 50% rollback in benefits. And an additional 1/2 hour of work daily for the same annual salary. And if that is not accepted, they can stand on the picket lines outside all winter.
Make Pearson the faux Noble prize winner and prime minister gave the federal public service the right to collective bargaining.
Things changed at that moment and the country has been held at ransom ever since by the unions.
How about a Partnership to Defend the Public from parasitic scumbags?
Doing the jobs that the private industry does for FREE … or … automates. Non essential nonsense.
When drafting the Charter of Rights, Prune Face Trudeau gave the legislative branch superiority over the judicial branch. The only government to regularly use the Notwithstanding Clause is fascist Quebec when goose stepping on English rights. If you voluntarily give up your power to govern to the courts, don’t come whining to me.
Secondly, if you bargain like wusses, you get the deal you deserve. At the end of collective bargaining is an agreement. If you really don’t agree to a contract – don’t settle. Simply show the unions you have backbone by weathering some year long strikes and you will soon be winning in negotiations.
There is a third thing. Contract everything out if at all reasonable. In Alberta the liquor warehouses and retail stores are private. If the Liquor Board workers went on strike, the consequences would be invisible to the public. Road maintenance and snowplowing is contracted out. Parks are contracted out. A lot of social services are contracted out. A lot of data processing could be contracted out. Just have the senior managers work for the government and they can’t go on strike.
Public unions are basically the Clinton Foundation. Expect Arkancide style suicides to start in the Pallister ranks.
