Despite innovation being rather obviously a multi-faceted issue, it seems like the only pillar they want to lean on is this weird mix of research subsidies embedded in the supercluster notion, which increasingly seems to resemble 1970s-style economic policy only with money flowing to tech and life sciences instead of manufacturing and natural resources.

Your agent finds it difficult to let the surroundings know that they are being taxed way beyond necessity. Surroundings having at least one person living off the said taxes, your agent included.

I remember the 70s and 80s. At the time a manufacturing plant in Cape Breton would be pretty much be paid for with government money. I believe the investment tax credit was 70% of capital cost plus you could negotiate other benefits or grants with the 3 levels of government. Endless companies bit and ended up failing. The unions that drove the steel and coal industries out of Cape Breton ensured that any startups would fail and they all virtually did. A good investment stands on its own. Bombardier makes good use of government money by paying out huge executive bonuses while the company faces a 300% tariff for accepting that money.
It seems that part of the country where companies go to die.
Volvo’s plant in Nova Scotia had a troubled history. The Bricklin was built in New Brunswick and many of us remember how that turned out. AECL’s heavy water plant in Port Hawkesbury was a white elephant.
Guess which political party was in office when these places were in the news?
So. The government is handing out high-tech $$$ … yet are engaged in a low-tech, “Carbon-wasteful” political PR stunt ? Hypocritical doesn’t come close to describing this waste of taxpayer $$. Never heard of teleconferencing ? Same thing with every Apple convention to unveil the latest tweak to your iPhone which makes your last iPhone obsolete. Time to make liberal politicians obsolete.
