Socialism isn’t the problem. People wanting to eat is the problem.
A survey by a top university found the average Venezuelan has lost nine kilogrammes in the past year.
Many families are now forced to scavenge for food in what was once South America’s richest country.
At a soup kitchen run by the Catholic Church in Caracas, there are rarely any leftovers. It only serves 100 children every day, so the kitchen, which runs on donations, is forced to turn people away.
“Every day, more children come. Our crisis is such that, as they say, shame has been forgotten,” Judith Arcia, a cook at the soup kitchen told Al Jazeera.
“People would rather beg for a plate of food for their children, than watch them go hungry.”

I’m not sure if this has been mentioned any where else, but here we go.

The rapid exit of NFL black players from America to the Marxist utopia of Venezuela will reduce the individual share of toilet paper…..Maybe they should take their NFL contracts to use instead
The Average NFL player on Steroids will make a good Soup Kitchen cook, but he will eat enough as 20 children
Look on the bright side….
Rogers wants Green Bay lambeau Field re-named to Lenin Field… The MAPF
(Mothers Against Professional Football) after destroying the NFL will re-vamp themselves into MACA (Mothers against Capitalist America)…
Want to know who they are? (Not actually mothers)…Court fillings by feminist groups against the NFL & corrupt female Judges
Canada imposes sanctions on Venezuela leadership.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/canada-imposes-sanctions-venezuela-leadership-203800093.html
Are these sanctions,a turf war or is it virtue signalling.
“The Average NFL player on Steroids will make a good Soup Kitchen cook, but he will eat enough as 20 children…”
Hmm… yes. Given an estimated cost of one dollar per bowl of soup and an after-tax estimate of $10 million for Colin Kaepernick’s annual salary, he could provide nine million bowls of soup to Venezuelan children this year and still keep a million to live on.
“Are these sanctions,a turf war or is it virtue signalling.”
Of course it’s virtue-signalling. Because that’s what Canadians love to do.
It makes us feel so-o-o good about ourselves and – costs us nothing!
What could be more Canadian than that?
“… he could provide nine million bowls of soup to Venezuelan children this year and still keep a million to live on.”
And that is EXACTLY what he would do with his fortune if not for the hateful white man keeping him down.
Jeez, do I really need to point out that that was hardcore sarcasm? My past experience here tells me…. YES!
BTW, Gitmo inmates like Omar gained an average of 26 lbs (or even kilos–I’ve forgotten which) after initial incarceration.
“Today is the 18th World School Milk Day, celebrating the health benefits of school milk programs. To mark this occasion, I thought it would be fitting to write about the vaso de leche escolar – our version of the school glass of milk.”
“Cáritas Venezuela confirmed that the amount of children with some degree of malnutrition – in the poorest parishes of the states covered by the study –, climbed from 54% to 68% between April and August; the trend tripled in four months. A larger number of malnutrition cases in all three forms, acute, moderate and severe, was registered. Those figures surpass the severity threshold that defines a crisis and push us closer to a food emergency.”
What really worries me is that chavistas try to sell the idea that this is all part of a plan to discredit the revolution.”
… from the first and next to last paragraphs.
https://www.caracaschronicles.com/2017/09/27/a-glass-of-milk/
“The Revolution” in Venezuela sees the problems of malnutrition being reported in the news, as a means to simply criticise what the gov’t is aiming to do… not as though “the people” are actually hungry. It’s lunacy.
and I know people living in Venezuela, still.
https://dolartoday.com +27,000. : 1 US dollar.
Yeah.
It’s everybody else’s fault, the idiot rulers, although some would call them clever in the sense of Hillary Clinton, are well fed, what the hell is the problem, much like another socialist paradise rulers in the People’s Republic of Korea, being here very loose with words using “People’s”.
All the hungry and poor and dying of hunger are just collateral damage to the higher end of socialist paradise.
You see, at the end of the road, with all the dead and imprisoned there will be paradise for those that will survive. That is the real theory, you can look it up in the writings of the communist giants like certain Mao.
Remember?….maybe not. There was a time when in China, they built furnaces in every little town where they smelted iron. It does not matter what you think, they knew they were right.
To a socialist idiot it matters not what happens, it’s the idiotic idea they can’t get away from, they can’t admit to themselves let alone to the world that they are wrong.
If they are wrong once, there is a very good chance that they are wrong with most if not everything their corrupt minds come up with.
Yeah, socialist paradise.
Have you hear of it?
“Sometimes my wife and I do without food so at least the children can eat twice a day,” a parent told Al Jazeera.
I often wonder what the people here are willing to do without to feed their kids?? Not much I fear.
I get calls on an almost weekly basis asking for donations to help the school lunch programs so little Johnny or Jacquie can eat and learn.
Go to Hell. You made ’em and if you cannot or will not give up your ifone or netfliks or whatever to feed your own kids, surrender them – don’t count on me! I have more than enough to care for in my life.
It says somewhere in Matthew that ‘children are a gift from God’. You have been given the gift. They are yours to care for and to nurture!
Worse than all of this …
What happens when the Socialist government decides that DEATH by starvation is acceptable collateral damage in the WAR against Global Warming ? When the government decrees that the planet is being “saved” with each and every DEATH of a carbon consumer ? When DEATHS of the poor is killing (so to speak) two birds with one stone ? That a little “thinning of the herd” is “natural” ? When death by starvation becomes a government sanctioned event ?
And … can someone do the math for me ? How many stone is nine kilogrammes ?
“How many stone is nine kilogrammes ?”
Almost one stone six pounds.
For what it’s worth … here are GoFundMe options for donating to needy Venezuelans …
https://www.gofundme.com/charity-fundraising?term=Venezuela&country=US
Perhaps I can find one that will clearly indicate the source of the donation came from a proud Capitalist !
I think that if GoFundMe finds a way to get that money into Venezuela, it’ll be exchanged at the official gov’t rate of about 8:1 USA dollars. Perhaps 6:1 Canadian dollars… It depends, there are 3 “official” rates, depending on who’s exchanging or what you’re buying.
And there isn’t anything available to eat at that rate. Even in the gov’t stores every food item is rationed, you must show your gov’t ID number so that if you were buying and selling to your impoverished neighbor, the gov’t would know you’re a black market food seller and you can expect to have to answer for that.
The real rate, that is the rate that’s given to “actual paper money” (not electronic money transfer) that’s exchangeable at the Cucata Colombia border crossing for anything not available in gov’t stores, is at +27,000 : 1 USA dollars. It was 25,000 : 1 last friday.
https://dolartoday.com
So the GoFundMe method is almost useless for this cause as all electronic transfer of money is with gov’t approval…
When I last spoke to people I know in Venezuela about the (real) exchange rate, they were working for about $30 USA / month. Which just barely covered the cost of food at a gov’t operated food store. “Mercal” I think…
Nice analysis. Some (if not most) of these funds are being operated by expats who are literally buying the food and supplies HERE, filling suitcases, and flying them into Caracas. However, in reading through the pages … I learn that govt. officials are inspecting the luggage and requiring bribes in the form of taking what they want out of the suitcases. Welcome to the Soviet-styled black market of “illicit” (non-government sanctioned) goods.
Exactly. All luggage is x-rayed, not really for what our North American view of what is contraband.
I have nothing positive to say here about this… I’ve sent cash (really) and it’s gotten through in the past, 100% of the times. I’ve heard recently that the method I used isn’t secure anymore. And no gringos want to be caught exchanging money outside of the government channel.
There is a healthy exchange of goods between San Cristobal Venezuela and Cucata Colombia, it’s about 40 kilometres.
This crossing was closed for a couple of years recently, but it’s only easy to travel between these 2 with an Andean region passport. For Canadians / Americans, I think it’d be a nightmare of small bribes.
Im gonna send ms n klein a followup email whut she thinks of the great-leap-somewhere situation in her fav 3rd world shythole
MP Peter Kent put a motion before the house regarding Venezuala. Green and NDP vote against it.
https://twitter.com/MichelleRempel/status/913173815466872838
Text of the Motion
That, in the opinion of the House, the extreme socialist policies and corruption of President Nicolas Maduro and his predecessor President Hugo Chavez have imposed considerable suffering on the people of Venezuela and therefore the House call upon the government to: (a) develop a plan to provide humanitarian aid directly to Venezuela’s people, particularly with respect to alleviating the severe shortages of food and medical supplies; (b) condemn the continued unjust imprisonment and treatment of political opponents who, as reported by Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States on March 14, 2017, “fear repression, torture, and even death”; (c) call upon the Government of Venezuela to respect the right of the people of Venezuela to hold a free and fair referendum to restore democratic rule in their country; and (d) recognize that Canada’s foreign policy should always be rooted in protecting and promoting freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
Virtue signaling… no, don’t think so. Or, if so, still the right thing to do.
It’s to prevent these Venezuelan officials from stashing money and family and relatives in stable and secure places where they can flee to when the shit really hits the fan. EVERY country should make it clear that they will find no sanctuary. No where they can stash money. No where they or their spawn can live large off of the plunder they took from the country of Venezuela.
and when the BBC has noticed that socialism isn’t working out, you know it’s too big to ignore:

keep voting for socialists, ie liberals ndp and green, we will be able to catch up to Venezuela.
