More Pavilions At Volkfest

The world needs more Hungary;

[…] speaking at a press conference in Warsaw alongside Polish prime minister Beata Szydlo, Mr Orban said that Poland and Hungary would not change tack.
“We accept that some countries have become immigrant countries. But we don’t want to be [like] them and we want them to accept this. But they want us to become like them. We don’t want a mixed population, as has been created in the countries to the west of us. We are looking for different solutions and please respect it,” he said.
The outspoken Hungarian premier also took the EU to task for its criticism of Poland over the ruling Law and Justice party’s contentious attempts to overhaul the judicial system, which critics fret will undermine Polish democracy.
“The EU cannot threaten Poland and question its rule of law. This is a lack of respect. It looks like an inquisition. There is no place for a political inquisition in the EU. Hungary won’t support it,” he said.

  1. Funny that paywall thing.
London Times is the same and I don’t miss any of their writers either (Well Melanie Philips but then she also writes for the Jerusalem Post so read anything worthwhile there).
Just for the record I have no problem paying for things including news and comment if in good faith they really were attempting to be non-partisan after all, we all have to make a living. I do sometimes wonder how their business model for paid content is looking ? My guess is, not as good as Mr Steyn or Rebel or even those free sites like Breitbart.

  2. Good for these guys. They know all too well what it was like to live under an all-powerful, oppressive, remote, central government and they’re not interested in doing it all over again. And the more I think about it, Washington DC isn’t all that different.

  3. If Hungary insists on staying Hungarian and Poland insists on staying Polish, that’s two countries in Europe that might be worth visiting.

  4. Anybody still remember when Hungary was a totalitarian Communist state, and the Iron Curtain was going to end Humanity once and for all?
It never fails to give me a shiver when I see some formerly Commie nation sticking up for its citizens against the EU. What the H#ll have we come to?

  5. Orban expresses a nation-wide sentiment in Hungary. My Hungarian born wife who tends to lean left politically is 100% in agreement with Orban on immigration.

  6. “Anybody still remember when Hungary was a totalitarian Communist state, and the Iron Curtain was going to end Humanity once and for all?
I remember. When I was a teen, our new neighbours who lived across the back alley(husband, wife, son) had all had a very difficult time escaping from Hungary to freedom the year before they arrived. The son was one of my best friends. He told us exactly what life had been like in Hungary and how dangerous it had been for them to escape to Canada.

  7. You hit the nail on the head.
After @30 years or so, of the communist diktat directed by the Soviet Union, the countries of central Europe, (it is central not eastern) don’t need, don’t want, are not interested in another diktat from pretend benevolent socialist/fascist oligarchs of the European Union.
If you think that Washington is a swamp that needs to be cleaned up, you ain’t seen the bureaucratic cesspool that is the European Union.
If there is anywhere lower rock bottom mud hole than that, it will surely collapse.
No wonder the British got out, though it may not save them from becoming a sharia ruled caliphate.

  8. As I read in the Guardian, yesterday … “… Globalization … hasn’t addressed old grievances”
So … Poland and Hungary are (according to the Guardian) simply clinging to old grievances. Yep, their desire to protect their unique cultures and history is reduced to old grievances. Yep, they still remember the old grievance of the Soviet Union usurping their culture into an amalgamated UNION of Soviet States.
I say … vive old grievances!!!!!!!!!!

  9. “But we don’t want to be [like] them and we want them to accept this. ”
LOL instead you’ll become a depopulated despotic backwater, which you kind of already are. Hungary needs all the migrants it can get because its population is declining, and has no right to turn away immigrants because it wants to be a club for Hungarians. Orban is a despot, and he’s taking Hungary to hell. If he hates the EU so much, why doesn’t he leave it? Subsidies.
