Canada’s Competition Bureau, an arm’s length agency funded by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government to the tune of almost $50 million annually, investigated three organizations accused of denying mainstream climate science for over a year, following a complaint from an environmental group.
The bureau discontinued its 14-month probe in June, citing “available evidence, the assessment of the facts in this case, and to ensure the effective allocation of limited resources”, according to Josephine A.L. Palumbo, Deputy Commissioner of Competition, Deceptive Marketing Practices Directorate.
But it will re-open its investigation should it receive relevant new information from the public.

Everybody should know by now that it a government creates an agency, that is another cancer on the society.
An agency of government, however irrelevant, useless, unproductive,…. has nowhere to go but grow with self important pronouncements.
It will grow fat, hiring more and more people so those already there, to justify their existence, have somebody to order around.
And so on and so on,……never ending cancer until it kills those that they extort the supply money, the actual wealth producing they like to call “middleclass”.

I think both sides overestimate the impact of this type of advertising. I doubt it influences many people. As such there’s no need for the catastrophic global warming side to harass or interfere with the free speech of the skeptical side. It actually makes the CAGW side look weaker if they think their arguments cannot withstand scrutiny. The government and it’s agencies should certainly not get involved.
What is a bigger threat to CAGW is the red team-blue team proposal from the new EPA chief. We know from past debates that the skeptical/lukewarmers side always changes more minds than the CAGW side, even with hostile crowds. If the EPA follows through with a series of scientific debates with experts from both sides it may significantly erode support for climate change policies. I’d expect liberals/progressives on the left and business class environmententalists on the right will fight tooth and nail to prevent those debates. The left’s commitment to science and fact based policy is superficial at best.
I’m sure our pipsqueak prime minister will find a way to turn “climate change denial” into an anti-Islamic or anti-LGBTQLMNOPXYZ issue.

For the federal government to be found in violation of the Charter Right to Free Expression, that makes the gov’t. liable to be sued for doing so.
It would also force the government to defend it’s policy publicly in court. This makes it more likely to be covered by more of the MSM and talk radio.
This is a clear case of the suppression of political speech, of government abuse of power to prohibit free political debate.
