“Ve Haff Ways Of Making You Green”

Financial Post;

While the notion of mandatory energy audits is just at the lobbying stage nationally, for Ontario residents it is soon to become a harsh reality. As laid out in the province’s current climate change plan, beginning in 2019: “energy audits [will] be required before a new or existing single-family home can be listed for sale, and the energy rating will be included in the real estate listing.”

  1. The STATE needs to butt-out of PRIVATE transactions between buyer and seller. Any reasonable buyer requires a Home-inspection report as part of the due-diligence of their purchase. The same as any ‘smart’ buyer requires prior to purchasing a used car. Any decent pre-purchase inspections should require a rudimentary energy audit. I would also never purchase a home without enquiring about the average Utility costs … winter and summer.
The fundamental tenet of Capitalism is … caveat emptor.
The STATE needs to mind its own business, and get their nose out of private enterprise.

  2. Energy Nazis!
If I don’t like my energy bill, then I’ll add another natural gas fireplace. Or heavens have an actual WOOD BURNING fireplace. I’ve already beefed up the attic insulation.
These ‘carbon free’ freaks need to be given a little Canadian version of ‘freezing in Stalingrad’ within hailing distance of the oilfields.
I’m about half way through my LED lighting conversion, so I don’t need some punk ass freaks telling me how to save energy when the free market can do a much better job.
GO AWAY MORONS, with my physics degree, I can do a better job myself without your ‘klepto-crat help’.

Or you could ask to see the heating, cooling and electricity bills.”
Which any rational buyer has been doing for decades anyway. Good point, Steve.
At this point I have zero empathy for Ont. voters

  4. LED lighting is only a net energy benefit in the summer. In winter, the excess heat from fluorescent and incandescent bulbs heats your house and offsets your furnace fuel (either gas or oil).

  5. But that in no way makes up for the vastly inflated electricity tiered pricing in BC. (Or for that matter, ask the electrical clowns running Ontario Hydro; read epic $ billions mismanagement) Carbon heating is still orders of magnitude cheaper.

  6. Spent the past 2+ weeks down in South Carolina looking at real estate for our relocation. We’re outta here. Our 2016 income tax rate was 44% …in SC it would be 21% according to our U.S. tax guy. We’re dual citizens, legal in both countries. Canada will soon go from hogging 44% of my 2016 income (and I’m RETIRED! …how the hell much would they take if I was making serious money?) to getting 0% of my 2018 income.
Buh bye, my much-loved home and native land …great place, mostly great people, HIDEOUSLY GREEDY governments.

  7. Tiered energy pricing … ugggh … trust me … PG&E here in N.CA gouges the HELL out of everyone with their pricing tiers. Tiered pricing is the perfect example of the Eco-left partnering with corporate interests to PUNISH the consumer. PG&E was given carte blanche to RAPE its ratepayers in the name of … connnnn-serrrr-vaaaaaa-shun. PG&E is HAPPY to collect windfall $$$$ from the consumer in the name of all things “green”. Why not?! It’s a license to STEAL … and then spend it $$$ on a lame PR campaign to tell rate payers how to connnnn-ser-vvvvvvvve. Hey PG&E! How about building a new power plant if there is increased demand?! And the CA PUC … which is supposed to PROTECT the Consumer … goes along with the “green” scam … because it’s “good for the environment. Give me a break.

  8. “And this will reduce Green House Gas emissions by how much exactly?”
To the penny the same amount as the carbon tax.

  9. “I’m about half way through my LED lighting conversion”
I’ve barely touched my carton of mixed 60 and 100 watt incandescents.

  10. This is a job creation strategy.
In the early 90’s when the safety industry was gaining traction, I jumped on board. As a consultant, one could charge a company $500/day to tell them their employees should wear a hard hat and safety boots.
Energy auditor. A new career path.

  11. I would like the FU**ING bureaucras to stay the HE** out of my life. It’s like many have said, buyers can see the hydro, gas and propane costs they will tell you either the house is sound or not. We can take care of ourselves…govt regulations have to stop!!! GET A LIFE TRUDEAU!!

  12. I’m with you. I find LED’s give off a very harsh light. A friend of mine with eye issues cannot tolerate them. I am wondering if down the line we will see an increased number of people with eye damage due to LED’s.

  13. Ontario has promised to pay the full cost of these audits: an expense of approximately $125-million per year. But this commitment only covers the first two years of the program. Anyone planning to sell their house after 2020 may end up having to shoulder the full or partial cost. That’s because the money to cover these free audits is supposed to come from the province’s share of income taxed from the province’s cap-and-trade program.
Another tax payer funded scam for those who use the government to make their living.
Liberalism is a parasitic infestation of the public purse justified by virtue signaling.

  15. Damn, I’m screwed. I have electric baseboard heat and its bankrupting me in Ontariowe.
I told the census idiots to get lost when they came and any govt energy auditors will get the same treatment.

  16. The Ontario Liberals are putting the infrastructure in place to impose onerous Green regulations on home owners in the future. Then, once again, they will initially offer to pay for any renovations required to meet their standards. And, being approximately the dumbest people on the planet, Ontarians will bend over once again. Eventually all that will be left is the facade of ownership while the government will be in complete control. That used to be called fascism. Now it is called Liberalism.

  17. The Ontario Liberal government will pay the full $125 million cost of the audits, eh? From where? Oh, yeah, from the new Liberal carbon tax revenue imposed on the tax paying public. We, not the fairies and elves, are paying for this folks. We are. The Ontario Liberals also just announced they are going to give away 100,000 new state of the art thermostats to this same unthinking herd of deluded Liberal cows …. sorry … voters.
The carbon tax will not save the earth, but it sure as Hades creates a giant Liberal slush fund to promote themselves as progressive. Virtually signalling at its best. The Ontario voting herd, meanwhile, continues to chew contentedly on its Liberal vote bribing cud. MOOOOOOO……
