Poles don’t want to be Merkelized – they like being Poles. The Germans and French like the Hitler act, telling other countries what to do. Why didn’t they just leave the European Community as a trade group instead of a self hating fascist union?
Donald Tusk is a pro Euro apparatchik (also a former Polish PM). His party held the presidency and parliament until the last elections when they were soundly defeated. He hates the current Polish leadership and has been consistently undermining Polish interests as a result.
This is not to say that attitudes towards EU haven’t shifted in Poland, but realistically they are very far from exiting EU… for now at least.
Poland knows the Soviet reality. Germany lives through exports. Russia is a source for cheap materials and labor. Russia is also a German export market. Lots of reasons for diverging national interests.
German and American interests have been diverging long before Trump. Germany is one of the worst Euro nations for off loading their military responsibilities on the USA. The Russians are actively subverting the Ukraine and most of Nato is willfully looking the other way. I
have little respect for Euros and certainly do not want to see Canadians putting themselves on the line for them ever again.
The EU is one of the least of Poland’s problems (and the source of many subsidies). The current Polish government is dangerously illiberal and is attempting to subvert the judiciary’s independence with ‘reforms’. Thankfully there is a push-back happening. Interestingly, unlike the other elected fascists in the neighborhood such as the ones in power over Hungary, Poland’s government loathes Russia.

Poland wasn’t. Canada’s strong attachment to Britain resulted in Canada’s involvement in WW2. As you mentioned, Poland was used by the UK.
The parallels between Poland and Quebec are only skin deep. Yep Germans have to pay for Poland. When you run a multinational empire and set every rule in order to benefit domestic industry and prevent provinces in the peripheries from competing with the capital you end up paying for those provinces. On top of it when your producers in the capital increasingly depend on consumers in the peripheries you loose ability to economically punish the peripheries. The absurdity of EU is that it subverts interests of both agents in order to benefit globalist elite. In the long run both Poland and Germany would better off with less regulations, healthy free trade and no subsidies.

Wrong again. For the first time in history polish supreme court judges will be appointed by elected officials. This was a part of the core of PiS electoral platform and one of the key reasons for their success.
