  1. I wonder how much rental rates have changed for commercial space inside and outside the Seattle city limits? I think I know which one is more valuable this year and next.

  2. I have discussed the minimum wage with many people. Most seem to economic illiterates. They fail to realize that one must produce a specific value for the wage paid it just cannot be increased without a corresponding increase in value and volume. They also fail to realize that the minimum is always the bottom not matter how high socialists wish to force it, that costs rise in relation to any increase in wages. In a word, most minimum wage supporters are stupid. Ask them why 15 dollars or why not 25 dollars or even 50 dollars an hour?

  3. But the leftists will simply DENY the TRUTH of this study … it’s what they do. The left STILL thinks that Obamakkare is the greatest legislation which has transformed American lives for the better.

  4. And while you are drafting legislation to kill jobs, don’t forget to kill incentive to better one’s situation, as well. Saw a news headline the other day bemoaning the fact that in no state in the US can one afford a 2 bedroom apartment on a minimum wage job. Well, do something to make your hours of work worth more!
But that would imply individual responsibility for one’s circumstances ….. something no leftie could countenance.

  5. Talking about denial, the link is to the Washington Post, and the comments by the mostly lefty readership are hilarious. They simply reflect zero understanding of basic economics. One responder is so denialist that he calls for a law to forbid reports of flawed studies (that is, studies whose conclusions are in conflict with his liberal faith) which “mislead people.”

  6. The small business owners I know aren’t that concerned about minimum-wage workers: they generally don’t have any. Their concern is the pressure they face to raise the wages of current workers who are above minimum wage so they maintain the gap they currently have. This is where unaffordability happens, and businesses close.

  7. my first full time salaried job was as a mainframe computer operator (DEC-10, CDC 6400, Burroughs 6700).
I started at the very humble 1.80 an hour.
that’s right, a buck eighty. soon after I concluded it was up to ME to ‘do something’ to bring that figure up, not being a unionboy. So I did. I embarked on a protracted process of getting a degree in computer science, pouring over the operations manuals during slow periods when the rest of the crew played cards, quizzing the systems analysts on ‘how does that work’.
it paid off. I had my first home at 27 yrs of age, supporting a family and then 30 years later, retired early.
now I get to blog and poke fun at the present collection of leftist graspers and whiners.
oh, p.s., one of the very first post secondary courses I took, before I even narrowed down my major, were economics which introduced me to, for instance, the concepts of opportunity cost, economies of scale and marginal returns.

  8. The comments posted at the link decry this article as “bull-merde” and lies by the right, and they claim not ONE job was lost by the increase in the minimum wage.
One bright fellow opined that if a worker received a $3/hr wage increase, well,he flips 30 burgers and hour so that’s only 10 cents a burger and there won’t be any need to raise the prices as everyone can survive a 10 cent cut on their profits.
As a former employer,it makes me want to weep.
Wtf are they teaching in school these days, and I don’t mean university, but high school, grade school, doesn’t anyone teach the basics of economics;”if Johnny has a lemonade stand and his lemonade costs ten cents a glass to produce and he sells 100 glasses a day at 15 cents a glass, what will his profit be,and can he afford to hire his friend Joey at $15/hour?”
    My f***ing oath!
NDP economics: of course he can afford to pay Joey $15/hr for 8 hours a a day,as a corporation such as Johnny’s Lemonade Stand has a bottomless pit of money.

  9. That’s why we should start pushing them to actually do that. I would LOVE to sit back and watch the socialist paradise of Toronto pass a $100 or $500 minimum wage law. I would LOVE yo watch Vancouver, or Edmonton, or any other of the socialist crap holes of Canada literally shoot themselves in the face. And I would not let them stop.
    Let’s cloward piven them

  10. When first elected the new NDP government in Alberta pointed to the “success” stories coming out of places like Seattle and San Francisco to justify their policy of raising the minimum wage to $15/hr, even though both those cities had not yet fully implemented the minimum wage hike. Interestingly one of the first reports I saw coming from the Seattle media was about a shortage of workers due to minimum wage earners forgoing their new prosperity by asking for their hours to be cut back. The Reason? They didn’t want their new higher earned income reducing the money they get for free. AKA welfare.
