  1. there really is no cure for stupid. I wonder will they stop taking their taxes as well?

  2. The ‘obvious’ (to them) ‘solution’ will be to immediately raise the property taxes of those who collectively elected them. A win/win.

  3. “We can rest assured in Portland that our money won’t be funding prisons, pipelines, and the occupation of Palestine,” Shank added.
They’re going to stop funding the occupation of “Palestine”? How, by kicking the Palestinians out of Israel?
    Damn fools.

  4. Oh man! Watching the economic suicide on the left is thrilling. Portland will slip into decline … Socialist cities ALWAYS fall apart.

  5. “This is a historic vote that makes Portland a national leader in recognizing the interconnectedness of the harm that is done to our communities by corporations in the name of the bottom line,” said Maxine Fookson.
And here is where you insert the requisite word play on the surname Fookson.

  6. This will free up a lot of money to invest in wind and solar power. If they can get government subsidies they stand an excellent chance of making a bundle on renewables.

  7. In a somewhat related story … I spoke earlier this week about my wife’s STRS (CA State Teachers Retirement System) Retirement Fund FAIL. Seems as though the Retirement Fund will be completely out of money in the year 2036 at their current burn rate. At the same time they reported a net gain of 1.4% in 2016. I read that figure and spit out my coffee. WHAT ? The STRS earned ONLY a paltry 1.4% rate of return in 2016 !! The DOW closed +13.5% in 2016 … The NASDAQ + 9.4% in 2016. Their paltry earnings suggest something more sinister than simple incompetency … it suggests … “divestment” … the oh so popular game that liberal extremists play. Don’t like Israel’s treatment of “The Palestinians” … “divest” all investments in Joo Companies. Don’t like fossil fuels … Dump EXXON. Dont like “big” tobacco ? Goodbye Phillip Morris. Don’t like unisex bathrooms ? DIVESSSSSSST !!!! …. that’ll SHOW all those “offensive” corporations … won’t it ? No … actually it just makes you stupid … and BROKE. Leftism is a mental disorder.

  8. Only Portland resident I know is a 72-year-old brother of a gal I know.
He hates Trump, loves Bernie Sanders and not surprisingly, is a retired teacher.
Allow me to fine-tune that last statement. He’s absolutely deranged about Trump.
Somehow, I’m not surprised at this news.

  9. “This is a win,” Hyung Nam, then a member of the SRIC, told The Oregonian. “The city is actually willing to lose money to their budget because they want to get out of these big corporate nightmares,” Nam said.

A win for the socialists. A loss for the taxpayer. But who cares about money when you can bask in your own progressive self-righteousness?
Such statements also send out a message – corporations are not welcome in Portland. If you’re considering where to locate your corporate headquarters, Portland might not be the best option.

  10. Portland the city where all the hippies with money fled to after they finally got tired of the “stink & piss” of San Francisco – then started it all over again.

  11. [according to a member of] the radical left-wing group Enlace, which describes itself as an “international multiracial multisector alliance that does capacity-building training and engages in strategic campaigning for the self-determination of the working people.”
I’m certain I don’t know what that even means.

  12. About time. I hope they stop using goods and services provided by corporations, too.

  13. Oreygone is the ORIGINAL victim of “Californication” … I sent them TWO of my former next-door neighbors … ha ha ha … good riddance. Esp. the one who complained, incessantly, during my remodel. Bi+ch !!

  14. I’m certain I don’t know what that even means.
How about “smug, self-satisfied freeloaders”? The rest of the flummery in that description can be skipped.

  15. They should go one step further and the city of Portland should use homemade heavy equipment.
