Fox News is a business he should not be in, he had told people before, despite its major contribution to 21st Century Fox’s bottom line –20 percent of its profits came from Fox News last year, the biggest-earning division in the company. Presumably, he meant the in-your-face world of conservative cable news with its mega personalities. Indeed, James regarded many of the people at Fox News as thuggish Neanderthals and said he was embarrassed to be in the same company with them.

Fox has been moving to the dark side for some time. Where I live, you have to pay for the ‘news package’ to receive Fox News. We dropped the “news package’ months ago. Fox’s leftward drift was obvious. Getting any news or information from anywhere on TeeVee today would suggest you are a moron.
So, what’s the risk in being more like CNN or LSDNBC? I mean HEY! Warm and Fuzzy is all the rage!

WTF???? The network was cornered like a dog after its two top people (Ailes, O’Reilly) racked up accusation after accusation of sexual misconduct. That’s the bottom line here. If Fox didn’t act, every Murdoch operation was opened up to ton of sexual misconduct lawsuits, if not worse.
Will there be a “shift to the left”? Dunno. Was this “about Trump”? Probably not. Would none of this have happened if sexual harassment didn’t happen (and remember, outside investigations verified it)? No, it would not have happened.
And quite frankly, Fox News production values have been bad for a long time. Hopefully that changes too.

FOX is DEAD to me. Although I still like Tucker Carlson. And I am not a fan, nor ever have been of O’Reilly. He is far too smug and self-aggrandizing for me … same as with Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. But this EXCUSE to fire him is nothing but strategery gone bad.

I wonder if Eric and Donald Jr., are watching? There are a bunch of conservative leaning niche media folks out there. NRA TV, Steyn, Levin TV, and even the unstable ones like Glenn Beck and the Infowar blowhard. Everyone of them is able to see the vacuum left by Fox trying to become another liberal outlet like CNN or MSNBC. They can see the opportunity. But none of them have the heft, and some have a lot of baggage.
A well financed, disciplined, and marketed conservative media outlet could clean up. Just like Fox News did in the 2000’s.

Neither “outside investigation” interviewed either Ailes or O’Reilly. Said “outside investigations” were run by a partisan democrat firm hired by Murdoch the younger. Neither Ailes or O’Reilly has been found guilty of sexual harassment–settling a lawsuit is not an admission of guilt. Bill Clinton managed to hang on to the presidency despite being “cornered like a dog” for sexual misconduct.
As for this being about Trump, the left has been going at any media outlet that is or appears to be on the right. It is their objective to ensure that there is no seemingly sympathetic channel for either a conservative or populist voice.

The “lefty news” is a very crowded field. If approximately 50% of Americans are conservative, owning the only real right leaning news station is brilliant. Let CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS and MSNBC fight over what is little more than 24/7 Trump bashing.
I always liked O’Reilly’s opening talking point segment as he summed things up nicely. But he was an arrogant interviewer and always cut people off, even when they were agreeable. Plus the analysts he brought on the show were lame. Carlson has a more interesting gig. Bring on the extreme left and let them talk. The more they talk they more right leaning you want to go.
No doubt he will write a book.

Fox was never a ‘right wing’ news network. It always claimed to be ‘fair and balanced’ and it was.
By giving both sides it only looked right wing in comparison to all the other left wing news networks who weren’t fair or balanced.
TV is made for spectacle. Big sports, national political conventions and cheap mindless entertainment. Turn on you set Sunday mornings and settle in for mind blowing stupidity. Show after show of sameness. No thinking required.
After Clinton the public became increasingly intolerant of powerful men preying on subordinates. TV is gradually being replaced by blogs.

The only reason we watched Fox was for O’Reilly. He had so much variety on his show, such as Watter’s World. He also raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for veterans, and he really had their back if they got into a difficult situation, such as being held in jail in Mexico. Also wrote a book “Give Please a Chance” which sold thousands of copies, and every cent went to help children. As far as I am concerned, he was a good guy, and women these days seem to take offense at everything, even get mad at a blonde joke. I always looked forward to the O”Reilly show and I will really miss it.

In today’s hyper politically-correct world, almost any unwanted banter can be inferred as ‘sexual harassment’. Without knowing specifically what was stated in it’s full context, then we’re mostly dealing with provocative hearsay to flog someone’s agenda.
Many of the commenters above didn’t really like O Reilly, or like him all that much. I’d probably put myself somewhere in that continuum. Maybe a little more fond of BOR than some above,…but it is not relevant. How much each of us liked or didn’t this man isn’t , in my opinion, the key here. The key is…he absolutely SMOKED CNN every damn night from a ratings standpoint (MSNBC frankly doesn’t register a blip , sorry). CNN is ecstatic. I would swerve into CNN at an airport or on in locker room at the gym, and they have been absolutely GIDDY since this began two weeks back. The very first night, they were talking how that very night might be his last broadcast.
O Reilly may be placed by a person we like better. But CNN got another scalp, and thats’ the point I think we need all see. O Reilly’s scalp is now in a bucket with those of Michael Flynn, and to some degree Devan Nunes (who recused himself) and Jeff Sessions (who did likewise). The GOP does not understand the bloodsport in which they are playing. No Dem EVER steps down (Bubba Clinton didn’t lose a day of his term, for Monica OR for having Paid Off Paula ) . The GOP needs to immediately stop stepping down for any reason that does not involve prison! GOP plays like gentleman/woman. Dems play GOP for fools.
