That you got a degree in basket-weaving, feminism, or buggy-whips is of no concern.
You’re not in school anymore, dear. You owe and have two options, pay up or declare bankruptcy like the rest of the adults in the world.

Strikes me as funny.
Once enemies and families would sell their dependants into slavery.Ancient times.
Modern times. “Educated” children sell themselves into slavery, via “Student Loan”.
Of course the bureaucracy is going to encourage these dumb suckers to step onto their treadmill, they become lifetime clients.
Guaranteeing more bureaucrats.
Of course the other side of this mess, those that chose wisely get the joy of paying endless taxes to fund the Education industry.
I guess they were good when Obama took the competition out of the student loan market and maybe expected the loans to be forgiven.
“Educated” children sell themselves into slavery, via “Student Loan”.
Or one could save up for that. My parents put away money over the years so that I could go to university, though I paid a large amount of my undergraduate expenses from the money I earned from my summer jobs.
During my time as a grad student, however, I paid for nearly everything out of my own pocket. I saved and invested my money over the years, so it took a while before I finished my education.
These snowflakes have NO clue!!! They figure a fairy will pay clueless is no defense!!! I hope they will learn a lesson the hard way. But then again they will take a temper tantrum!!! SNOWFLAKES…stung!!
The problem isn’t the loans so much as it is the predatory practices of the education industry. Young people who don’t understand debt and repayment get suckered into the scam of huge debt for useless degree. The false promises of the education establishment are tantamount to running a ponzi scheme. The only beneficiaries of the scam is the tenured professors and administration of the various institutes of higher learning.
not that i give a r@ts @ss but student loans are exempt from bankruptcy options.
you play, you gotta pay… no way out!

that said: the gov should NOT be in the biz of lying to the tots about college and then loaning them money to rake in through heavily gov subsidized institutions…
not cool at all.
all education delivery should be privatized from diapers and daycare to safe spaces and prayer rooms.
if a small subsection can’t afford basic education or needs a little help, then some direct eduction vouchers could be made available.
though i’d prefer it all to be done a local and or charitable level…
in my dreams…
Lower quality ‘education’ for more and more people unqualified to be in university. Why is anyone surprised with the result? “Millennials for mediocrity” is the snowflake moniker.
Regarding “pay up or declare bankruptcy,” in the U.S. bankruptcy is not an option. Quoting Time magazine from 2012:
“the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005, which made it so that no student loan — federal or private — could be discharged in bankruptcy unless the borrower can prove repaying the loan would cause “undue hardship,” a condition that is incredibly difficult to demonstrate unless the person has a severe disability. That essentially lumps student loan debt in with child support and criminal fines — other types of debt that can’t be discharged.” One more reason never to let a lawyer write a law!
My kids ALL went to Community College BEFORE attending UCLA and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Two years of CORE, fundamental, math and science classes. They were able to take Calculus and Physics in a classroom of 35 people (25, by the end of the Semester) instead of at the University class with 225 students and a TA who speaks “some” broken English. They got all the personal attention that a Private school student does … for pocket change fees. And guess what ?! They learned the SAME basic formulas and equations they would have been taught in the fancy, expensive, 4-year college. Zero college debt for half their 4-year college.
But I have to admit that my children benefitted from their “white privilege”, because they come from an “intact” family with a mom & dad who have been married for 35 years. A mom & dad who taught them fiscal responsibility. A mom & dad who taught them to be self-reliant. A mom & dad who instilled a passion, and discipline for learning. And … a mom & dad who PAID for their college. My 3 children have -0- college debt. And I, intentionally, took out small student loans on their behalf (the FAFSA process would only give my kids SMALL loans – because, evidently, mom & dad are “rich” … news to me). So I make monthly payments on my kids student loans (Navient is one of the servicers). My kids benefit from a positive credit report, because I never miss a payment. And I must say that there is NO confusion or problems with the loan Servicers. I a paying the EXACT monthly payment that I signed-up for … duh. And I have been fully informed of all the options available for repayment. FYI … I have done this for my children, because I admire (mostly) Asian families who sacrifice for their children, and I had -0- family support when I went to college. I did not want my kids to suffer through college like I did.
These whiny snowflakes are clearly NOT college material. Legitimate college students would have no difficulty understanding and navigating the loan process. It is clearly spelled-out in black and white (not just white) in the application and loan doc’s. What these flakey snowflakes REALLY want is a mom & dad to pay for their college. They want FREE college. But they HATE “the family”. Esp. the “nuclear family”. Their bitter, divorced, single mom taught them that marriage (esp. “Christian” marriage) is EVIL. And that two mommies, or two daddies, or a poor single mother is just as good a “family”. Well, with few exceptions … it’s NOT. Sorry snowflake … you got screwed by LIFE. Your poor, bitter, lonely, divorced single mother LIED to you and did everything in her power to teach her victimhood to you. Now you want to force your victimhood on the taxpayer. Yeah … right … it takes a Village to raise a child ? Well the Village is doing a CRAP job with most of your generation. The Village AIN’T gonna PAY for your FAILED college years and worthless “degree”
“Snowflake stung by realty”
Not to be picky here but we aren’t talking about real estate are we?
Isn’t this more about reality?
Just messin with ya Lance.
If most parents were like you, then there wouldn’t be a problem with too many under-qualified, over-educated LibArts grads with useless degrees for today’s job market.
Job Applicants Please Note We do not hire LIBERALS This is not because we disagree with their political views It is because working here requires superior reasoning logic and reading comprehension skills and in our experience Liberals are deficient in those areas We have found that they make decisions based on their emotions not logic This would be very detrimental to our business We regret any inconvenience this may cause.
Finally some reality and sanity returning to a small part of the educational racket. Now if only they could and would get rid of a lot of the radical leftist professors.
The article had me at the admission that another piece of the Obama legacy has been dismantled.

Collisions with real life are the lessons learned MOST unforgettably.
So many of these snowflakes have been bubble-wrapped for 20+ years to “protect” them from colliding with reality, and when reality finally arrives it’s a HUGE shock to their ever-so-tender systems.
As a semi-retired geezer in my late 60s I confidently forecast that their ‘declining years’ are going to be far more shocking to them than anything they’ve ever imagined. Gotta love karma’s payback!
it is ok to borrow for an education, but, you might better make sure you are educated to the point where you can earn the money to repay the loan. women’s studies and basket weaving 101 ain’t going to pay the rent or the loan and there are only so many useless government jobs in those fields.
You can’t file bankruptcy on student loans. Like Herpes, they tend to never go away. They are the ultimate in predatory lending. First tell students and parents that 1) College X’s degrees mean great jobs when you graduate, and 2) Without a college degree you are bound for a life of poverty or jail (neither of which is true). Then offer an 18 year old tons of “tomorrow dollars” with just a signature, and watch ’em buy a new motor scooter, or iPhone, or trip to Cancun.
Half of the degrees are, economically, meaningless or worse. And once you figure that out, you also figure out that you’re paying for at least 20 years.
You don’t have to go through 4 years of college to find out your degree is worthless, there are several disciplines that return good careers and salaries and will continue to do so:
Medicine
Engineering
Law
Accounting/Commerce
and the newest entry, Comp/Sci
Hmmmmm, no LibArts or Wymyns or Indigenous studies there. Loser degrees, qualify people for barista work

“Young people who don’t understand debt and repayment…”
lemme help you out with that… “…shouldn’t be allowed
anywhere near a credit card or any type of financial
instrument.”
that was fun. my turn…

parallax shouldn’t be allowed to drive a car.”

my kid’s first year was paid by a scholarship. 2nd year paid by a RESP ‘registered education savings plan’ I started when it looked like she had the stuff to succeed. 3rd year paid by her mother the millionaire tightwad who conceded it was a good investment.
growing up, she assumed the role of wardrobe consultant, straight man to my quirky jokes, and financial adviser having inherited that skill from her mom.
she now works in Ottawa, has her own condo 10 minutes from parliament hill and supervises some dozen or whatever personnel. I doubt she has any debt except the mtg on the condo.
my tuition was paid via employee benefits at the university where I worked, and cash out of my pocket. no tuition debt ever.
THAT’s the way it’s done.
..because, evidently, mom & dad are “rich”…
Yea we ran into that BS here in Calgary as well. Just as the Oil prices started tumbling, losing ones job, I am told our 2 girls did not qualify for Student Loans…and the only way they could in fact do college was via a “Student Line of Credit”…with a disgusting rate of 7.3% in a 2.35% world….
And at about the same time I hear that (_i_)hole in Ottawa has no issue in wiping out some hundreds of millions of dollars of “student loan debt”. It left me wondering just who was able to get onto that particular gravy train..??
Anyway, My oldest graduated with a Diploma in Interior Design and is doing well…with $9000 debt, the youngest took only one yr of Broadcast Journalism and decided she was not going to join what she called a generation of left wing morons and left the program…and also stuck with a significant debt load. Both are paying them off as they can.
At least they didn’t come out of the college experience with the snowflake mentality
