Progressives move into party to block Leitch and O’Leary
31 March 2017 | Marie Vastel – Parliamentary Correspondent in Ottawa | Canada
Center-left progressives are moving into the Conservative Party to block Kellie Leitch’s and Kevin O’Leary’s path to the leadership. A recruitment drive apparently has rallied thousands of new members to the party, with the sole aim of making those two controversial aspiring leaders lose, Le Devoir has learned.

The campaign is titled ‘A Tolerable Opposition’. The goal: “to prevent these very bad candidates from becoming leader of the Conservative Party,” said Benjamin Kolaczek, one of the group’s five co-founders, who thinks he managed to recruit around 5,000 new party members since February 1 through their websites, Twitter pages and e-mails.
Mr. Kolaczek has never voted Conservative – he supported the Liberal Party in 2015 – nor been a member of a political party. The CPC, “is the first political party which I joined officially,” he confesses.
And almost all the new members who joined the CPC through Tolerable Opposition are, like him, from the center or the left of the political spectrum. …
… In Toronto, Aaron Binder and one of his friends had the same idea by launching their ‘A Strong Canada’ site in mid-February. They attack “the two candidates who are most likely to win and who are detestable,” he summed up for Le Devoir. …
… “I joined the Conservative Party yesterday. I almost threw up in my mouth,” our source told Le Devoir in mid-March. And the sentiment was shared by neo-democrats who contacted ‘Tolerable Opposition’ to join the Conservative Party as well. …
… “0.02% of the voters who have the right to vote in general elections will choose the leader of one of our political parties [among the Conservatives]. And it is not good for our democracy or for our government,” Kolaczek pointed out.

Now, this IS a joke: They claim “it is not good for our democracy” yet sabotaging a leadership race apparently is. Please note I’m still pining for Stephen Harper, so I don’t support any one candidate but it’s galling that some people are trying shamelessly to manipulate the outcome.

After touring a Magna auto parts facility in Brampton, Ont., Trudeau was asked several times how he can justify the $372.5-million loan package announced in February for Bombardier’s CSeries and Global 7000 aircraft programs.

  5. Well, perhaps all of us can join the Liberals Party in an effort to get rid of the cardboard Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. If Leitch and O’Leary are so unacceptable, does this not give Liberals a free ride? This attempt at skewing the vote is undemocratic, but the left seems to have little respect for democracy. I too miss Harper. He was a fine Prime Minister done in by the cynical media and duplicitous Liberal party. Now we have no idea of who really is running the country.

  6. PM Harper called Maritimers defeated and was rewarded with 0 of 32 seats.
Like most politicians he was only partially right.
    Canadians,one and all, are defeated.
And could care less about their fellow Canadians.

  7. “Freeland knew her grandfather was editor of Nazi newspaper”
So he should have supported the Communist side that killed 12 million of his countrymen? I never met one of my grandfathers and the other died when I was 5. Am I responsible for their sins?

  8. Trudeau is like a programmed Chatty Kathy doll. He has a limited number of responses to questions. Press a button, and some predictable cliche that essentially states nothing will be emitted. The difference between JT and Harper is that you KNEW Harper actually understood the issues.

  9. Perhaps in future leadership races the Conservative Party should accept the votes only of members in good standing for 3+ years. Mind you, people out to make a mockery of any legitimate process will find a way to sabotage it. That’s their understanding of “democracy”. It’s the same brand of “democracy” which affords senators the freedom to express their opinion — as long as it’s the same opinion shared by their Liberal & purportedly “independent” & “progressive” counterparts. Senator Lynn Beyak comes to mind.
The CBC’s Rosemary Barton has been relentlessly pursuing the issue of Senator Beyak’s opinion, which counters the generally-held opinion that the residential schools were all inherently bad. Time and again Barton has pointed out Sen. Beyak refusal to be interviewed on P&P. I suppose Barton expects Sen. Beyak to appear as a supplicant before her, as most politicians are expected to do. She apparently hasn’t heard about the opinion of Order of Canada recipient Tomson Highway, whom Lorrie Goldstein talks about in his column titled “In defence of Senator Lynn Beyak”.

  10. “I too miss Harper. He was a fine Prime Minister done in by the cynical media and duplicitous Liberal party”
I’m thinking it’s one of the reasons there seems to be a lack of interest in the leadership race. The media lead by buffoons like Coyne helped bring down a good PM; a PM who had a genuine interest in improving things for the average Canadian.

  11. Bongo tied the 370 million and the subsequent bonus money some 35 million to good jobs and helping the middle class?
WTF was he thinking? This helps the middle class? Hahaha

  12. Freelands sins are not those of her grandfather. Hers are her own mendacity.
She did know gramps was a nazi collaborator and chose to rewrite his history in order to obscure his nazi sympathies.
Freeland is a proven lyer…and Liberal cabinet minister.

  13. Here’s a suggestion. Go somewhere else and vomit – on your own dime. It’s hard to believe such idiots are allowed to educate kids.
I guess they blindly go off to class like soldiers blindly go off to war. I hear Venezuela will have some openings for “academics” soon.
I hope he doesn’t mind the odd purge or possible execution.
Anyway Tucker kicks his ass. Why do these loons keep coming on his show to be schooled in reality?
“Some guy gave up his first class seat for a uniformed soldier. People are thanking him. “I’m trying not to vomit or yell about Mosul,” Ciccariello-Maher, an associate professor in Drexel’s history and politics department, tweeted on Sunday.”
“They deserve to not have to join the military if they would rather just get an education instead,” Ciccariello-Maher continued.”
“OK, but he did (join),” Carlson interjected. “He doesn’t have a government-subsidized job at a university like you. So why does that make you mad?”
    Yup.

I remember the ads for them on TV. If I recall correctly, the recording inside would eventually become worn so that each time the string was pulled, the doll would either repeat the same phrase each time or what was played was so garbled that it was incomprehensible.
A perfect likeness for our cardboard cutout of a prime minister.

Excellent analogy. His muslime mouthpiece female MPs like Monsef are just the same. They stand up in Evasive Answer Period and the MP behind them pulls the string. Not once have I heard a straight answer from any of the Lieberal MPs. All they do is parrot pre-recorded talking points with little or no relevance to the questions asked.
Lethbridge MP Rachel Harder asked Status of Women Minister Maryam Monsef whether she believed sex-selective abortion was a form of gender-based violence today at the status of women committee meeting. Check out Monsef’s non-answer:

  18. Yes, that’s an excellent article on the residential school saga. This quote is worth sharing:
…renowned Cree novelist, playwright, classical pianist and Order of Canada recipient, Tomson Highway Has A Surprisingly Positive Take On Residential Schools.
“All we hear is the negative stuff, nobody’s interested in the positive, the joy in that school. Nine of the happiest years of my life, I spent it at that school. I learned your language, for God’s sake. Have you learned my language? No, so who’s the privileged one and who is underprivileged?
“You may have heard stories from 7,000 witnesses in the process that were negative. But what you haven’t heard are the 7,000 reports that were positive stories. There are many very successful people today that went to those schools and have brilliant careers and are very functional people, very happy people like myself. I have a thriving international career, and it wouldn’t have happened without that school. You have to remember that I came from so far north and there were no schools up there.”
The aboriginals continue to play the victim card to suck more money from the Lieberal gvt. One wonders what the Lieberals will do when faced with the virtue signalling dilemna when the muslimes and the aboriginals are competing for the same limited pool of victim compensation funding.

  20. Some one needs to check into what connections those receiving the bonuses have to the Liberal Party. Perhaps the extra generous bonuses relate to their having to do without for several years. This whole affair is a bit too reminiscent of adscam for my tastes.

  21. On April 1st Rona Ambrose is pleased to announce her next chapter after the party selects a new leader ‎in May.

It’s unfortunate that she can’t continue as party leader.

  22. I have a book called “4 Years . . . and then some.” It is a memoir of a woman (Mary Harrington Bryant) who taught in an Anglican residential school in an Inuit community from 1944-1948. I met the woman at a conference. She was quite elderly at that point. The book speaks for itself and includes some actual diary entries where you get a sense of the day to day — with everything happening (home-made ice cream, sports days, trapping, breadmaking, cooking rabbits, and parties!) There are some wonderful tales, and absolutely delightful pictures — many kids with huge smiles. She even talks about the return to school at the end of summer. The kids were truly excited and thrilled at the start of a new school year. Moreover, the kids who received an education played an important role in their communities. Barton (the Liberals, the CBC, and the whole country, really) need to take a closer look at this issue. Everyone acknowledges the hardships that some experienced, but for many natives, the schools were an important bridge to a successful future. This book is truly uplifting and reminds us not to judge the past superficially. After all the mea culpas and hand wringing, it is important to note that we do not, for the most part, seem to care much about native children as some of their teachers did at that earlier point.

  23. I just have to drive this point home about the positive aspects of the residential schools. What is wrong with us that we cannot see past whatever politically correct version of the truth has been adopted by the left?
Here is an excerpt from the book (mentioned above). It is in fact an excerpt from a letter which the teacher (Mary Harrington) writes to her mother in Sept. of 1946. She takes two boys who cannot go home to a school cabin as a treat:
“I put the boys to sleep on the bunk and I slept on the floor. Mosquitoes and spiders tormented me but to see how much the boys were enjoying the camping was worth it. The next day I let the boys learn how to light the fire (they haven’t the wood at Coppermine) and to cook while I watched and sketched. They had a wonderful time!)”
I think the episode confirms that some (probably many) who taught in residential schools were quite caring people. Senator Beyak should not give ground on this because our assessment of residential schools in recent years has been way too one-sided. This is a great book if you can get your hands on it.I bought it directly from the author.

  24. “She even talks about the return to school at the end of summer. The kids were truly excited and thrilled at the start of a new school year.” Lindal
I have heard that same opinion from several people who worked for Indian Affairs during those times. The chiefs wanted education for the children… WHAT Father or Mother WOULD NOT!
In my opinion the system failed when the educated children where returned to the reservation. The tribes had nothing for them, no jobs, or obvious use for their education… It was not unlike Obama’s Kenyan father who returned from Harvard to a nothing career and turned to drinking…
    JMHO

  25. No her grandfathers history is not her fault but lying about it is her fault.
She’s a liar and not fit to be an MP, let alone a cabinet minister.

  26. “It’s unfortunate that she can’t continue as party leader.”
There you hypocrite I quoted your entire sentence if it made any difference.
My answer – the sooner she is gone the better. Conservatives don’t need a Liberal Lite as leader.
