The fast-food chain has slapped the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. with a lawsuit over an TV expose last month that claimed its chicken was only about 50-percent poultry and the rest of it soybeans, The Post has learned.
Subway’s is claiming $210 million in damages in the legal flap, blasting the soy-filler allegations from news show CBC Marketplace as “defamatory and absolutely false,” a Subway spokesman told The Post.
[…] A week after the damaging CBC report, Subway published a rebuttal, saying it had its chicken tested by two independent labs, one in the US and one in Canada, and that both found only trace amounts of soy.
“The allegation that our chicken is only 50% chicken is 100% wrong,” Subway Chief Executive Suzanne Greco said at the time.
I predict they settle. The “only 50% chicken” claim didn’t pass the smell test to begin with.

So, when they settle, how much is that going to cost the Canadian taxpayer? And, why? The buffoons who made the false statement get protected. I’m sure that heads won’t roll as they should.
I watched a few CBC consumer programs and saw that many of their so called revelations were mostly stretched. I am happy that finally someone pushed back. Wait for the cries of corporate interests muzzling free press.

First clue was the “research” was done by Trent University. In my day Trent was the University you went to when you couldn’t get accepted anywhere else. It’s not exactly known as a bastion of scientific knowledge.

No big deal,so CBC pays out say, $100 million in the settlement,which Subway will gladly settle for rather than battle a bottomless money pit Crown corporation in Court for ten years.
Add legal fees to some fortunate Liberal lawyers of a measly $50 million more,and all the Gub’mint has to come up with is an extra $150 million, which Trudeau has already agreed to give to our beloved national broadcaster,the glue that binds the fabric of our Nation,etc.! Chump change and NO problem for the house organ of the LPC in Canada.
Just the work on climate change alone by CBC is justification for the Liberals to ramp up the funding. “Marketplace” often goes off the rails in their zeal to appear like they’re actually doing some investigative reporting to protect us peasants from those awful corporations. 30 or so years back cbc did a thinly veiled docudrama based on then AB premier Lougheed. It was full of bias innuendo and falsehood. Lougheed sued and won.
Nothing changed. So what if you get sued – and lose? The point is – you made your point. People saw the program and more than likely never saw the retraction, never heard of the apology. Game point match.

Maybe a time will come when government employees who breach the public trust are not given access to taxpayer funded legal defense.
Power trippers should be on their own without taxpayer support for their miscreant behaviour.
If they wish to play God with our money & lives, let them be personally accountable for their misdeeds when they act outside their purview.
Their responsibility is to the taxpayer, not their personal views or the whims of their witch hunt/gotcha mentality.
Oh, and if they are found guilty, they get fired too and sued by the government to recover the costs of their negligence.
