Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Yes, they can recall what’s still on the shelves but if I thought I had bought one of those bottles I’d just mark it and pour half measures for mixed drinks and dilute with water to drink it “neat.”
crikey.
they finally get something right in the skeletal remains of this province and da gubbamint wants the stuffed tossed.
That’s one way to get customers for life.
Gotta run to LCBO, maybe they haven;t removed it form the shelves yet.
Holy crap ! If this sh_t had been around when I was a kid … my parents would never caught me displacing their vodka with water !
When I was a kid you had to know an old Ukrainian farmer to get that king of stuff.
> The CFIA suggests that recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store.
Yeah, right.
Hey, does anybody need to fuel a jet?
Returned to the store????
Yeah, right. I can see that happening!
They are so silly, in limiting the percentage of alcohol in the bottle. I routinely buy 190 proof in the US. It is 85 percent alcohol, so you don’t have to use much. You can’t light the drink or the disk on fire with 40%.
Yeah, see the store staff all clamouring for the task of “throwing it out”.
Only Gubbmint….any private enterpiser would have simply doubled the price! 🙂
Hilarious!
You couldn’t make this up.
In Quebec, one can buy 90% ethanol from the SAQ, it costs more than Johhny Walker Black Label, though.
Funny, I can make the stuff myself for about $2/liter.
I can relate to this…
Some years back, while a “guest worker” in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a friend and I were commiserating our lives while sipping on screwdrivers (you know, OJ and Siddiqi, the local version of moonshine vodka). You’d buy the Siddiqi from your favorite source, then cut it 50% with your favorite bottled water, and use like vodka.
Anyway, we’re yakking away and suddenly realize we’re pretty loopy for just having a couple of drinks. I happened to have a good hydrometer handy (do NOT ask why) and checked the gravity of our supposedly cut Siddiqi, and it turned out to be straight stuff, around 190 proof. It was a bottle “passed on” from a friend who’d left Saudi and couldn’t take his booze with him. I’d just assumed that it was cut… silly me!
And yes, Saudi Arabia is one of the worst places for an alcoholic to go if he wants to be away from temptation.
Probably great stuff if you want to get a good buzz quickly. My kinda vodka.
I read somewhere that the speed at which it enters the bloodstream maxes out at around 40%, so if you drink 80% stuff, you get drunk at the same rate, but wind up getting twice as drunk.
As a loyal and obedient Ontario citizen, I will immediately return my bottle for a full refund…I won’t however be returning all the contents.
“… my parents would never caught me displacing their vodka with water !”
LOL.
When I was 16, me and a buddy stole a 26er of vodka from his dad’s bar. When we got to our little fort in the woods to drink it, we discovered that it was water.
As a reward for your loyalty to the Party, your chocolate ration will be increased from 30 grams a week to 20 grams a week!
A friend of ours can confirm what you saw in Saudi Arabia. This was a number of years ago and he said he saw more drinking and homosexuality where both are allegedly against the law than any place in North America.
I brought back 151 proof rum from Puerto Rico. When my mother was visiting she caught a cold so I made her hot rum toddies. She had two on consecutive nights and couldn’t remember going to bed either night. Great medicinal stuff.
Russian screech. I wonder if it had any effect on the US elections?
LOL!
Reminds me of my Filipino secretary (while I was in the Kingdom). He was considered to be pretty notorious, but generally confined his “friendship” to an important local official, who in turn made sure that “Sam” always had spending money and nice clothes.
I agree. An army buddy of mine brought back some Polish vodka that was if I remember correctly about 180 proof. Whew, that was strong stuff.
Back in the day, 180 proof was the rum of choice in Her Majesties Canadian Navy. Can’t speak for the modern times, they’ve probably even removed the beer fridges.
Double the volume???
What are you, some kinda Commie? 😉
We’d get some crazy moonshine from the Six Nations Reserve back in our high school days.
The stuff was so amazing we drank it like cough syrup from a tablespoon.
BTW, Captcha code is “MARKET WARNING”,…. probably nothing…
