You mean like the NDP? Or Reform? Or the BQ? The Greens? The CCF was certainly a disruptive force in Canadian Politics.
Shorter hair: “How dare Canadians make choices for themselves. After all, we are the Naturally Governing Party, n’est-ce pas?”

Perhaps the Spawn is being introspective by realizing that any electorate that voted for him based on his “platform”, last name, hair, and lack of life-skills really can’t be trusted to make choices for themselves. That would be expecting too much.
So now the NDP is the scape goat? There have been NDP governments in at least 6 different provinces. In how many of them have they introduced proportional representation?
Ranked ballot makes sure the middle of the road choice has the best chance of winning. That’s a disaster for choosing a government as it stifles change. It is the best option for choosing a party leader if only one vote can can be held as presumably the party membership is already a relatively like-minded segment of society.
Interesting that Trudeau said that ranked ballot was his preference – presumably all along. Was this whole proportional promise a Trojan horse to get it – hoping that a leaderless NDP could be suckered into going along with it?
PR would be bad for Canada says newly religious Trudeau, who hving failed to make the NRP the government eternal, now wants things just as they are. I suspect the Damascene moment occured to Butts just after they formed the government with the current system.
The liberals, without fail have each and every campaign that I remember, depend on the NDP to lend their vote. The NDP has, with exception under Layton, has habitually campaigned for runner up.
The elephant in the room is that the urban vote in the MTV is predominantly those that are in some form or another dependant on government either by entitlement or employed by same. The only way to unhinge those votes is if they feel voting won’t make a difference, or some financial disaster forces the governments at all three levels to cut off great swaths of the takers. In this effort Wynne , Notley, and PM Potato head may be doing more to contribute to that than any conservative policy ever could.
Or in those eternal words.
“The problem is they run out of other peoples money”
Asshole politics. We must all send Kellie Leitch a thank you note for making Trudeau make hia promise a lie.
What an arrogant prick our Prime Minster really is. The court of public opinion and the election booth will decide who should be a fringe party and who should not. Not the corrupt Liberal Party of Canada and certainly not the narcissistic, conceited, stuttering drama queen, Justin Trudeau. How I wish the media love-in with this shirtless wonder would end…
I consider any party that has 39.42 % of the vote a fringe party.
Ah, another axis of disinformation hit piece on the Conservatives. And with the Conservatives and the Liberals back to fairly tight in the polls. And with the Tories leaderless as yet, no less. Timing, anyone? Anyone?
Naturally, the Liberals’ slippage has nothing to do with the shallowness of its leader or its stupid back-to-the future policies, most recently Trudeau, Jr.’s scary pronouncements on immigration. Couldn’t be. Solution: blame the “extremist” “hypocritical” Tories! Presto! Mommy make everybody feel better. Here, better have another glass of Kool-Aid just to be safe.
It’s a long-standing tradition (not law) among Canadian political parties that their respective leaders are determined to have won the leadership with 50% +1 votes of those casting the ballots in a leadership process. The voting used to take place at delegated conventions of two or three thousand delegates (like U.S. presidential candidates are still selected by their respective parties), but in the last few years, that has changed to include all party members in a direct vote for leader. The Liberals were first to use delegated conventions (I think McKenzie King was their first leader elected that way, but I could be wrong), and the Tories were first to use direct election by party members (early 2000s).
And, anyway, how would it work for any party to not have a leader with at least 50% + 1 support of party adherents? Seems to me that if one couldn’t even demonstrate that level of support, it might be sort of hard to convince the general electorate that you were, you know, a credible representative of your party. Even with that threshold, it didn’t stop Mulroney from undermining Clark (thank God) or anti-Manning forces from undermining Manning, or from Chretien undermining Turner, or Martin from undermining Chretien, or Michael Chong from undermining Harper.
Anybody with any memory of how these have worked (beyond, that is, of the recent swooning coronation of Himself as Liberal leader; he won with a landslide as first choice) would know that Harper had less than 50% as first choice candidate and subsequent choices had to be counted. Competitive leadership race, anyone? Anyone? And if you’re going to have the membership vote, probably best not to keep them waiting around hospital-emergency-room-style at 338 bad halls across the country drinking bad coffee and eating stale donuts while you’re counting the votes in Ottawa. They might not bother to stick around — some might even have to go to, um, the hospital emergency room (I think they actually did have people stick around at the Ontario PC vote that elected Eves, which was very painful — a portent of things to come).
So, the ranked ballot option is only a convenience for party members who might have other things to do that day or who can’t otherwise sit there for 8 or 12 hours. On the other hand, perpetual Liberal party rule is not a convenience for anyone who has two living brain-cells to rub together, and the notion that it is has only ever been mooted once by…guess who? The Liberal Party of Canada under Justin Trudeau! Surprise, surprise!
“The Liberal Party needs to go on forever, even if we have to have a leadership contest once in a while!” Come to think of it, maybe that’s the same reason we all have to have, er, competitive national elections once in a while! (And I know that some around here feel that national elections are really about the Liberal Party going on forever anyway, regardless of who wins, but I digress…)
At any rate, it’s fun to watch how he’s skewered (screwed?) himself. Anybody with any mental horsepower would have known that lighting the fuse on this particular powder keg for the sake of an election win was an act of self-immolation. Praise the Lord and pass the popcorn!
Bingo!
This sorry-assed, perpetual adolescent excuse for a PM, shames all Canadians. Kelly Leitch demonstrates common sense, good judgement and an intellect that the vapid Trudeau and his entire entourage couldn’t possibly match. In whose hands would you rather place your life…an experienced, better than competent surgeon or the vacuous, failed, part time drama coach, ski-board instructor and bouncer (it is to laugh!), poseur of a PM?
every time Butts removes his hand from the puppets ass…………………….
If Trudeau is spouting that Kellie Lietch represents the “fringe” then she’s probably the candidate he fears most. If you’re going to have the Trump phenomenon duplicated in Canada the first step is to have your candidate ridiculed, particularly by the opposition media.
A rare glimpse behind the curtain. This is how Canada works. Some semi-educated twerp like Justine makes up his mind what is best for him and his social club, then they ram it through Parliament.
They’re -all- like this. They know what’s best! We all need to shut up and let them get on with it.
Justine thinks that he could do some really Good Works if only he didn’t have to worry about losing an election. He saw that the other social clubs weren’t going to let him get away with the transparently self-serving maneuver of ranked ballot, so he cut the electoral reform promise loose without a second thought.
After all, do you keep promises made to a dog? We, the governed, are not people. We’re not in Justine’s social club. We are the stupid Masses. We must be controlled.
That’s who runs Ottawa.
Actually, I agree with his basic point about fringe parties. Funny he did not think of that when Liberals were pushing PR. However his example of Kellie Leitch is appalling. It shows he does not understand a central issue in contemporary politics in Canada. Kellie has a lot support across Canada and she will be getting more.
Exactly! Kellie has more common sense in one finger than the useless puppet with pretty hair has in his whole body.
We have known for decades that anyone who does not support the immoral corruption and valueless Liberals is a “fringe” person. The Liberals have told us so.
Exactly.
God, I feel for you guys.
It’s gonna be a looooooong two years.
You know I listened real careful to the clip and I could have sworn I heard juthtin mutter at the end…
“These philistine’ths, they would wathe their ballot like they wathe their money on beer and popcorn”
Well, Spud just handed a policy to the CommieDips. The Horde will run with PR in the next election, eroding substantial support from the Derp.
Hope Spawn likes the taste of leather….sometimes it’s rubberized plastic, but he will develop a taste for it
I wish Justin would have shut up for a moment so we could hear the kid in the background give his opinion, from what I heard it was making more sense.
Kellie Leitch as fringe candidate? Only in the bizarro world of Trudeau Jr. The thinking of Liberals as to the next election is clear. the CPC leader whoever it is will be the Trump-like choice. Even though Leitch resembles Trump like she does Mother Teresa matters not, the LPC and their agiprop CBC arm will make the connection for Canadians. This strategy fueled Paul Martins’s campaigns and we will see it again. If K O’Leary is the leader works even better for them, the anti-American card will be played big time by Liberal depp thinkers next time round.
The real Canada is diverse and we promote and welcome diversity as long as you agree with the liberals. Yes . REally.
Gee, I wonder why he didn’t use the current Greens as an example?
He’s Just not ready.
Little Potato isn’t the only one alarmed. It was worth hearing David Frum nearly wetting himself in anxiety over the Trump administration last night.
http://tvo.org/video/programs/the-agenda-with-steve-paikin/authoritarian-democracy-in-the-making
Just listen to Paikin’s introduction. He’s not far away from panic mode.
Not that anyone considers Frum much of a conservative, but his hand-wringing was amusing.
So yes, the elites are worried about Leitch and thus desperately trying to label her as fringe.
For those who haven’t realized that a long time ago, the cat is out of the bag: Trudeau said point blank proportional representation was never in the cards. The ‘reform’ was to bring ranked ballots, or nothing. The whole consultation and meetings were a charade from the get go.
With FPTP the Liberals govern 70% of the time.
With ranked ballots they’d govern 100% of the time.
With PR they will never have majority.
Since they could not bring themselves to simply impose ranked ballots, they settled for second best.
I agree completely with you.
Kellie has the Child Spawn worried.
Maybe she’s the one.
The Trudeau lies, abetted by the incompetent and unethical mediocracy during the last federal election:
I will bring in PR: I don’t agree with PR, aka he lied
We’re in a recession: He lied
The feds have a budget deficit: He lied
We have a fighter capability gap: He lied, then combined NATO and NORAD roles undertaken simultaneously without justification to cover the lie.
Restoring OAS to age 65 (delayed to 67 by PMSH). Lied big time, didn’t restore age 65, now looking at delaying beyond 67.
Will run deficits under $10b and balance books by end of term: Lied and lied. Now running possibly $60b out two years, with no chance of balance.
He will restore Native pride. Lied big time, to the point of insulting a Native leader, telling he, like the rest of the country, to shut up.
Many, many more lies, by commission and omission, misrepresentations, insults to Canadians daring to be concerned about their security, bowing to the “worst instincts” of not wanting to be offed by some jihadist nutbars, or being on the fringe with Kellie Leitch.

Meanwhile the Tories, with no leader, no policies and no hope are tied with the Grits, with Trudeau’s mendacity & idiocy still under mediocracy cover:

Oops — perhaps time for another coffee tour to distract the masses.
a revolutionary idea:
try out a couple proportionate elections to make an EDUCATED decision on permanence or can the idea.
but politishuns here in Canuckistan have no vision, no guts, and no concept of playing devils advocate with their ideological based legislation.
Harper was a control freak who fired anyone who disagreed with him. he needed to get boot out of office for that.
Cdn politics consists of regularly booting out the bullies and incompetents which pretty much encompasses every party.
voting is the process of electing the one that will do the least damage, ie proportionate voting and the deadlocks they create are an excellent way to stop the meddling in the economy, social engineering, etc.
We should build him a canoe shed to hide in where he can disconnect from the land.
David Frum has become a real favourite with the interviewers now that he has been outspoken about his dislike for Trump. CBC had Newt on during the election — he wiped the floor with Mansbridge, so you can be sure he won’t be invited back.
PM Man Bun has his head so far up his own ass every time he farts it sounds like a sneeze.
Bun up the bum?
This story is starting to grow legs.
PM Potato head now claims he reneged on his promise for the sake of national unity.
He’s becoming the gift that keeps on giving.
The douce was up here, saying” Grow the middle Class”.
Who are these people?
The only Canadians with any chance of living the “Middle Class”dream today are government employees, shamelessly protected from current fiscal reality.
So when Justin Uh, UH ,Uh Grows the middle class, he means more government parasites?
Enforcing the Carbon Tax Grab?
On the brightside, This Liberal Idiocracy is getting us where we need to be, sooner not later.
Harper just slowed the decline, or really barely began to ride the brakes.
Canadians wailed, hated and elected Hair Apparent.
Kleptocracy rules.
Sooner this bunch of fools and bandits crashes and burns, the sooner we can rebuild.
Better to smash it now, while we still have some real builders still living.
Update
The outraged over juthtins reneg have organized “nationwide protests”.
The meme writes itself.
During the election he portrayed himself as the white knight astride his valiant steed when all along he was just another bastard prince riding a trojan horse.
