For far to many years the world been governed by the “dullards and the devious”. Canada’s current choice is the former, and Americas previous choice was the latter, here is the latest proof in a long litany of proofs, remember a proof is a proof. No place has been more affected by CO2 hysteria than Ont, yet we have an opposition leader and possible premier who agrees with the conventional wisdom, climate change is man made and Ont must “do something” even if it bankrupts the province.

I remember when the Pausebuster paper came out. The way journalists responded confirmed my suspicion that they were profoundly scientifically illiterate and/or their confirmation bias problems are huge. There were so many red flags with both the timing and the adjustments that even a blind man should have seen them. The most flagrant warning of complete BS science:

After missing that, which was easy to spot, not a single journalist who wrote or commented approvingly on this study, while attacking skeptics, should ever write any words mocking skeptics as: anti-science, climate deniers or climate conspiracy theorists. They also should rethink their faith in the idea that official climate scientists don’t lie, manipulate or hide data:

This is a staggering scandal — one of the largest and most important in the history of science. It cannot any longer be ignored. ClimateGate, and what fed into it, was bad enough, but now we have evidence of yet another major attempt to misrepresent the observational record. I am reminded of the PBS television series, “The Day the Universe Changed” by James Burke (circa 1985), which catalogued how successive destructions of conventional epistemological orthodoxies (deemed truths), defended and imposed as they were by the prevailing public authorities of the day, changed the course of human history. Indeed, the validity of the scientific approach and method themselves were established as a result of those destructions.
The greater scientific community cannot be indifferent to this development. If it remains uninvolved, as it largely has to date, it runs the profound risk, as Kate has serially hinted at, that all scientific research and investigation will carry with it the taint of invalidity. The most prestigious national organizations representative of broad areas of science, including both the Royal Societies of the Commonwealth countries and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, etc. (assuming that they themselves are not implicated in and compromised by this scandal) should immediately and in concert with each other, launch an investigation into this fraud, making serious findings of fact and fault, and recommending necessary follow-on actions to restore the credibility of the science world. It is best that the science community do this itself, but if it cannot, something like a joint Presidential Commission/Royal Commission needs to undertake this task (no outfit to do with the UN or any other transnational organization of that ilk can be involved). Serious consequences need to follow from this situation.
Beyond that, this development serves as a golden opportunity for conventional political parties of the right, such as our own, to pivot away from their prevailing go-along-to-get-along attitude on this subject. The perception created by this/these scandal(s) is that the recent observational record, in its entirety and as doctored, including original data collected to date, appears to me to be tainted. It simply cannot be relied upon, IMO. To the extent that it is even desirable, research in the field needs to start again. Regardless, a possible area of focus for the investigating authority may be to determine what part of the record, and interpretations given it, are salvageable.
Our right-of-centre parties need to get on with aggressively demanding such an approach, along with a complete cessation and roll-back of policies and measures associated with this field. There are a number of pointed questions that they need to start asking now about the economic and financial implications of such policies and measures as they now exist and are contemplated, with the intent of kicking out the underpinning of those policies and measures.
Time to get off the fence, ladies and gentlemen, and do your job.

Sounds like the climate science club has already circled the wagons. Apparently shoddy science can be retroactively redeemed if other climate scientist teams use “independent” analysis to get the same ballpark figure. OK….but if these scientists failed to call out Karl on his original flawed study then why should anyone automatically trust their analysis. Obviously all of them willingly tolerate terrible science so it isnt unreaonable to think that their analytical methods should be scrutinized more thoroughly.

That is really awful by any scientific standards. I suspect that statistical methods that seek to maximize warming are the norm in climate science (unless you get caught).

Right, and how exactly can Patrick Brown be convinced of this?
He has doubled down on the man-made climate shtick of Ont Liberals and can offer nothing but a prettier face to to their ruinous policies.
A courageous principled leader could summon opinion from respected scientists like Dr Bates, Judith Curry, analysts like Ross McKitrick, take your pick there is no shortage of opposition to Mann, Suzuki, Gore Pr Charles and so on. The terror of being branded “climate denier” keeps people like Brown in check, but if he cannot articulate an alternative view he should stand aside for someone who can. He is joining the AGW bandwagon just as the wheels are about to come off.

Well, yes, it’s a big problem. I’m with NME666 — I’ll be letting my MPP know that Brown needs to cut with the BS and grab a pair. Why would anyone vote for him otherwise?
If the Tories mean to do anything about electricity bills here in Ontario, other than parrot everybody’s complaints about them (which is all they’ve done so far), one of the necessary things (by no means the only big thing) is that all of the so-called “green” energy junk is going to have to be packed up, the contracts cancelled, cap-and-trade cancelled, etc., etc., etc.
Seems to me that the public, goaded as they will be by the professional pearl-string clutchers at the CBC and Toronto Star, is going to view all of that as a bit, you know, draconian, “far right-wing”, unfair and not very nice, so I’m guessing that having a pretty big and good reason and narrative for doing it is a pretty good idea. Like, for example, that the policy is based on a monstrous fraud, and that those advancing the policy are party to a monstrous fraud. Which, in the Liberals’ case, has a pretty good chance of being convincing.
Hence, the pivot. The evidence for the good reason and the narrative are all laid out now. But Ontario is just a microcosm of the problem — parties of the right need to be doing this all over the place. Trump is already showing the way, and I’m guessing that the timing of Dr. Bates’s disclosures is not in the least coincidental, which seems telegraphed by the completeness of Sec. Ross’s response (as quoted by glasnost above): Ross’s plan in response is not near big enough, but it appears that he wasn’t surprised by the disclosures.
