Nothing surprises me about Alberta politics, these days.
Will the Alberta Progressive Conservative party dare to kick out Jason Kenney at this late point in the chaotic leadership race?
The PC board members might just do it.
The fight for the old party is no longer political. It’s existential.

CPC is rapidly becoming Canada’s Party of Stupid. They never miss an opportunity to shoot themselves in the foot.
Who the h- are these people?
One small point of correction Deplorable Phantom, this article is about the Progressive Party of Alberta debating/contemplating its demise/divorce from the Conservative Party of Alberta. Whether Kenny stays in the race and merges with the Wildrose or Kenny gets booted from the PC party by its board the result will be the same. The PC Party will cease to exist in a few years.
The Wild West has taken on a new dynamic, it’s politics…who will ride off into the sunset should be a no-contest with the mess Alberta has become.
In just a few hours the fortunes of a deposed provincial political party will matter very little. Canada will have a new reality in Washington to deal with.
Why?
Because it’s 2017.
Yes, and we can do nothing about the “new reality in Washington”. We need to be concerned about what we have elected right here and how that will play out in dealing with the “new reality”. Not so sure Trump and company will be taken in by the Trudeau handshake and charm initiative he’s sure to start off with, it’s all he’s got. It’s the 2017 reality because it’s not 2016.
Deeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious, now were are all those a$$holes in from newfberta that all ways bang their gums about Ontario. Once the PC, all across kanadar, learn to throw the BIBLE out, and become a POLITICAL party, all will be good
Who cares? For decades now, I have been told that social conservatism is bad, m’kay. I was told this by people who claimed to be “conservative” in other more important ways. Over time, I observed the “successes” achieved by these people. So at this point, you are on your own. You want infanticide to remain the law of the land, you can go it alone. When they came for everything I believed in you remained silent; don’t expect me to speak up for you.
Well said.
Joe, it will be a good thing for the progressives to go into oblivion.
Interesting — if you read the comments on that article, the die-hard NDP supporters are from Ontario. That explains why Ontario is going to H in a handbasket — its out of touch leftists.
Remember the death throes of the social credit. Took about 15 yrs to finally exit.
Phantom, my original thought was to say that “they” are rats. They’re not contributors the to general wealth growth of the nation, but will readily bite off as much of it as others will let them. But to call them rats puts it backwards, they are anti-rats. Tars, maybe? Rats are small and want to remain unseen. Tars vary in size and want to be seen. If a tar sees a parade, they jump in front of it as though they’re leading the way.
The other major difference between rats and tars is behavior around ships. When a rat thinks there’s a chance that a ship will sink, it leaves. When a group of tars observes that a ship is stable, they pile on until they sink the ship. And they ride it to the bottom. And try to talk the original ship-builders into raising it again, numerous times. Tars will never acknowledge when they’ve destroyed a good thing because they’re too egocentric to consider any good beyond “good for me”.
Conservative minded people in Alberta appear prepared to fumble so badly that they will hand another term to the NDP. For all their enterpreneurship and ambition, they really are very stupid politically.
I’m actually surprised that Kenny even ran for these pinkos. Should have signed up for WR & then squeezed WR’s 1/2 pinko, climate change believing current leader right outta Dodge.
I stopped voting PROGRESSIVE Covertible when Stelmach showed up. When Calgary city councilors & local news readers became PC’s, I new I made the right choice.
The sad reality is that there is not enough purity in whatever brand of conservatism one adheres to in Alberta and likely across the nation to constitute a party able to beat the left. Thus a coalition is necessary. However messy it gets, the WR types will have to get together with the majority of the old red Tory PCs. One of them or both (replaced by one new banner) have to get off the ballot as there is only room for one unless the NDP is preferred. This means the socons, fiscal conservatives, and low energy progs get together with the handful of masochistic libertarians and all hold their noses at the sight of one another. That’s what happened in BC and as pathetic as it is, it’s better than the NDP.
Agreed, PO’d. That’s what lead me to the Wildrose. When a labour leader in Yellowhead wanted to go into politics he joined the PCs. That’s when I knew they were the P party, not the C party.
Social conservatives & PROGRESSIVE conservatives? WTF? There should be no PROGRESSIVE mentioned, or in their brand.
CONSERVATIVE. Period. Or go home. Screw progressives, they can go vote LPOC if they get in a snit. Social conservatives gave us guy marriage & abortion, just stick with conservative, mkay? That is fine by me. They need to be called out on what progressive means & that means the progressive destruction of this country through progressive policies, municipally, provincially & federally. You can put any other political name associated with progressive & you will get the same thing.
They can wear that label all wrapped up with the LPOC, NDP & GREEN’s progressive flag. The economic ruination of their kid’s futures can be laid at their feet, while we’re at it, so that everyone voting is well versed on who it was that got us into the debt spiral, screwed up country that it currently IS & will be if things carry on as they are right now.
As far as this voter is concerned, this country has until the next election to get things straight, or it’s done like toast! Frankly, that might be a good thing to happen.
CONSERVATIVE. Period. Or go home. Screw progressives
Exactly!! Progressive means ‘fùcked-up shít-for-brains NWO lackey’
…and if you’re gonna screw one, be sure to use protection and don’t get infected.
You’ve got about 60% of Alberta voters who aren’t NDP. Can you give a coherent definition of pure conservative that shows clearly where you will end up with 45 to 50% in one party under that definition. Good luck with that!
The Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta consists of 9 seats, currently. I haven’t followed their leadership issues in any great amount, but the take away for this voter (a conservative) is that of those 9 wannabes, most of them are running (except for outsider Kenny) for the leadership of the Party. Well, two of them have dropped out because Kenny is running & are clearly NOT conservative in the least in political outlook that favors conservatism, so why in hell’s name are they even allowed to run for leadership, or even be called “conservatives”? The other 7 are as indistinguishable as conservatives to this voter that I seriously wonder why they even run under the banner of “conservatism”. You haven’t noticed this?
This original post is about Jason Kenny, running for the Progressive Conservative Party leadership & certain folks who claim to be some kind of conservative having the vapors because Kenny ain’t their kind of conservative. The LPOC doesn’t seem to have this problem, nor do the NDP. Why?
I don’t think it has anything to do with conservatism, or marrying one kind of conservative with another to get some hybrid conservative Party, when most of the folks running for the leadership aren’t much of conservative for this voter to even think of voting for them in an election. The last iteration & election certainly made that clear to this party. Even their parachuted “leader” didn’t seem to understand what had happened to the Party & shot himself & Albertans in the mirror, when he didn’t even have to call an election. We have the NDP for all his efforts & the remaining 9 PROGRESSIVE Conservatives, who aren’t really conservative. Got it yet?
Why is there even a discussion about “social” or “fiscal” conservatives in the first place? Either you are a conservative espousing conservative principles, or not. Make up your minds. Breaking down the Party into little slivers just makes it easier for infiltrators to buy a $5 membership to screw your Party six ways to Sunday & take it over form the inside until you can’t recognize the original party.
Redford should never have been able to run as a conservative, she’s a commie, educated at the feet of Nelson Mandela…a black South African communist. It was plain as day, but this Party made distinctions that seemed to want to cater to just about anyone who says: “Sure I’ll run under your banner”, w/o a peep from Party elites. Is Kenny a conservative espousing conservative principles or not? Make up your f/n minds & quit screwing the conservative voters over on this. While we’re at it, WR voters (that’s me, I vote conservative) are the new conservatives in Alberta. But they labor under the label of “social” conservatives. I’m not a friggin’ “social” conservative….I’m a friggin’ conservative & I vote for the closest I can get to conservative thinking & actions. They are sick to death of faux conservatives in the PC Party, but mostly sick & tired of RED Tory-should be-voting-for-green-NDP-or-LPOC, infesting that Party & calling themselves conservatives when they bloody well aren’t. That is why I question Kenny’s motives in even running to lead this dead Party. It’s DOA in most voter’s minds. In mine it is for sure!
Conservative = not NDP, or not Green, or not LPOC. Simple. Have the courtesy to spell out to the public why voting for any of these other Parties, or adopting some of their policies to sucker anyone to vote for your party because, well in your POV “It’s Better than the other guys”, will destroy this province & ultimately this country.
If you want to really know why I’m fed up with those calling themselves conservatives then follow this: Kenny was my federal MP, but now he’s quit the feds to run Alberta PC’s. That’s PROGRESSIVE Conservative. I don’t vote progressive anything. The federal .gov has yet to run a bye election to replace Kenny, while the fed LPOC have threatened to enforce a carbon tax at the provincial level & frankly, I’m now disenfranchised & about to be taxed w/o representation at my riding level & have nobody to bitch at about it.
The federal Party (that’s PC’s) are silent for the most part, content to collect their paychecks while not agitating much to replace Kenny in a bye election any time soon. WTF?. Meanwhile, back at the .prov ranch we dicker & scrap over petty sh$t on who can run for the RED TORIES over the carcass of the taxpayers in Alberta, because one conservative isn’t like the other conservative. Booo f/n Hoo.
Sh$t or get off the pot so-called Cons & that includes the WR, too. Times a wasting while dickheads pick scabs to 2019. The anti humans Party occupies the leg & is driving this province (with help from a couple more, plus the LPOC) into the gutter.
I don’t think I’m alone in my disgust with what folks call “politics” in this province & what’s going on particularly in Ottawa. I’ll settle for getting things settled here in Alberta first, but my patience is shot.
I’m not going to reply or dicker over your 45-50% vs 60% scenario. WR should run in every riding, ditch Glowbull Warming/anti carbon dioxide crap & if the pipeline issue isn’t settled & we can’t get our product to market to our satisfaction, get interfered with at any level economically, then go out of our way to make things damned difficult for those who oppose us economically. If that means tearing up the tracks, I’ve got a prybar sitting in my garage to help out.
Here, here, well said.
There is no way the PC’s will kick Kenney out.
Aw ‘cmon, tell us how you really feel.
Get rid of the Red Tories, there are ample place for these morons to park their BS.
