Calgary rec centre eyes turning off arena heaters due to carbon tax;
Turner said operators have estimated the impact of the levy would increase the facility’s annual natural gas bill, which last year was about $60,000, by about 33 per cent without any changes. More troubling is on the electrical side of the bill, also powered by natural gas, which is expected to see an estimated 20 per cent hike on its annual $360,000 bill.
They have their global warming to keep them warm.
Forecast temperature for Calgary next week: minus 31.
Cost benefit analysis on climate mitigation by the tax: none
Expected effect on global temperature from the tax: none
Who needs Rec Centres when the Earth’s future average temperature can be deferred from possibly heating up by one billionth of one degree by a few days. Have you selfish Calgarians no sense of perspective. Your highly paid public servants and their unions have ensured that you are in the best of hands and that you can trust the NDP to give you social licence to exist proudly along side your global brothers and sisters. Now, let’s all sing the Internationale!
Let those western bastards freeze in the dark?
Here in Ontario, a cold week. Wynne’s carbon tax clearly working. It would be nice to be a bit warmer though, perhaps ease back on the tax a few cents to adjust the temperature up a notch.
No sympathy. Albertans voted for this nonsense in this province and we’re all going to have to do our damnedest to survive this and the next Notley mandate.
Yeah, she’ll win again.
Rachel Notley thinks Hockey is something that comes out the rear end of a horse.
She believes that Socialism and Carbon Taxes should rise again because shit floats.
Just heard on the radio this morning that Region of Waterloo is expecting $800,000 increase in building heating costs due to the carbon tax, and Grand River transit $600,000 in additional diesel fuel costs to run the buses. Not sure much extra the electricity to run the new LRT that nobody is going to use will cost. Doesn’t matter on a per rider basis since divide by zero = infinity.
Jeez Canadians are stupid.
The Heat of Denier indignation doesn’t last.
The next utility bill should bring the wife to boil.
A Calgary rec centre being in the city no doubt has a number of patrons that voted for the Liberal mayor Nenshi or for the NDP. This serves them right while they pay for a fraudulent gas tax increase.
The Socialist/Liberal plan to put Canadians back into caves and eating grass is going according to plan.

Imagine their excitement when the first Soylent Green restaurant opens in Canada.
“No sympathy. Albertans voted for this nonsense…”
agreed… stupidity should be painful.

You have to let it happen; if the people who voted for this are sheltered from the pain, they will never learn. Let the food banks close. Let the arenas close. Let the cost of Starbucks triple. Oil companies could fight this, in a way; they could try to shift the entire carbon tax cost for the entire province onto Redmonton. Instead of everyone paying 15 cents more per litre, Edmonton pays $25 per litre extra, or $100 whatever it works out to. I would also tear up any contract I had with city bus services; red city councils must renegotiate, or the evil diesel simply stops.
Any chance the legislature will have the heat turned down and blankets are required for its member and coats….didn’t think so.
CBC interviewed people in Alberta at the pumps about the new Carbon Tax, and the majority of the people they put on the radio felt that it was a good idea and it will save the environment. It is so sad how many people swallow this crap hook, line and sinker, welcome to the new Ontario.

Why does a picture of tens of thousands of Venezualean Citizens lined up at their Border with Columbia Fade in & out with a picture of Tens of Thousands of Toronto/Mississuaga/Oakville Ontario Citizens lined up at the Q.E.W bridges with Niagara Falls And Buffalo, New York State?
While the Niagara Region Citizens, except for the Feckless Citizens of St.Catharines, are sitting in their Lawn Chairs beside the Q.E.W. cleaning their Hunting Shotguns & Rifles.
“Yeah, she’ll win again.”
Common sense dictates that the NDP will be completely wiped out in the next Alberta election. That being said, common sense would have prevented them from being elected in the first place so maybe common sense doesn’t even enter into the equation.
If, and that’s a big if, the conservative politicians in Alberta get their stuff together, Notley is a one term wonder. The PC’s and Wildrose have to put their differences aside and unite under a new leader. And by “new” leader, I do not mean the current crop of leadership candidates who can only be charitably described as less than inspiring. And that includes Brian Jean.
I have enough faith in Albertans that they will come to the realization that another Notley term would finish off the province.
First, common sense ain’t common.
Secondly, the right is fractured. Too many WR think the PCs are a criminal enterprise. Too many blues think the purples are too far right.
Thirdly, public service union membership is growing.
The suspect phrase here is “that they put on the radio”. We will never know how many interviews were rejected because the interviewees did not respond with an affirmative answer. Only the interviews that agree with what the media wants us to believe are fed to us and dissenting voices are not heard.
“that they put on the radio”
It’s funny how hard it is to find anyone who voted NDP yet everyone interviewed on CBC supports them.
“The PC’s and Wildrose have to put their differences aside”
It didn’t seem to work before. The thief Redford and the moron Stelmach both Conservative in name only signed up all the Marxist schoolteachers to hijack the nominations. Real conservatives were made very unwelcome in their own party.
The Wildrose Party started from disenfranchised Conservatives. The Wildrose is poised for power. The choice is one for the PC Party to make.
Since Ralph Klein’s first term in 1993, when has a conservative governed Alberta?
Once the provincial debt was paid off, the Klein government spending ballooned.
Then subsequent premiers Stelmach, Redford, and Prentice escalated government ineptness.
The Prentice budget was the same as the NDP budget with increased spending and increased taxes.
Anyone who thinks a revamped progressive party will fix what ails Alberta is self deceived.
Red Rachael … like all leftist politicians … HATE organized, competitive, sports. They know that competitive sports, like Hockey, are played mostly by conservatives. So it takes little effort or concern for to cut-off heaters at the “arenas” ohhhh mammmmaaa … the “arenas” … named after the Roman Arenas where people were fed to lions. Ohhhhh mammmaaaa … Red Rachael can’t support THAT, by warming the spectators of a “competition” …
Now … on the other hand … she WILL heat gymnasiums where people can play a nice cooperative game of “Earth Ball” … or practice peaceful Tai Chi … or make Yoga poses
I agree that Alberta governments after Ralph Klein were not models of conservatism, however subsequent premiers, although far from perfect, were light years better than Notley. She is composed of a dangerous mixture of stupidity, ideology and arrogance and her caucus is no better.
Let me fix that for you:
Since Harry Strom’s last term in 1971, when has a conservative governed Alberta?
I’m sure that one reason she selected hockey was that it’s Canada’s state religion. Undermine that and one undermines Canadian society.
Also, Red Rachel is a commie. Under communism, everyone’s supposed to be equal, which means that there are no winners or losers in sports. Everyone’s supposed to be a champion and get trophies. Real hockey, of course, doesn’t have that and must, therefore, be punished for being a counter-revolutionary activity.

“CBC interviewed people in Alberta at the pumps about the new Carbon Tax, and the majority of the people they put on the radio felt that it was a good idea and it will save the environment.”
Get a load of this guy, he thinks the media doesn’t selectively edit the news to push their favoured agenda.
Exactly ! The left HATES traditional values and religion. And what -more fundamental- Canadian value is there than Hockey, nay the religious fervor for hockey. I can only imagine Red Rachael had a high school crush on a man’s-man of a hockey player that was rebuffed. So she now is “paying-back” hockey (and Canadian society) for rejecting weirdos like her. There is nothing more dangerous than a social misfit in a position of political power. Such people are a clear and present danger to society.
No doubt there will be all sorts of unintended consequences from the NDP’s utopia tax, but there’s a bit of a problem with this article. I live in Calgary, my son plays hockey (midget) and I’ve been to Cardel (aka South Fish Creek) dozens of times in the last nine years — the heat is never on there. It’s one of the coldest rinks in the city. One game last year it was so cold in there that one of the moms on our team hunted down one of the rink guys, and he gave some bogus answer about the heat only being allowed to be on 15 minutes every couple hours, or something like that.
My guess is that the city rinks are already economising to pay for all of Calgary city council’s own utopian projects (like bike lanes instead of roads) — so I’m not quite sure what to make of this.
Or they are just afraid of the SSJW swarm that speaking truth will bring down on them.

I see I’m not the only one who thought of something like that.
posed a before Christmas Q to the local ontariowe liberal mpp re energy policy:
was it ever considered, that the Chirese COAL fired generators will wipe out any and all ‘green’ energy gains?
so far no response. I guess that means there is in fact no position in queens park on the situation of Chirese CO2 being carried by the jet stream to every nook and cranny of the world’s atmosphere. including ontariowe. or maybe not. maybe in liberal la-la-land such gaseous migrations don’t happen.
betcha they get re-elected.
I’m not quite sure what to make of this.
Every business will use the tax as an excuse to increase prices.
You are not heing fair Chip. There are lots of benefits. Sure not for the environment or the people suffering under the #Carbonattaxers but Big Progfraud is rolling in the green.

I am now in favour of a revolution and I don’t care about government censors they have to be removed as well as the rest of the socialists destroying our country.
it will be because they will have to, not an excuse, a reason brought on by idiot socialists and the stupid people of Canada.
