Their comment illustrating how the MASSIVE cigarette taxes in CA represents the tyranny of the majority is the BEST analogy I have ever heard for the Electoral college. The electoral college PROTECTS the minority. Of course CA has “elected” (by referendum vote) to keep raising and raising cigarette taxes higher and higher … because 85% of Californians don’t smoke. But is it “right” to PUNISH smokers by taxing the shit out of their bad habit ? Well … the vast majority of Californians think it is. And they have used their majority status to tyrranize the minority. I wonder if this same majority will vote to PUNISH marijuana smokers with $5.00/pack taxes ? I highly doubt it.
