Demographics were now driving immigration policy, not vice versa. State and city jurisdictions with large numbers of illegal aliens passed law after law to minimise or eliminate the distinction between legal and illegal status. The most egregious of those policies — and the ones that jump-started Trump’s campaign — were so-called sanctuary laws. These rules forbid state and city employees to co-operate with the already listless efforts of federal officials to enforce the immigration laws, shielding even convicted criminals from any possible risk of deportation.
Although local activists had complained about sanctuary policies for years, no one with power paid attention — until a young woman was fatally shot in July 2015 on the San Francisco Embarcadero by a Mexican drug dealer with seven felony convictions and five previous deportations. Kate Steinle’s murderer had recently been released from jail back onto the streets by the San Francisco sheriff, despite a request from federal immigration agents to detain him for deportation proceedings. Yet despite the belated national outrage directed at San Francisco for its sanctuary ordinance, the city reaffirmed that ordinance in May 2016 in a breath-taking demonstration of the rule that immigration demographics are political destiny — at least until now.
It’s more than that; sanctuary cities may become magnets for crime.
But the bottom line is that it again puts “Special Interests” above the well being of everyday people who are not insulated from the violence like the policy makers are.

Can we realistically round up ten million people and deport them ? No, we can’t but if we shut off the free ride we can stem the flow and some will go back. No more freebies. These state universities that give in state tuition to illegal should be sued and their federal funds taken away. How is it fair that a law breaking citizen from another country gets in state tuition and a tax paying citizen from another state doesnt. If they want illegals then they have to drop all out of state tuition policies.
We need to really toughten up voting procedures. If you are not a citizen you don’t get to vote. No more anchor babies that is just plain crazy.

How many of these illegals voted in the recent election? the numbers are probably not readily available, but 100% of them could be counted as Democrat votes. When you have the President encouraging them to participate as if they were American citizens, what can you expect. Disgraceful as it may seem, the video is still up. Sanctuary? Simple. Allow no federal funds to go to states that do not vigorously help enforce federal law. Also cut them off from the FBI crime computer and any other federal program including education.
Universities that did not allow military recruiting quickly changed their minds with a threatened cutoff of education funding for schools not cooperating.
Either you have an enforceable border or you don’t. If you don’t accept the consequences and don’t whine.
Never mind what Trump will do about Mexicans when Trudeau and company are going to allow them into this country without the visa requirement. We will be doing more than the Mexican Hat Dance here. This could be worse than allowing so many Syrian “refugees” in without proper screening in the long term.

Pretty much everything the left stands for these days is illegal/criminal, some of it is immoral.
I am not even being sarcastic, this is not jesting, that is what the left has become, a bunch of depraved outlaws who do everything to hurt western civilization.

Yes.
While living in the US as a legal immigrant with a green card, I was instantly deportable if convicted of any crime (DUI for example). I didn’t think that was unreasonable. Seeing what illegals got away with in Sanctuary cities was, however. Seeing others and being a legitimate contractor with state licensing requiring insurance and bonding (filing state and local taxes, WCB etc) trying to compete with beater cars filled with illegals with hand tools undercutting heavy equipment contractors was also disconcerting. And the pundits wonder where the Trump voters came from.

The Mexican is very adept at entering a country illegally and then staying. The Harper government was forced to slap visa requirements on ‘visitors’ from Mexico for this very reason. It was rumoured at the time that a lot of the criminal element were coming to Canada.
The libranos opposed the move by Harper (I think Jason Kenney was the minister at the time) and during the election pledged to drop the visa requirement.
So it’s wide open now. Expect to see a spike in Mexican ‘visitors’…..and a wall along the 49th.
