Reader Tips

Puppies today, 2 boys and 3 girls via C-section. Everyone is healthy but we’re having a bit of a time getting the mother to accept the pups, a not unusual circumstance with a Cesarean. What it does mean is she and they have to be under constant touch supervision lest we wake up to dead pups. An early Reader Tips and it’s going to be slow here for the next few days as we won’t be getting much sleep.

  1. Good on you! i’m typing c my left hand only because i’m cuddling sleeping little Astrid-the-Wonder-Dachshund in my right. a house is incomplete without a loyal four-paws following you around.

  2. Good luck Kate and Lance!
Oh and Mack: amen to that, without them the house feels empty (types with a Flattie warming his feat).

  3. All the best with this Kate and Lance.
I just noticed the blog header, “On the extreme right of the historical political spectrum stand the American Founding Fathers. On the extreme left lie 100 million dead people.”
The left would sure like to add to this total, all in the name of saving the earth from climate change by raising the cost of energy to heat their homes and raise crops to unaffordable levels for the poor.

  4. Another dachshund fan! My parents got their first dackel (as they’re nicknamed in German) in 1980. They’ve had several since then, all of them minis, most of them long-haired females. The current one, who keeps my father company now that my mother’s gone, is a lively short-haired male.
There were times when there hasn’t been a dog in the family, but it didn’t stay that way for long.
Good luck with the pups, Lance and Kate. My father’s dog was the runt of the litter and I think there may have been concerns about the critter’s health. I think that’s why my father got him. The dog’s now 7 and he’s quite a lively character. So much for being a runt!

  5. Quote: “President-elect Donald J. Trump said on Tuesday that he would “keep an open mind” about whether to pull the United States out of a landmark multinational agreement on climate change.
During his presidential campaign, Mr. Trump repeatedly said he would withdraw from the Paris climate accord. But on Tuesday, he said, “I’m looking at it very closely. I have an open mind to it.”

If he doesn’t follow through on his stand during the campaign, if he switches to the dark side on this issue I will hate him forever! Not pursuing a criminal investigation against Clinton I can accept, it’s common practice in presidential politics to not attack the one you’ve defeated even when they are obviously guilty. But on global warming he was the lone sane voice among political leaders, he is the only chance to save western civilization from that scam, and if he doesn’t stand firm, western civilization is toast.

  6. find the book …. Bless the dog from the monks of new skete Also the Art of Raising a puppy
Kate….. you are one of few I know who would appreciate the words…..
The bond between man and dog is ……………………….. hard to explain.
But my Golden Retriever hugs me…just saying

  7. a house is incomplete without a loyal four-paws following you around.
yup, my dog Max has been my constant companion since I helped him escape from the dog rescue ranch; they can be very loyal and protective when they find a human they can trust. We just got back from an evening walk and he’s lying on the floor next to me.

  8. “the issue of man-made global warming has taken on a whole new meaning: Yes, it is always man-made if the data are adjusted to fit the theory”
German Professor Examines NASA GISS Temperature Datasets
    …
Ewert painstakingly examined and tabulated the reams of archived data from 1153 stations that go back to 1881 – which NASA has publicly available – data that the UN IPCC uses to base its conclusion that man is heating the Earth’s atmosphere through the burning of fossil fuels.
    …
From the publicly available data, Ewert made an unbelievable discovery: Between the years 2010 and 2012 the data measured since 1881 were altered so that they showed a significant warming, especially after 1950. […] A comparison of the data from 2010 with the data of 2012 shows that NASA-GISS had altered its own datasets so that especially after WWII a clear warming appears – although it never existed.”
    …
Ewert uncovered 10 different methods NASA used to alter the data. The 6 most often used methods were:
    • Reducing the annual mean in the early phase.
    • Reducing the high values in the first warming phase.
    • Increasing individual values during the second warming phase.
    • Suppression of the second cooling phase starting in 1995.
    • Shortening the early decades of the datasets.
    • With the long-term datasets, even the first century was shortened.
    …
Using earlier NASA data, globe is in fact cooling

  9. Defections aren’t always welcomed and, often, the legislator in question is turfed out of office the next election. In her case, she apparently didn’t consult with her constituents, thereby bringing her loyalty to them into question.
Was she elected in her riding because of who she is or because of her party affiliation?

  10. https://ca.news.yahoo.com/state-department-warns-u-citizens-possible-attacks-europe-234243219.html
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The State Department on Monday issued an alert to U.S. citizens about a heightened risk of terrorist attacks throughout Europe, particularly during the holiday season.
…”U.S. citizens should exercise vigilance when attending large holiday events, visiting tourist sites, using public transportation, and frequenting places of worship, restaurants, hotels, etc.,” the statement said.
The travel alert expires on Feb. 20, 2017, it said.

Christmas 2016 in Europe, with St. Nicholaus and his reindeer wearing body armour and his helpers toting real H&K MP-5 submachine guns. Santa delivering asked for gifts to the needy, from brands like: Glock, Sig-Sauer,F.N., H&K and Walther.
Those gathering in the churches or town square to sing Christmas carols will be wearing the latest runway fashion in Level III and IV body armour.

  11. concrete is actually a carbon sink
From the “settled science” department and the University or California Irvine, comes this inconvenient fact. For years we’ve been told by academics that cement is another nasty global warming contributor, because of CO2 released during production.
“Cement manufacturing is responsible for 5 to 8 percent of global CO2 emissions,” notes Del Gado, a theoretical physicist who is part of Georgetown’s Institute for Soft Matter Synthesis and Metrology. “Although there have been calls for creating so-called ‘green cement,’ the sustainability and science communities have yet to find a way to reduce CO2 emissions while retaining the efficiency, durability and cost efficiency of cement.”
    Now, not so much.
Concrete jungle functions as carbon sink, UCI and other researchers find
Cement-based materials eventually reabsorb much of the CO2 released during creation

  12. Interesting question. The CBC didn’t allow commenting on the story, so I guess we can’t ask unless we contact her at the legislature! !!

  13. First off congrats Kate and good luck with the new brood.
Here is a link to an article that is sure to please some. I had thought that when the RCMP started recruiting for non-citizens to sign up we had reached the bottom of the well, seems I was wrong we could start digging deeper. This from the UK,

  14. “Mr. Trump repeatedly said he would withdraw from the Paris climate accord. But on Tuesday, he said, “I’m looking at it very closely. I have an open mind to it.” Dirtman
Relax! he also said that a real CEO doesn’t tell his enemy every detail of his battle plans. It also helps to ferret out the EU/UN master planners (bad actors)….This is a big deal to the EU clowns who cashed the Soros checks & funded Hillary’s UN…Forecasting a failure of the Euro has consequences beyond the USA, he has to be careful NOW….

  15. She was elected as an individual, not a cypher for a party. She has the right to cross over to the no future NDP and politically die with.

  16. Misogyny is the hatred of women, not the hatred of Sandra Jansen.
Furthermore the hatred she is experiencing is not because she is a woman it is because she is a floor crosser. She is deflecting which is what Progressives always do. Her response makes her even more disgusting and devoid of decency. NDP is the perfect party for this soulless POS.

  17. Misogyny is the hatred of women, not the hatred of Sandra Jansen.

  18. I did not know that a c section would cause the mother to reject, or not feed the pups, interesting. Good luck on keeping them going.

  19. Still, she did run as a representative for the PCs and it’s likely that’s why she was elected.
During the party’s heyday, it could have picked anybody off the street in a certain riding, had that person run as its candidate, and won. Being a public figure or celebrity of some sort might have been an asset, but it was the party affiliation that mattered more.
But, from what I’ve heard, she didn’t consult her constituents and her defection could be seen as going against their wishes. By-elections are often held when a legislator changes sides but there doesn’t seem to be any indication that there will be one in her riding any time soon.

  20. Sandra Jansen is a perpetual victim. She pays that card in every round.
If the ndp made promises to her ie. cabinet or plumb committee work expect open revolt in the upper party. Nobody can create havoc like Sandra. She is poison.

  21. There was also a comment (I think by Lorne Gunther) that Ms Jansen tried to defect earlier in the year, but was rebuffed. Only when the NDP took a hard look at Jason Kenny’s campaign and began to wonder if his “unite the right” would succeed were they willing to consider her.

  22. Van Jones is a good looking man of colour and a very natty dresser.
    Like Obama.
“Don’t judge a book by its cover” has almost no traction today.
Good advice for a young communist today: DRESS WELL, GROOM WELL. No Mao jackets.
    Wear expensive cologne.
Even Conrad Black has lots of nice things to say about Obama (piece linked at Instapundit).
And of course he also said that FDR “saved capitalism”.
Lot of bullshit brain bafflement out there Ken Deplorable (Kulak).
Your clarity of thought is a rarity.

  23. I agree. Liberals continually forget they got 39% of the vote in Canada. If they believed in proportional representation, they could start by showing it on government websites!!

  24. “Hollywood, sports celebrities and Democratic supporters” You are being redundant. It’s appropriate that Obama hands out participation medals for the losing Clinton supporters.

  25. “Obama’s America: heavy on the Hollywood…”
    Indeed:
“There’s not going to be a President Donald Trump. That’s not going to happen.”
    – George Clooney in Cannes, 12 May 2016
You mean a Hollywood celebrity might be a political know-nothing?
    Say it ain’t so!

  26. not so, she was elected as a representative of the conservative party, and became a servant to the people as such. People like you are as bad as the lefties. Trump won because people like you don’t get the politicians servitude aspect of their job. So those who voted for her should have the final say, not she or you!

  27. Actually, the science isn’t quite settled. It appears to work. (Similarly, the device based on the Woodward (or Mach) Effect appears to as well.)
The question is why it does and if it performs as advertised. Recently, a paper on the EM drive was published, allowing other investigators to examine the results and try their own machines. I downloaded a copy, but I haven’t read through it yet.
Many of us may remember the infamous “cold fusion” phenomenon from the late 1980s. First, the manner in which it was announced was controversial (a press conference, rather than by peer-reviewed publication). Second, many investigators built their own apparatuses, with mixed results. Few, if any, obtained results similar to those acquired by Pons and Fleischmann. To this day, what they found is still subject to debate.
Whether the EM drive turns out to be another cold fusion remains to be seen. By allowing others to scrutinize what they did, the investigators are willing to be proven wrong. But if they’re right, we may indeed have an easier way of getting around space.
Like Robert Heinlein once said: “Once you get to earth orbit, you’re halfway to anywhere in the solar system.”
