Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

So, the socialist that wants bike lanes, and Stalinist tenements rather than suburbs now if First Secretary of Saskatoon. The unions must be ecstatic.
Sad, but not unexpected, as I saw nothing but Clarke lawn signs all over the west end.
Unbelievable, Saskatoon just demonstrated the same behavior as Alberta voters did last year and will reap the same results, albeit on a smaller scale but much more disruptive on a daily basis. Wow! Too busy to vote, no idea who to vote for, why should I care, I’m happy with things as they are…..all these people have just had intercourse with themselves and will have to live with the results that someone else chose for them because they couldn’t be bothered to exercise their right to vote.
There is no level of governrnment that has a larger effect on daily life than the local municipal one. Where to park, how long to park, when to put your garbage out, what is classified as garbage, where to smoke “cigarettes”, how high your fence can be, we need bike lanes for the 75 hardcore people to use year round, getting the picture?
I’ve never liked Don Atchison as Mayor but I’ve always voted for him because I’ve always thought the alternatives were worse. I think I’ll be proved right.
That appears to be a tradition there.
I lived in Saskatoon in the early 1980s when Cliff Wright was mayor. I remember the municipal election that took place while I was there and the many of the candidates could easily be classified as, to be polite about it, eccentric.
I was driving home one day soon after the campaign was over and I was listening to a local radio station. There was some sort of news item or on-air commentary being read and a comment was directed to those who didn’t bother voting or care about the election: what would have happened if Wright had suddenly died?
Try harder Saskatoon – Vancouver has trumped you with crazy a long time ago.
Can we please stop this thinking that Canada is not only saveable from itself but is even worth it? The last hope of the Prairie West was SK but now it seems like it’s just the same suicidal folk.
At least now we won’t have Red Rose Country headlines anymore, right? Or should the hammer and sickle surround the wheat on the SK flag?

Charlie Clark elected mayor of Saskatoon- CKOM 650
“Carding, or “street checks,” may also be ended under Clark. He argued in several debates and interviews the practice was unacceptable, saying he doesn’t believe police should be stopping citizens without an investigative purpose.”

In one of Canada’s most dangerous cities, soon being a street criminal in a high crime neighbourhood or downtown or anywhere will be more… comfortable.
there ain’t no cure for stupid and the terminally stupid fall all over themselves to embrace socialism and the stealing of other people’s money.
And Sarina’s;
Car is a _____
vacation spot is _______
Home is _____ square feet
You get the picture….
Unions buy NDP ads. Unions staff NDP campaigns. NDP gives unions raises. NDP gives unions monopolies. Unions give more money to NDP. Epic circle jerk of conflict of interest there. To bad no one who has ever run for office has ever noticed it. To bad no judges have ever done anything about it. It is like they are all enemies of the people or something.
Twolf is the perfect example of why I don’t vote. “Oh voting is so important” but has only logical fallacies, no actual rational argument to back up the claims made. This dude is a flesh and blood tribute to the skill of the indoctrinators that staff the public school system. The majority of the world.
Not living in Saskatoon, I could really care less. You reap what you sow. The voters have essentially voted to have candy for supper. I do take great great satisfaction though that Pat Lorje was shown the door.
‘Hein stayed true to his campaign platform noting the city simply needs to stop writing hefty cheques and focus on core services like roadway repairs’
Well, we now know where talk like that from a Saskatoon mayorality candidate can take you; a distant 4th out of 4 candidates
‘saveable from itself but is even worth it?’
I’m right with you. When we elected Justin Trudeau as Prime Drama Teacher, I just throttled back. Earn less, pay less in income tax. I went to 80% part-time and I’m considering going to 60%. There is no use earning in this environment so you might as well ‘enjoy the decline’ as Cappy says.
Exactly! There were union ads on the radio and I think Unifor was behind them. The Bolos are making a concerted effort to take over all major city councils.
Baby Seal Clubber, yes, it was great to see Pat Lorje get the boot, but Clark and Sarina will be worse.
As Twolf says, the people of Saskatoon will pay for not informing themselves and staying home in this municipal election.
“Living in Saskatoon, Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis”
Reminded me to re-read treaty 6. Settlement, logging, and mining have precedence over Indian hunting and to void any portion of the hunting interest at all the government need only pass a regulation. It’s clear the treaty promotes development as opposed to stone age activities. Do judges read?
Saskatoon – Homeland of the Metis – not historically.
“hereby cede, release, surrender and yield up to the Government of the Dominion of Canada, for Her Majesty the Queen and Her successors forever, all their rights, titles and privileges, whatsoever, the lands included within the following limits ….”
“said Indians, shall have right to pursue their avocations of hunting and fishing throughout the tract surrendered as hereinbefore described, subject to such regulations as may from time to time be made by Her Government of Her Dominion of Canada, and saving and excepting such tracts as may from time to time be required or taken up for settlement, mining, lumbering or other purpose”
(7/25/2014)
“Sarina Gersher is a 24 year old passionate about sustainability, water security, climate change, environmental and social justice, and community capacity building. This spring, she completed her BSc Honours in Land Use and Environmental Studies with minors in Geographic Information Systems and Physical Geography, and soon after landed her current job as a GIS Analyst and Mapping Technician…”

One can only assume she wasn’t particularly strong in history.
I’m willing to bet that the majority of those who voted for Clark have no idea about his platform or agenda. They simply wanted change because change is good dontcha’ know. The stupidity of the average voter never ceases to amaze me. Every day I drive past large homes in the suburbs with two car garages and manicured yards and Charlie Clark signs on the lawn. Do these people not realize that Mr. Clark makes no secret of his disdain for this type of lifestyle? Don’t they know that if Mayor Clark had his way they would all be housed in massive highrises crammed into the downtown core with only a bicycle for transportation?
The Amalgamated Transit Union also went to bat for Clark in its radio ads whereby Atchison was portrayed as a heartless dictator hell-bent on imposing an unfair contract on poor overworked bus drivers.
Don Atchison was a very good mayor especially when considering the fact that he had to deal with a left-leaning council for all those years. We only have to look back to October 19, 2015 to know what the result is when a good man and a strong leader is turfed in favour of a buffoon simply because “change” was necessary. Personally I am tired of reaping what others sow.
Oh yeah. I forgot to mention one of the few positives about last night’s happenings. The insufferable Pat Lorje was finally shooed away from the trough. On a negative note however, her replacement could be just as bad … or worse.
When you run a business and the end of the month comes there has to be money left after expenses or you don’t eat. Mr. Clark has never experienced that and has little understanding for those who have. His whole shtick is his personality and his ‘vision’.
Good luck Saskatoon. You’ll need it.
she is a “think cartographer”????
any ideas?
There is no doubt this was a concerted action by the unions and NDP to gain a foothold wherever they could. Expect acramone between the council and the provincial government. The lesson here is similar to Alberta , where Notley was able to gain power with 40% of the 50% voter turnout. With the split she was able to gain dictatorship with the support of only 20 % of eligible voters. There is a severe penalty to be paid for voter apathy .
Atchinson did not control spending. We are getting a 90 million dollar art gallery and being told that there’s no money to fix roads (a special levy was set). It was time for a change. Clark May not be better. But he can hardly be worse.
By the way Pat L. was the union candidate. She got tossed.
