But the other problem with Twitter is that it’s the crystal meth of social media: Addictive, but unsatisfying. I’ve been spending a lot of time on it even though it doesn’t make me any money, and even though I kind of doubt it has much of an impact on anything. It’s a good way to chatter with the chattering classes, but (1) it doesn’t drive traffic; (2) its impact outside the chattering classes is basically nil; and (3) it encourages people to think they’re being ‘activists’ when they’re really just tweeting to a few hundred people.”

I’ve been saying the same since forever: the only people on Twitter for politics are people who want to hurt you.

It’s simple PETRONAS just needs to pay off greedy leftists and Liberal politicians as they would in Malaysia.
Things will start moving, for awhile.
As Canada slips towards a Third World economy & class, developing countries like Bumiputera Malaysia should take advantage and make a claim.

It’s not just Twitter. It is to the point where you might as well completely give up talking to liberals and progressives about politics and social issues. They don’t discuss or debate. Their range of “discussion” goes from self-righteous preaching to The Grand Inquisition (with personal and career assassinations). It’s pointless, or even dangerous, to engage this quasi-religious movement that wants everyone to conform, shut up, or die. Your choices at this point in time are enigmatic, noncommittal responses that let them assume you agree, silence or walking away whenever the sermons start. Then quietly, anonymously undermine liberals and progressives wherever you can – at the ballot box, magazines and tv subscriptions, voting with your feet, etc. Under this scenario, Brexit-like surprises will become more and more common.

i’m tired of people who feel the need to adopt things just because it’s the next “thing”. twitter is dead to me…

Call me a troglodyte if you will; but I don’t participate on social media. I work on a computer all day; and have no mind to keep looking at a screen after that.
Regretfully, I signed-up for Facebook so I could comment on a news story once. Big Mistake! Too much SPAM.
Anyways, I seem to be getting along fine without the additional distraction; not to mention, the media and bloggers I know can’t resist keeping me informed as to what is “trending”(that’s what she said).
All of that said, I do regret a little not sharing my zingers and incite with the world; but it’s probably for the best.

I like shooting my mouth off as much as anyone, however, as Clint Eastwood (Dirty Harry Callahan) said … “a man’s got to know his limitations”. It is clear to me that MOST ALL of the Twitter addicts, and Facebook prowlers don’t know their limitations. There are countless celebrities (and wanna-be celebrities) who are regularly forced to back-pedal and apologize for their politically-incorrect statements. It is actually quite entertaining, and feeds my schadenfreude quota weekly. I have no desire to make a public display of myself, and expose myself to advertising tracking (and worse) sponsored by these “essential” platforms.
Advances in Social media reminds me of advances in medicine. Just because we CAN do something, doesn’t mean we SHOULD do that thing. Technology without ethics is a very dangerous thing.

Twitter’s only positive attribute is for following breaking news. The rest of the time it’s a circle-jerking snark-fest.

its a debatable subject but if you look at the history of religious zealotry and political extremism you’ll see that the greatest hatred is reserved for former allies who, in any small way, deviates from the constantly shifting demands of true believers. Giving them a conservative or libertarian target to vent their self righteous fury against results in solidarity. Once those targets are gone their fury will cause them to destroy other true believers as they try to out social justice each other. Think of The French Revolution and Catholics vs Protestants. Let them tear themselves apart while undermining their efforts wherever possible.

Just thought of a Canadian example of successful passive noncompliance. The gun registry. For every aggressive, vocal gun control opponent there was a hundred or more gun owners who just quietly refused to register all or any of their rifles but maintained their FAC/PAL licences. Provincial governments and local police in western Canada turned a blind eye to the registry noncompliance. The registry was a big, expensive failure and public relations nightmare. The LPC overreach cost them politically.
I suspect Big Green will suffer the same fate, eventually, as energy poverty begins to bite in our cold, northern country.

A VERRRYYYY quiet study did ten years ago,by a police agency,found that for every gun registered, a THOUSAND were not. I guess that is a win according to Lieberals/SJW’s. And no,there never was any published results on the net. Wonder why? Remember the meme put out when the left proposed gun legislation? It would give the cops a heads up when going into a house/apartment? Funny. Any cop I know(and I know quite a few),automatically assume a weapon is present. It’s called self-preservation.

Remember when the cost of the registry was estimated at $200 million but ballooned to 2 billion (amount disputed). That was the biggest embarrassment and political nightmare. The LPC always defeat themselves with corruption, entitlement, arrogance, huge cost/budget deficit overruns and crony enriching tax and spend policies.
So far we already have: Questionable expenses, budget deficits ballooning, higher payroll taxes, new carbon taxes, pissing off western Canada politicians, energy industries and workers. Deja vu. Just missing “beer and popcorn” and “screw the West” type statements.

Glenn Reynolds doesn’t understand his own twitter feed. Sure it doesn’t make him any money because he doesn’t offer any product or service for which he could make money. Twitter is a vehicle for info distribution, not cash flow. Every Hollyrude celebrity has that figured out. It a place to hawk your wares and opinions. Glenn hawk’s EVERYBODY else’s wares and opinions, for free.
He’s a huge multiplier of opinion. Example: the Twitter account associated with my user id has about 40-50 followers and I follow about 75-80 people (dropped a bunch of incessant NeverTrumpers who were getting annoying (including Instapundit). But before the election fever blew everybody up, instapundit would frequently, about 50% of the time, sometimes more, sometimes less, retweet what I sent him. Instapundit has 57000+ followers. On one particular retweet, I got some follow-up snark from a some woman about the measly number of followers I had, looking at my twitter account. She had qaddressed her tweet to me directly, not through Instapundit and didn’t cc him. So she got no coverage on her snark. I pointed out to her that she got my tweet off of an instapundit retweet, didn’t need many followers, because instapundit shoved it out to 57K people, thousand more than she could do, so have a nice day, you’re welcome for the free lesson. It’s difficult to maker omney on retweets if you have off twitter product or service to pedal, but it sure can be an effective way to snowball a message if youb do it right. Kate disses twitter on a regular basis but she still uses it for sport – what she doesn’t do is use to promote SDA, and that’s a mistake. Ziegenfusz! (the captcha word of the day!)
