21 Replies to “What’s Really Going On With The OPEC Freeze?”

  1. Thanks to the Americans…their increased oil production; nixing Keystone; and the Iran nuclear deal letting them back into production…Thanks Obama for driving the price of oil down and ruining Alberta’s economy, thereby Canada’s…like a good neighbour…frack the bozos! At least that’s MY take on things….

  2. An OPEC freeze would be Xmas-comes-early for domestic producers (here). This isn’t 1973, and there are a lot of better alternatives to OPEC oil.

  3. At least Iran coming back online and taking increased market share is hurting the Saudis.
That’s the only silver lining that I see. Eat it, KSA.

  4. I think Canada, the US, and Mexico should put a $20 per barrel import duty on overseas oils. Then the Frogs would be demanding a pipeline, as would the Americans.

  5. The number one cause to the global oil price crash is the one nobody’s much talking about: stalled demand. Western economies in the EU and NA have been choked by taxation and regulation. Many capital projects across the industrial spectrum have been reduced or shelved – investment in business growth has stalled and demand for materials and services has collapsed. The only growth area is government which isn’t growth at all. Growing governments stagnates free enterprise and that effect is apparent everywhere especially when current accepted bureaucratic ideology is to accomplish just that: save the planet at the expense of wealth creation. The power brokers have gained enough of a foothold to enforce their vision of “less is more” on mankind. But like the British voters in “Brexit” people are waking up to the lie – that less is less no matter how much snake oil is sold with it. I’m really hoping that the Donald can win in November and help us change course to something much better.

  6. that’s it scar, think like a lieberal. More rules and regulation. I hope Canada’s whole oil industry tanks. Maybe than the electorate will get their heads, and bibles, outa their A$$

  7. Time to wean ourselves OFF “conflict oil”. No middle eastern oil purchases by the West. Let em sell it all to China. Restore full production, exploration, and exploitation of Western resources. Sorry Obama … I do NOT see either Saudi Arabia or Iran as equal members of the family of man. Their states live for DEATH and DESTRUCTION as urged by their ‘Holy’ Book.

  8. Based on price? No. The Saudis have the lowest cost production in the world. So what do you mean by “better alternatives”?
Scar, aside from violating a gazillion or so treaties, you are aware that Canada and Mexico are the two largest suppliers of oil to the US? Clearly this would be in our interest, unless the Americans decide to apply $20 tariffs on ALL imported oil. But what makes you think the US has the slightest interest in doing this?
Martin B is absolutely correct. It’s slowing growth, particularly China, plus new supply from Iran which is stifling any oil price increase.

  9. Actually the link title is misleading.
Suncor wants to abandon some lands where current regulations require them to process them completely regardless of the profitabilty of doing so. It is more a regulatory issue than the abandonment of oil sands production.

  10. Scar i agree with your sentiment but its wrong headed thats not free market capitalism…thats protectionism…peak oil peak oil ….i as a god fearing bible beleiving christian understand very clearly that oil and gas are they ARE renewable resources if techtonic plates are moving then oil and gas are being made.
We have just consumed the easy stuff , there is so much oil out there its crazy, the americans storages are full oil tankers sitting off the east coast waiting for prices to go up …im not sure they are still there but they were. anyway we have it so good here we just could not handle it and so we decided to elect stupid politicians and employ the stupidest policies. let them all compete our canadian govenrment is just a wet blanket on the canadian oil market so we will be dragging a boat anchor along to the race for awhile. we are a soft socialist country the conservatives in here wont admit it but they all love the health care welfare the help me government hand outs….we are such a weak nation ..we cannot even protect 1 of our boarders let alone 4 of them we have 600k military thats all military army navy airforce all in. finnland has 5million people they have 2million soldiers at the ready they could take canada in about 3 weeks…nowimagine china who has 35million infantry men ready to go thats just infantry soldiers.

  11. Martin, slowing demand for oil due to slowing growth, followed by over-supply, followed by price-drops.
What if the current economic growth is “normal” as some economists have suggested based on 200 years of history. A 1-2% increase in GDP is normal, not 4-5%. Donald Trump can stimulate the US economy, but only for a few years. When it reverts back to normal growth it will be recession due to over-stimulation.

  12. If all the experts say the price will not go up for years and oil will stay below $55 I’ll bet the other way. Cresent Point is at $20 bucks, seems like a good buy to me.

  13. Heh, freeze at their maximum…smoke and mirrors.
And yes, Canada and the US need to begin acting like sovereign countries again and put a tariff on foreign oil.
The hell with the one worlders who want us to be the world’s bitches. I suspect they wear man buns and carry shoulder bags as well…too useless to protect their own country.

  14. “and put a tariff on foreign oil.”
Zoolander, or rather his handlers, would never cross his base constituency by doing something like that.

  15. You just like making things up, don’t you? Finland’s entire wartime mobilization is 230,000, most of which are reservists, NOT 2 million. Do you have the slightest understanding of what an order of magnitude is, and what it means to be out by that much?
And your 60K Canadian forces did NOT include reservists.
Have you looked at a map lately? Just to pursue your idiotic analogy, just how are they supposed to get here?

  16. cgh the finnish military has at the ready (due to conscription ) 2 million soldiers maybe not active duty but they can be called and if they were all to be called to arms they would have 2million soldiers ….finnland is not like canada they remember what russia did .
Sorry rob and cgh …iwas wrong sadly how pathetic …60k to defend 34million ….we are sitting ducks …

  17. please inform me, just what a Bible in anyone’s a ss has to do with anything except your personal dislike of Christianity?
