You don’t understand.

A social license means that the enviro-whacko’s call all the shots.

Steven Guilbeault, spokesman for environmental group Equiterre, said he has similar concerns even though his organization, as well as municipal leaders, First Nations representatives and others, also met with commissioners in advance of the hearings.

  1. “Steven Guilbeault, spokesman for environmental group Equiterre, said he has similar concerns even though his organization, as well as municipal leaders, First Nations representatives and others, also met with commissioners in advance of the hearings.”
Translation: Gee, I guess I shouldn’t have met with those guys…I’m really sorry for all the unnecessary delays this is going to cause…even though I’m all for unnecessary delays…

  2. “We get special access, you don’t.”
    Yup.
It’s not that all Canadians aren’t equal in the eyes of the government; it’s just that some are more equal than others.

  3. A common tactic of the left: delegitimize the opposition in whatever way works, truth be damned. Having seen this type of behaviour for years, I am pessimistic for the future. The obstructionists claim to be concerned about potential spills/leaks into the Ottawa and St. Lawrence Rivers, but are blissfully & willfully ignorant of the much more catastrophic potential if an oil tanker were to leak, sink or run aground (the Ottawa River may be safe from that, I think, but the St. Lawrence Seaway supports tankers carrying oil and other petroleum products already — the port of Montreal handles 100s of such vessels every year).
What many people who support the anti-pipeline initiatives do not realize is that risk can never be zero, but in the past decades that risk has continually diminished through technological and regulatory innovations. Unfortunately it seems that we have entered a political era under Prime Minister Shirtless that will regulate the production and transport petroleum products into oblivion, regardless the technological improvements. People want zero risk and cheap gasoline, and Prime Minister Selfie is more than happy to promise that.

  4. “Perceptions are very important (and) right now there is a perception that there is a bias.” Steven Guilbeault,
Yes! the Bias is the problem with all Environmental issues..Why does any project need to be seen through the eyes of these useless probability cockroaches.

  5. Falls just around the corner but already the green nuts are falling the various eco-wackos and their Global Warming/Climate Change mantra and frankly we need to see a snowy hard cold winter to set in and freeae the delicate little toes of all those anti, fracking, anti drilling Keep it in the Ground Morons

  6. Does anyone seriously imagine that Energy East will do any better than Northern Gateway, TransMountain, or Keystone XL?

  7. If it is too dangerous for a pipeline to run alongside and crossing the river, then it is too dangerous for the tanker traffic bringing crude up that same St Lawrence – ban river traffic, shut down the existing pipelines into Montreal, close the refineries/ petrochemical plants in Montreal. That will have the largest beneficial impact in reducing Montreal’s CO2 footprint.

  8. No, I don’t. The deck is stacked against the movement forward against any of these projects until enough of the people realized what is at stake and the fraud that all these Luddites are espousing.
If these same people would have been around a century ago, there would be no coast to coast rail-line, or a Trans-Canada highway.
SlapShot, cockroaches is a perfect descriptor for these enviro people.

  9. I think someone misspelled Socialist License.
Where is the license for economic disaster and corruption?

  10. All I ask of the Eco-leftists, is that they actually LIVE according to their principles. That they LIVE like the peoples of the First Nations. Ohhhh noooo … not like the First Nationers live TODAY ! … but how they lived in the romanticized eons before the pale faces arrived. No big screen TV’s, no sanitation, no I-phones, nada. When they actually LIVE according to their principles … I will give them 5sec. consideration.

    Socialism.
    The Emperors New Clothes.
The only way we are going to cure these incredibly stupid and dangerous people and their delusions, is to give them what they say they want.
I support the new Gulags for the Carbonphobes.
I cannot wait to see Saint Suzuki ,Stephan Dion and Idiot May living their dream.
    (Based on their own words)
Though I cannot imagine a carbon based life form, living a “carbon free” life.
Given the current hysteria and absolute stupidity governing Eastern Canada, Western Separation looks more than attractive,it appears to be essential to the survival of Western Canadians.
The only way Eastern spending and policies make any sense,is if they intend for some one else,ie the rest of Canada, to pay the bill.

  12. Ken, Slap Shot:
Comparing environuts to cockroaches is an insult to cockroaches.

  13. When all the pipelines are approved and the Liberals refuse to allow them to be built, the new Conservative government in 2019 should pass legislation and, if necessary a constitutional amendment to allow the pipelines to be built. Compensation to natives should be paid in kind for losses of historical income. The Indians should be given real estimated losses of beaver, muskrat, etc. skins, moose, elk etc. carcasses, salmon and whatever other losses. Considering a pipeline route is 50 feet wide and 1000 miles long, what are we talking 6,000 acres or 10 square miles? A 2,500 miles pipeline might take 25 square miles – not.

  14. Environmental groups are not “stakeholders”. They shouldn’t even be present at any meetings.
Only their elected Green Party MPs should be present.
By the way, does anyone remember how many seats the Green Party won?

  15. “By the way, does anyone remember how many seats the Green Party won?”
One too many, in my view.

  16. cgh;
When the economic sh*t hits the fan the feds will do whatever it takes to employ people and increase government revenue. That effort could range through many different efforts but infrastructure, especially pipelines (self funded), will be a no brainer. The ‘no brainer’ comment might be counter intuitive considering those in power but unruly masses gets attention.
During the up coming mess these ‘progressives’ will be implementing new election rules by arbitrarily axing ‘first past the post’ without a plebiscite.
If I could short the Canadian economy more than by buying gold I would do so. When the CDN$ sinks to $1.70 USA everyone will get some idea. We are already in a huge balance of payment deficit which will only grow enormously. Inflation to follow. Housing collapse. Retirements collapsed.
Sorry for being so cheery on a Monday morning.

  17. No problem. Bring the end of the pipeline to Cornwall, the old Domtar grounds would make a great terminal. Load up barges and tow them down the St Lawrence. Or just keep pushing freight trains of hundreds of tank cars through a thousand peaceful little towns like Lac Megantic.

  18. And let’s not forget the Montrealers accepting attitude of their daily dumping of excrement into the St. Lawrence. Fastidious lot.

  19. Give them a ‘social license’ and the next thing you know, they will also want ‘social credit’.

  20. The green slime would have no concerns about the make-up of the review board if they’d been able to pick the members themselves. We also must remember that the end game of the slime is not the safety of oil transportation but the total elimination of all oil drillig & use. In their fantasy hell most ordinary people are all dead or living in caves huddled around a pixy dust powered light bulb, all but them of course since they are the elite and therefore superior to all us lesser humans. Imagine being ruled by an entire cadre of Big Bang Sheldons.

  21. “When all the pipelines are approved and the Liberals refuse to allow them to be built, the new Conservative government in 2019.”
    1) The Liberals won’t approve them. They’ll do what Obama did: leave them in regulatory limbo for years upon years, until either the company gives up, or Pony finally marches out to give a sort-of-mournful speech declaring that the environmental risk is too great and that the pipeline will not be approved. Sometime around 2022, maybe.
    2) You are sadly mistaken if you think the Conservatives are forming government any time before 2023 at the earliest. If they ever get to form government again after the Liberals ram through whatever election change they think will maximize their chances of making permanent their seats at the trough, that is.
And a constitutional amendment? Hah. Old papa Trudeau was far too devious to leave us a constitution that has any realistic chance of ever being amended. The ceaseless squabbling of the provinces will see to it that this country never agrees on how to amend it.

  22. Montreal is a very accepting city. They will accept a very large amount of money if a pipeline is built anywhere near there.

  23. I agree with you. When the funds stop flowing to all these parasitic groups who add nothing of value to the economy or country , when they are hungry, their attitude will change . With the Liberals in charge we may get there much more quickly than anyone expects .

  24. Absolutely, the green theocratic, luddite and nihilistic dogma of the institutional left is in full dominance in Canada. The ovine masses, mostly oblivious to the blatant hypocrisy in what passes for leadership are blindly living off the avails of an industrial society largely dependent on fossil fuel energy. Until kinetic reaction is acceptable to the masses against their neo-theocratic oppressors (inquisitors), observant rational Canadians can do nothing but enjoy the decline. Until then, Butts or his epistemological equivalence is the Arch Bishop of Canada and his vain and witless bum-boy is the skipper of a sinking ship.
“Social License” is newspeak for the “public good” paradigm which has been used as rationalization for every manner of large scale statist horror perpetrated against humanity.

  25. we need to see a snowy hard cold winter to set in
We may get that wish. There’s fresh snow on the mountains across the valley. Winter’s coming early.

  26. The Indian Band Councils depend on federal government revenue.
So does Quebec who, via the federal equalization process, spends wealth generated by other provinces for much of it’s operating budget.
When the federal government runs serial deficits to continue shoveling money at favoured political groups, who lobby to reduce wealth creation.
It is sheltering them from the economic consequences of their actions.
This is only temporary, as all citizens end up paying for government corruption.

  27. Larry;
I laugh when I hear ‘equalization’ as if Quebec exists in anything close to equal. They have been treated in a superior position most of my life. What they receive in equalization payments simply scratches the surface. Their special status on simple stuff like the Milk Marketing Board sends Billions$ to Quebec.
No doubt in my mind that the vitriol spent on the Harper government, a government dominated by western politicians, was more about the threat of losing political power than anything else. Ontario manufacturers resented the Canadian petro $ but we can all see that the deep seated rot in that sector has more problems than the $. The Alberta oil industry became a target as it represented the increasing economic power of Western Canada. Eventually the West will not make further attempts to placate the power elite in the east.

  28. Hear, hear! Well said. That is exactly how it will play out. As long as airhead Shiny Pony has pretty hair he will remain Soros’ and Butt’s front man.

  29. The liberals can stand accused of deliberately sabotaging the Canadian economy.

  30. “Social license” is an anti-concept, like “social justice”, “dignity”, “employment equity”, “nation-building” and all the other crap along the same lines.
