Sunny Days, My Friends!

Global News;

Speaking in Sudbury, Ont., Bill Morneau made his first public comments since Statistics Canada released grim numbers last Friday about the country’s labour force and its international trade performance.
The federal agency said Canada lost 31,200 jobs in July, while its trade deficit with the world swelled to a record level of $3.6 billion in June.
The Canadian economy also contracted 0.6 per cent in May — the country’s worst one-month performance since the darkest days of the Great Recession seven years ago.
Morneau did not mention any of these figures to his small audience of business people in Sudbury…

  1. And, I bet that not one person in that small audience of business people raised the issue with him. More interested in programs that would allow them to get taxpayer dollars for their advantage.

  2. “Morneau did not mention any of these figures to his small audience of business people in Sudbury…”
    Of course not. His job is to obfuscate,confuse, and baffle the plebes with lies and BS. He definitely should run for office. And how much was he paid for this gong show?

  3. Something more hilarious than small business people thinking they will get a better deal from a Liberal government. It’s military and veterans thinking the Liberals would serve them better. The military isn’t exactly loaded with the brightest.

  4. I noticed that while failing to mention job losses and trade deficits, Moroneau praised the change in the CPP. People will be able to retire with greater benefits under the new rules. That is, if they can get a job in the first place. We’re circling the drain.

  5. And no liberal MSM dares call out a Liberal Minister to take responsibility for an increasingly bad situation within their portfolio. The butter that coats the propagandist’s bread might disappear otherwise. If the Liberals can lay off large numbers of less useful climate scientists…

  6. If you were a Muslim, this would be a good example of kitman. In kitman, you allow the other person to draw their own conclusion by leaving out key facts which would be critical to formulating a correct view of a problem. Your intended victim leaves happy and feeling secure when in fact the floor under their feet is shifting and about to collapse.
    The minister doesn’t even begin to understand the true nature of the long-term problem and its repercussions or he wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing that his Liberal regime, present and past, is solely and entirely responsible. Or he is warped enough that he just doesn’t care. Both points of view are dangerous, apathy or ignorance – which coincides with most Canadian voters – we don’t know and we don’t care.
    And let’s not even venture into a discussion of unfunded civil employee pension mandates…

  7. No wonder the Liberals want to push through election reform ASAP. Can’t let incompetent failure interrupt their divine right to rule.

  8. The US exceeds job creation targets during the same period that Canada’s economy contracted. Canada was expected to create 10,000 jobs but instead lost 31,200. Ontario alone lost a net 36,000 positions.
    Of Canada’s 10 largest monthly trade deficits of all time, five have occurred this year alone. And we’re barely into August.
    Non-energy exports continue to decline, even with the magical Canadian dollar being at an export-friendly level.
    This will ostensibly stick to the tag-team of Trudeau and Morneau, and it won’t be pretty unless things turnaround quickly.
    I would think that Morneau would bail on all this gubbermint stuff sooner than later if only to protect his personal and eponymous company name brand from being attached to downgrades, recessions, and poor financial performance. He was probably the only guy Canadians thought could be the sensible adult at the cabinet table to keep all the rookies, activists, and retreads in line.
    If the economy continues to go south, the entire Trudeau House of Cards falls.

  9. If they were called out on it, they’d just blame Harper/global economy/Fort Mac fires/Harper/low price of oil/Harper. And the media would swallow it hook, line, sinker.
    Such is life under a Liberal government in Canada.

  10. Alan;
    While the USA has a fundamentally stronger and more capable economy I doubt anyone seriously thinks the USA has a 5% unemployment rate. American employment stats are not calculated the same way. The participation rate in the USA is at a 35 year low I believe.
    IMHO Canada has ‘red flags’ waving on most measures. Export orientated economy that is seriously underperforming since the oil price collapse. Private infrastructure spending, ala the pipelines and Fort Mac have been chased out of the country. That leaves government to spend money on infrastructure which will not earn income. The assumptions made by the Liebels are disingenuous and ultimately will threaten the unity of this country.
    The massive failure of the industrialization project known as Ontario continues to decay. The Liebel campaign was ran on re-establishing primacy and yet those numbers show failure every month. I do expect the feds to again cut interest rates in a desperate hope to pump exports.
    Another ‘red flag’ not receiving coverage is the threat to NAFTA by the USA presidential election. Both Trump AND Clinton have both called for a tougher deal. A less favorable deal could easily destabilize Canada.

    Whether in complete thrall to Donald or to Hillary, Canadian acolytes of this “Gruesome Twosome” fail to judge them in terms of our own national interests rather than those of the US.
    By that measure, neither candidate looks particularly good for Canada.

    I agree. But Zoolander will probably prefer to be doing selfies with President Clinton rather than President Trump.
    I should be noted that BJ Clinton was a NAFTA signatory(December 1993)which he signed along with Zoolander’s Uncle Jean, so if Hillary is making noises about axing or changing NAFTA she would be undoing some of her husband BJ’s legacy policy.

  13. Bill Morneau has his own company, Morneau Sheppell. I recently looked at its financial numbers from last year and I didn’t particularly like the balance sheet. As I recall, there were significant deficits or losses 2 years in a row.
    And he’s our finance minister?

  14. In our new Canada a “have” province is one that receives transfer payments.
