Anybody surprised? Liberals cite economic benefits after paying $33M to stay in F-35 program
The Liberal government is pointing to the potential economic benefits to explain why it quietly paid nearly $33 million last month to help develop the F-35 stealth fighter.
The Liberals promised during the last election campaign not to buy the F-35, but made the payment anyway to keep Canada as one of nine partner countries in the program.
I’ve never liked Meryl Streep’s movies and, now, after her speech at the DNC tonight, I finally have a reason to stop watching them altogether.
Alberta asks court to quash ‘secret’ clause that benefits power companies http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/alberta-asks-court-to-quash-secret-clause-that-benefits-power-companies-1.3694460
These NDP idiots in Alberta are whining (and suing: whom again?) over a couple of billion paid extra in a few years and yet THEY will force Albertans to fork out between $30 and $50 BILLION in the next 14 years to shut down coal and build thousands of ineffective wind turbines.
The stupidity of these clowns just gets crazier by the day.
In keeping with tonight’s theme, I’m pretty good at making beer. I’ve been a homebrewer for more than 20 years and I can make a batch for far less than I’d pay for it in a liquor store.
I lived in B. C. when Dave Barrett’s NDP took over, I was in Saskatchewan during the final months of Al Blakeney’s premiership, and now I’m in Alberta. The current provincial government has to be the most incompetent of them all.
NDP = Numbskulls, Dimwits, and Peabrains
How about a referendum to defeat the government of Alberta before they create enough damage that it will be too late through traditional elections?? It would be a first in Canada?? Better yet, how about an independent state that includes Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba??
A state that would operate with a board of directors like GM, Ford or Exxon. Every citizen becomes a shareholder in resources, private corps extract, refine oil, uranium and potash, and distribute finished products. Once a year, board of directors is reviewed, new directors can be appointed if shareholders desire. Bet Trudeau and Notley won’t show up at Calgary Stampede.
Considering that Red Rachel has a majority in the provincial legislature, plus the PCs and Wild Rose are butting heads, a referendum would be highly unlikely.
I wouldn’t be surprised, though, if there will be another western separatist movement like there was some 30 years ago.
They are going to buy the F35. Trudeau said they could just walk away, but I read elsewhere there is potential for billions in penalties. They will dance deflect pretend to open it up, but the F35 is the plane. What a bunch of fools.
It’s Currington. Billy Currington is good at drinkin’ beer.
That song was first recorded 50 years ago. Like many others and many years ago John Lee Hooker was our first introduction to the Blues. For a guy with no formal education who shared the same name as a Confederate general he did pretty well for himself.
Alarm bells should be going off. The National Post today had an article by Kevin Libin about a Stats Can paper/proposal to increase Stats Can powers and put it beyond the reach of politicians. This is step 1 in establishing a technocracy . . . when the bureaucrats and not the elected politicians are in charge of policy and regulations are used to control the population. Obviously, the Liberals are pushing for this or the paper proposing this would not have been released. Does anyone remember the article about the reams of data that the UN wanted from countries? I can easily see the now MANDATORY long-form census doubling or tripling in scope. In addition, they seem to be after coercive ways to get companies to submit data that will further intrude on privacy. I think the paper is part of an initiative to restructure Canada for UN globalist compliance. I know I tend to rant on “globalism” a lot, but there is definitely a globalist agenda out there and the Liberals are helping to implement it. Too many Canadians are naive and trusting of both the Liberals and the government bureaucracy. That is how freedom is lost. http://business.financialpost.com/fp-comment/kevin-libin-statistics-canada-makes-shrewd-power-grab

AHA. So YOU are the one spreading the socialist/commie crap around Canaduh, especially in the west (OK…BC was commie from the git-go).
That’s neat.
IMO the 1964 film ‘Your Cheatin Heart’ is still the best movie about Hank Williams.
Plainsfyre;
In the early days of Reform there was a lot of talk about the Swiss canton form of government. Granted it is a much smaller country both physically and population. I believe there are 13 cantons and each have referendums where all citizens get a say by vote.
Will there be a western separatist movement? Actually Reform was started by Manning as a response to a burgeoning separatist movement. “We want in”. Well how did that work for us? When one considers what Turdeau has done/started since his election the political response in the west seems to be centered in Brad Walls government. I have heard few calls for separation.
Again harping back to Reform. In the early days many of us wanted provincial wings. The idea being that control of the 4 western provinces would be a force that eastern Canada could not ignore. Manning was never for that and eventually forced a vote to take Reform national. I for one voted against it but the party vote was ‘reported’ at almost 95% to move east.
I still consider this idea valid. Elect ‘Reform’ MP’s and MLA’s, gain control of provincial governments which can in turn challenge the feds both politically and in the courts. Form united positions on the country’s direction. Install conservative institutions. This is the only way I can see any change happening but it takes a political will that I question being there. Of course the alternative is the eventual economic collapse which will happen because of debt both in government and citizen.
” shared the same name as a Confederate general”
Maybe you are thinking of Confederate General HOOD. Hooker was a Union General.
Not that any of this is really important but according to Sherman who relieved him of command during the move toward Atlanta, Hooker was an able General but a total ass to work with.
I don’t believe the full effects of the commodity downturn have taken place yet . A significant number of older people I talk to have expressed a need to separate since Trudeaus election. Younger people have taken their payouts and believe this is a bump in the road , even a welcome break for some , before we go back to the way it was . As those packages run out you may see a growing dissatisfaction if those well paying jobs aren’t available.
I was thinking of the Lee part of the name.
Maybe his parents used that name only because so many others in the south used the name.

While the link works, some commenters are raising the possibility that it is actually old news about the dump from a few days ago. Sorry if that turns out to be the case.

I home-brewed for about 10 years, but haven’t brewed in a long time. A couple of brews really stand out in my memory: one where i used Maple syrup as the source of sugar and another when I made mead. Mead is just honey, hops and champagne yeast – you can brew it to 12 or 13% alcohol pretty easily.
For a while, I made my brew from scratch, which meant getting all the ingredients and then cooking them. I managed to make several batches of lager and pilsner with at least 4.5% alcohol yield.
Unfortunately, it became too expensive for me and I went back to using beer kits.
Just as an aside, has anyone else stopped reading pjmedia and nationalreviewonline?
Who is George Will or those other guys?
Some comparisons on economics of brewing in Oz.
5 Coopers makings plus sugar for 120 litres – about $A90
Cost of commercial equivalent – about $A700
I once calculated that I could make a case of beer for about 2/3 the cost of the lowest-cost brand that a liquor store charges here in the city. That includes bottles and caps but not, of course, my labour.
One advantage with homebrewing is that one can customize a batch. All one needs are the standard ingredients (malt extract, hops, yeast, and water) and a recipe. Anything more is optional, so one can add a bit of something extra, such as roasted malt, to change the colour or flavour.
One can also start with a kit and modify that, though I haven’t tried that.
I’ve been homebrewing for more than 20 years and have made, by my estimate, at least 60 batches. I’ve only discarded 2 of them due to my carelessness and, both times, that happened early in the process. I haven’t thrown one out for about 15 years, so I must have done something right.
