The return of the Russian icebreakers.
The new ship is a 6,000 ton (deadweight), 85 meter (180 foot) long vessel that can handle ice up to a meter thick. Meanwhile Russia is building three Artika class nuclear powered icebreakers. These are much larger (173 meters long and 33,500 tons) vessels that can handle ice three meters thick. With a crew of 75, Artika class ships can stay at sea for up to six months at a time. Currently Russia has the largest icebreaker fleet (41 ships), followed by Finland (seven), Sweden and Canada (six each) and the United States (five).
Polar 8. Canada needs nuclear; nuclear power, nuclear naval vessels (subs, ice breakers). Too bad cult programming in public education teaches anti-nuclear Lysenkoism so successfully.
What a waste of money! What’s wrong with those Russians? Arctic ice is disappearing, they should be de-commissioning icebreakers, not building new ones.

Well, the sun has gone cold (Solar cycle activity lowest in 200 years, blank as a billiard ball they say) and ENSO has switched to La Nina.
Both are associated with a cooler earth but neither will stop our fraudulent proggy governments from stepping up to the challenge of global warming by attacking CO2.
So we will face cold, killer winters as the greenies destroy our ability to affordably heat our homes.

I am unsure why we would need more than one icebreaker accessible to the Western Arctic and one accessible to the Eastern Arctic. We should post a restricted shipping season that does not include a full sailing of the Northwest Passage and anyone who gets stuck should suffer Franklin’s fate or pay the full cost of rescue.
They’ll just “plot” temperatures however necessary to fantasize new heat records.

Scar, our ability to access and service people who live up north is related to the claim that they are Canadians living on Canadian territory. These people aren’t much different, culturally and probably not linguistically, than the ones who live in northern Russia.
If we can navigate the north passage only part of the year and Russia can do it year round then they can begin to claim, plausibly, that this territory is Russian.
How many seals,orcas,whales,porpoises,and polar bears are these ice breakers killing off? Where are all the limp wristed animal rights activists? Coffee in Vancouver? With Greenpeace? Hypocritical aholes.

85 meters is closer to 280 feet than 180 feet.
Only icebreaker in Canada I ever heard of was the venerable Sir.John A. MacDonald, named after a popular Toronto Maple Leaf, which a neighbour of ours worked on as a steam engineer in the early 1960’s, out of Churchill, which was also named after a Toronto Maple Leaf.

The CCG claims we have a total of 15 icebreakers in 3 classes,all named after hockey players or politicians.

That means three vessels as a replacement is always required.
