U.S. wind power company seeks $475M in NAFTA claim
Canadian taxpayers are facing a $475-million free-trade claim from an American company that alleges the Ontario government invented scientific pretexts to stop wind farms in the Great Lakes.
That’s on top of a $500-million lawsuit against the province by Ontario-based Trillium Power Wind Corp. over the same “temporary” ban (now five years old and counting), and an Ontario Provincial Police investigation into whether government officials destroyed emails and documents that should have been kept as evidence.

Those filings include extracts from numerous emails government officials sent each other, complaining about how frustrating it was to try to come up with scientific explanations for things the politicians had chosen to do for political reasons.
The emails were obtained by Windstream through access to information and during the course of document production as part of the legal proceedings.
“Because it’s an international case, Ontario’s interests are represented by federal-government trade lawyers, and the federal government will have to pay the penalty if they lose. Windstream had a speculative project and was treated no worse than anybody else, they argue.”
Now that’s just messed up. Ontario politicians screw up, but the rest of Canadian taxpayers may be on the hook for it? We have no say in electing these bozos, but a responsibility to clean up their horrible mess.

No problem. Let them build all the windmills they want on two conditions; there will be no subsidies at all and a bond must be posted for the eventual cost of removal of every tower and its base down to the lakebed.
If they have to pay for the eventual removal and they can’t fleece the taxpayer they won’t build a single windmill.
This case is about settlement cash, not winning a tribunal victory.

A quick count of lawsuits involving Wynne’s Liberals and Wind companies, include this $475m, T B Picken’s claim for $600m, and Trillium Power’s $500 m. A rough total of $1.6 B for wind plants not constructed in the Great Lakes. Added to the $1 B for 2 canceled gas plants, and one can paraphrase Congressman E Dirksen, to say that this could soon add up to some real money. Some of these suits are shaky, particularly the Pickens’s one; international wind hucksters have identified Ont as an easy mark, based on the settlement for the gas plants.
If one adds in the Billions wasted on land based wind plants that did get constructed,it is easy to claim that wind power will be the biggest, economic boondoggle ever inflicted on Ont taxpayers.
Just a portion of that amount would have purchased green hydro energy from Quebec for decades, meeting all Ont’s needs, and avoiding the environmental disaster of rural industrial wind plants.
Quite the legacy for McGuinty and Wynne.
Anyone interested in a good mystery should investigate Trillium wind, it is a ghost, one employee, no assets, no completed projects, no projects underway,no engineering dept, no sales dept, just one guy,with no qualifications to build anything. Somehow this company was awarded billions in Government contracts, obviously who ever was supposed to investigate the background of Trillium, didn’t, now they have shredded the paperwork. This company stands to get billions in taxpayer cash is run out of a “by the hour” office space, whose receptionist often doesn’t see him (John Kourtoff) for months. Anyone who works in the downtown district of Toronto, visit 130 King West, suite 1800,and visit the vast holding of a company that stands to make billions from a lawsuit.

Chump change! Ontario the most indebted constituency in North America! Yes and re-elected with a majority. The idea they could possibly foist this NAFTA calim on all of Canada is no surprise. It is the culture of this country to accrue the resources to the center. Almost a simple tithing process that goes on almost unquestioned.
