Jonathan Kay was a colleague of mine at The National Post for many years, and we have shared a stage and, on one occasion, a synagogue podium together. So I’m reluctant to go full shagged-sheep on an old friend. I will, however, observe that the great liberal virtue of “empathy” appears to be all but entirely absent among a certain type of Toronto male. Perhaps I’ve spent more time in Continental cities than Jonathan has, but the reality of what happened in Germany that night is very vivid to me. To translate it into local terms, given that Toronto is roughly two-and-a-half times the size of Cologne, it’s the equivalent of about 1,200 women being sexually assaulted on New Year’s Eve in front of Union Station or Queen’s Park.
Would that not be …unusual? And worthy of note?

It’s a well-deserved spanking.

Google the rape of Europe, Muslim men have been raping women in Europe at pandemic levels whilst liberal governments’ cover-up the epidemic whilst sniveling “Islamophobia”. Kay is the reason I no longer subscribe to the Natti-Post.

  6. Good essay by Mark Steyn. At the core of his argument is one of human right values. The Globe and Mail’s Doug Saunders, as his many columns have shown, no longer supports any form of human rights. Hence his virulent name-calling of Steyn. For Saunders, if he would witness some Muslim immigrant gang beating up on a Jewish boy, he would root for the sadistic gang. Sauders cares not one wit about terrified Jews leaving Europe. Sex attacks against women? Saunders cheers on the sex attackers. There are the values that this liberal writer brings to the table.
    Jonathan Kay is a different case. He was a conservative writer, but willingly left the conservative camp for greener pastures (i.e., a more secure job since the National Post will be folding). So at one time he actually supported democratic rights. But consciously leaving conservatism, he has to now support the jackboots of the world, the violent criminals and terrorists who attack innocents. This moral view must be new to Mr. Kay.
    Whereas Doug Saunders has never known human decency, Jonathan Kay at one time experienced this. Mark Steyn brought human decency to the debate. That is why his side won. — David Murrell , dmurrell@unb.ca

  10. I think the left looks very shabby on this issue — including Shama and Arbour. They will not gain respect by continuing to defend the indefensible or failing to acknowledge facts. Saunders has betrayed any sense of decency. His writings these days are totally out of touch.

  12. And Cologne is small potatoes compared to Rotherham. And Rotherham was not an isolated episode. There were many other grooming/mass sexual assault rings in England perpetrated by the usual suspects. I doubt Arbour and Shama have even heard of those.

Scarf-wearing sissies with the same contrived voices as the girls: a cross between R2D2 and a ruptured seagull – with a rising pitch at the end of every sentence that makes it sound like a question.
    As for Kay, he’s a smart fellow, but like David Frum, he’s a snob who reflexively sniffs down his snout at ordinary folks who have ordinary concerns. He has more in common with Arbour…he fancies himself a member of that 30,000 feet Elite that Steyn took to task.

And we can add “hypocritical” when we see the walls and gates going up around Rosedale and the Annex to keep the rabble out. And Jamie is also right; there’s no snobbery quite as egregious as self-satisfied leftists.

    Had any white man tried to stop those non-white refugees from attacking those women, he would have been accused of racism and the media would have destroyed his reputation, the police would have probably thrown him in jail.

  23. Linda, the Left defends the indefensible because it is the very foundation of their ideology. Its all built lie upon lie – and fundamentally based on anti – conservative ideas and ideals.
    To actually acknowledge that they are wrong, have been wrong and will be wrong would be the cracking of the edifice. Which would ultimately lead to a loss of power.

Periodically someone, normally a person who considers themself an open-minded individual, will say to me; “but you are a Conservative” or alternatively they say; “that’s just a Conservative thing”. When I ask for clarification the person either becomes silent or repeat “you are a conservative” and walk away.
    I guess being a conservative in thinking means you are not entitled to an opinion. At least to a periodically commenting person.
    Why have i opened this Facebook comment as above? The reason is covered in the following article. The Munck Debates were about Western Values. My understanding when the audience was polled after the debate more of the audience accepted the arguments presented by the male presenters as changing their thinking on the Subject than people who believed the opposite side provided a stronger side. My understanding of debates this is the normal gauge of success and defines the “winning” team.
    The article by Mark Steyn is a general refuting of a series of anti- Steyn rants by the usual suspects.

  30. While I was a grad student at UBC, I attended services at a certain church. It turned out that the congregation was almost entirely hard-core socialists (Vancouver’s not called the Left Coast for nothing!) and I was, perhaps, the lone conservative.
    I found that I was often the butt of jokes and subject to derisive comments, almost as if having right-wing political and social views was to be treated as some sort of deficiency.
    The left simply refuses to accept that there are opinions that don’t match its vision of the world.

  33. Very true. The left has a very inflated view of themselves, but a closer look will reveal the strains of sheer nastiness that drive them. Someone recently posted a comment somewhere observing that the left are in fact fascist ideologues who live in a world where narrative trumps facts. The recent Canadian election provides ample evidence for that.

  35. That describes the post-secondary educational system nowadays, particularly now that it’s oriented towards the student as “customer”.
    While I was teaching at a certain institution, it was bad enough that I had students who were lazy or had no talent for what they were studying. Many of them were fresh out of high school and were clearly ill-prepared. I then had to worry about “customer satisfaction”, “feedback”, and “meeting or exceeding needs and expectations”, largely because my department’s reputation–and extra government funding–depended on the “outcomes”.
    Much of that nonsense came out of people who studied educational theory or psychology. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if those who invented that rubbish were leftists.

  38. Every time I’ve dealt with leftist/socialists, they inevitably sing the praises of their political ideology. Whenever I bring up historical incidents, such as the purges in the Stalinist Soviet Union or the often brutal suppression of legitimate dissent by communist governments, they easily brush all those aside, almost laughing them off.
    Then again, Uncle Joe himself apparently considered the death of one man a tragedy but the death of a million a statistic.
    Nothing, not even clear and verifiable historical evidence, will dissuade them.

  41. currently the chuch I did attend until 3 months ago, I couldn’t get agreement that in general, isn’t it better for everyone to NOT have stuff happen that ‘christians’ are to forgive? they seemed stuck on the perpetual forgive forgive forgive merry-go-round.
    not for me. my response which got a chuckle at least was to be willing to forgive an aggressor for forcing me to resort to nasty measures in response to an attack. that way subsequent attacks are dissuaded and best for everyone all round.
    nah, they insisted on being martyrs for Jesus.

  42. Conservatives are the greatest complainers in the world. But they never do anything to rectify the situation. Like I said before, conservatives don’t “storm city hall”, they don’t fight with cops, they don’t kill cops, they don’t intimidate non-conservatives at polling booths. But conservatives are very proud that they work and pay their taxes…providing the money for cops and “city hall” to take away their liberties. The Left storms city hall, they fight with cops, they kill cops, they cheat at the polling booths, have their lackeys stand around to intimidate voters and they don’t work collecting the welfare conservatives provide them through your taxes. I have more respect for the Left, because they put their money where their mouth is. Think of Hollywood…are there any well-known conservative actors? Yet, I bet for all those out there who own a business, you don’t discriminate against Leftists and hire them anyway. Until you start thinking and acting more ruthlessly than the Left you will lose….more importantly–your kids will become part of the Left–because they’ll eventually see that their parents’ were not strong enough to truly fight for their beliefs.

    I recall a conversation I had with a deputy minister in the AB gov’t a few years ago. I was trying to make a point over an issue when he looked at me and said, “if you could amass all the voters that thought like you into one riding you could not influence the outcome of one seat let alone an election.” So pheque off in other words.
    That is what we on the ‘right’ are up against.
